Planetside 2 Story Part 4: The End is Near

Chapter 1: Our World Destroyed
It’s been two months since the Magrider Instinant occurred, and clean up efforts continue to this day. Green haze still rises from the radioactively soaked ground, and specially designed ANT units wander the barren wasteland collecting the radioactive material and processing it into a useable substance which we use for power. Sure we have this new system to try and clean this mess up, but it is not very efficient as we only got a few feet cleaned in a month. That’s not even the half of it cause apparently the reduction was caused some of the Vanu Alien soldiers to mutate and rise back from the dead as these creepy, supernatural monsters. Like, aliens are supernatural in their own way to begin with, one some of the things I’ve seen… I’d rather not even begin to try and explain them. Regardless, we still cannot go outside without our special armor as radioactive scans still shows enough to kill us within minutes of unprotected exposure, and I’d rather not see one of us get turned into one of… them. Because of this, the engineers even had to design a new shielding system for our vehicles to protect the crew. We do still patrol the Warpgate area, but we can’t stay out there for long.
I still can’t believe that the vanu would do this, like it’s their planet too! But they still set a nuke off just to stop us. Their prob going across the planet, building up their own cities and enslaving all the NR they can’t persuade. We have to stop them, but there's too much in our way. As I was mid thought, Mich came running in my office.
“Jet, one of the ANT units found something!” Mich lad a look of urgency on her face.
“Well, what is it?” I asked.
“It’s better if you see for yourself, but one of Vanu’s human soldiers survived the nuke and the radiation! He’s pretty messed up and he’s locked inside the ANT’s radiation shield, but I thought you would be interested.” Mich replied. I could feel the shock spreading across my face.
“Of course I am! Quickly, show me!” I said jumping outta my seat. And as I got near the ANT, I could not believe my eyes.

Chapter 2: The Superhuman
As I walked up towards the ANT unit, what I could see was beyond compensation. The window on the rear door of the ANT was cleared out so we could see inside. I saw the vanu soldier, his purple armor stained and rusted with  green radioactivity. Half his helmet was broken off and underneath even his skin looked green, peeling off from weeks of decay. I could not believe he was even alive, his basic armor suit must of acted like a life support system keeping him barely alive. The soldier himself looked sick as hell, breathing shallow and heavy, barely able to lift his arms.
“Can he even talk?” I asked the ANT driver.
“Barely sir, radiation poison had got him pretty bad. I don’t think he’ll be around much longer. If you wanna try to get any info out of him, do it fast.” The driver replied. I looked the Vanu soldier straight in his exposed eye, which was hard because it was dark green and bleeding.
“Can you talk?” I asked the soldier, speaking slowly and clearly. He managed to nod slowly, and he tried talking.
   “Nuke…. destroy… NR… doomed…” The soldier mumbled. I could barely understand him.
“What do you mean?” I asked with a bit more force in my words.
   “Vanu… attack… Warpgate… destroyed…” The soldier mumbled a reply.
“Sir… he’s losing his vitals… what do we do?” The driver asked. I sighed, looked at the vents in the ANT.
“Just shot the guy, in the head. Let him at least have a quick death. He deserves that much after surviving out there for so long. The driver drew his sidearm, and I turned to report what I got too Mich. Right before I could start walking, a loud gunshot echoed through the Warpgate and the ANT drove off. I continued towards the command building.

Chapter 3: Another “Sunstrider” Idea
After telling Mich what I heard from the Vanu soldier, she started pacing around the room, troubled. I shared her frustration. We were stuck surrounded by about a mile of radioactive soil and a slow clean up process. At this rate, it would be months before we could even step outside for longer than an hour, and now the Vanu are gonna apparently attack when we are least defended.
“Any bright ideas?” Mich asked. For once in the entire war, I was stumped. I did not know what to do about this… but then I started to grow an idea.
“Mich, how many resources do we have left in the construction system?” I asked. Mich took a few minutes to think.
“About, one hundred thousand units.” Mich replied. I smile grew on my face.
“Load up five ANT units and get a full crew for each of them.” I said
“What crazy idea do you have now?” Mich raised a eyebrow.
“You’ll see…” I replied running out of the command building, Mich followed and started relaying my orders.
In about an hour, our convoy of ANT’s were fully loaded and ready to roll. I looked back one final time, everyone in their pretive armor and the ANT’s shielding was primed. I gave the drivers the green light and we started rolling out. As we left the Warpgate shield, we started sinking in the weak ground but the ANT’s four wheel drive system saved us from getting stuck. We cointued in errey silence, light green haze still rising. I could feel the tension in the convoy, everyone on high alert not knowing what is out there. I also had a vulcan chain gun mounted on each ANT just in case. We heard growling from behind the haze and all the guns turned to the left in unison, everyone froze… waiting.
“There's something out there…” The radio cracked.
“All gunners, swap to thermal imaging, find it.” I replied. Mich, who was gunning the ANT I was in, flicked a switch on the control panel. She slowly scanned the area before finally freezing, pointing to the northwest.
“I have something to the northwest, it's kinda large… and it’s moving fast… oh wait…” Mich got cut off my a purple harasser blasting past our convoy. Soon after two more made their presence known.
“Everyone, brake the convoy, keep moving! Don’t let them catch you sitting still! Take them out!” I shouted as the convoy scattered. They caught us off guard, harrazzers are faster than us, but we have more armor than them. And on top of the reduced visibility due to the haze, this is gonna be tough.

Chapter 4: Getting Harassed
The first pass of the Vanu battle buggys was just the welcome call, as now they were really picking up. Luckily for us, the environmental shield also doubles as a damage protection, absorbing shots with relative ease. The vulcan guns were doing the best they could, but without the support of being on a tank or even harasser of our own it was difficult. One of the ANT units was having trouble, dealing with two at once, but one was damaged. I pointed out the damaged one too Mich and she opened fire on it, causing it to burn up and shortly after it blew up in pieces, leaving a burning wreck before disappearing like all nitinte vehicles. One down two to go. Bur right as the first harasser got knocked out, one of our ANT units got demobilized, having the two left tires blown clean off. We were in bad shape, and need reinforcements.
“Command this is Sunstrider, we are being attacked by enemy harasser units, we need reinforcements!” I shouted into the radio.
“Sunstrider this is Black, I got ya covered. Reinforcements coming at ya.” Black replied and before long I could see a shadow of a hulking beast in the haze and I hope he did not just do what I thought he did. But just as I was hoping, the MEC unit came storming out of the haze wall and engaging the harassers. I took a second look and noticed Black in the cockpit, having just the time of his life… using MY MEC! It did not take long for the rest of the Vanu harassers to be taken out. As as the battle died down I got out of the ANT and walked straight over to the MEC.
“Ok, I'll my MEC back now.” I told Black, he gave me a look from the cockpit.
“Aww come on!” Black tried, I was not having it.
“Get out of the MEC and take my place in the third ANT with Mich, and help get the the fourth one fixed.” I ordered. Black sighed and hopped out. I took my throne in the pilot seat and the MEC powered up.
“Voice command ready” The MEC system roared to life.
“Voice command set, control layout legion, Commander Jet Sunstrider of the New republic on board.” I replied, setting everything up.
“Copy that. Commaber Jet Sunstrider voice registration successful. Welcome back polit, we are better as a team.” The MEC replied… I kinda thought about giving him a name, but nows not the time.
“You can say that again. Alright, swap to thermal imaging an set primary power to defence systems. We gotta protect these ANT units until they reach their deploy zone. Inserting coordinates now.” I finished plugging in the coordinates, right in the center of the radiation and I could almost feel the MEC priming all critical systems, like we were one machine. It has been too long since being able to use the MEC, and it feels good to be back in the pilot seat.
Luckily, we managed to get through the rest of the radioactive swap win no more interference from Vanu forces and thermals are clear. And within the hour, we arrived at the location for the ANT units to deploy. I singled the convoy to stop and turned to face them.
“Alright, spread out here. Square formation and get deployed and get ready the modified silos for harvesting.” I boomed over the mic of the MEC and everyone got to work. Hopefully we can get a cleaning and filtering outpost set up before sundown. And if my plan and the engineers modifications all go smoothly, we should have this radiation cleaned up within a few weeks.

Chapter 5: Operation Clean Up
Just as the sun was going down, we had everything set up. Two solis connected to a power converter to clean and filter the radiation and use it to power the other structures. While the ANT units still have to do most of the collection, the silos also have pumps that can gather the stuff from the immediate area. And of course we have general defence structures like turrets and shielded walls if and when the Vanu find us here. If all goes well, we could deploy more filtering outposts like this and clean up more of the aera faster, but I’d rather give it a few days and make sure it actually works before we build more.
“Alright, everything in place?” I asked the engineering team in charge of the construction.
“Yes sir, just need the green light.” One of them replied. I gave them a nod and they went to the solis, ready to activate them.
“Ok, hit it.” I said. The engineers activated the silo pumps and we waited in silence, watching the meter on the side fill up ever slowly. Suddenly the sounds of the power generator starting up echoed through the area, followed by cheering. The plan was working, and before long the turrets and shield walls came to life. Meaning the power converter was also working, turning the radiation into usable power.
“Well Jet, you did it again.” Mich walked up beside the MEC. She was right, no matter what the risks and how crazy the plan maybe, I managed to push us through and get the job done. Just as we were getting confey, the MEC thermal imaging picked something up.
“Hostile contacts spotted, possible heavy armor inbound” The MEC warned. Everyone started scrambling to set up any defences we can. Topping off generators, activating shield walls, and manning turrets, even the vancun cannons on the ANT units were primed. I double cheeked the MEC’s critical systems and loaded the chaingun, ready for action. We all stoop in silence, ready for whatever the Vanu are gonna throw at us.
“Stay strong, soldiers! Never let your guard down!” I shouted to the defenders as we waited. Then, all hell broke lose. Magriders, harazzers, sundries, lightnings, and even infantry bursted from the haze. Our defences opened up, blasting the enemy forces. Turrets never let up, and I dodged and weaved through the Vanu’s tanks, shooting whatever I can I hit. I picked up a harasser with the MEC’s huge powerful arm and threw it away where it blew up a few meters out. I even stepped on a lighting, where it left a massive dent in the front of it. I kicked it away and it blew up.
“We're gonna need some backup!” Black shouted over comms from inside a deployed turret. He was right, we were outnumbered here. I pressed a button inside the cockpit that automatically sent out a reinforcements request to the Warpgate. Within minutes, a squad prowlers and rave fighters joined the battle and before long we had a full scale skirmish on our hands.

Chapter 6: Defence!
The first part of the fight was more so figuring out how many Vanu are in the area, and the other part was making sure they don’t get near the solis and generator powering the outpost. Apparently the Rave fighters saw that Vanu galaxies as well as Scythe units are inbound, probably planning a gal drop to overrun outpost. I ran through the enemy lines, the MEC absorbing shots like they were rubber bullets, and watched as the Vanu air squad bore down on us. I stood there in shock, watching as the Rave fighters went to intercept, but their is no way they’d be able to handle all… that! But then I went back into reality as tried to think of something to stop them.
“Recommended action, Flight Core ability. High effective rating for anti aircraft duty.” The MEC boomed.
“What the hell’s a flight core?” I asked, confused.
“Flight core: activates VTOL jet engines that allows for hovering, also activates two shoulder rocket pods that allows for lock of on air and ground targets.” The MEC replied.
“Why didn't you tell me about this before? Like BEFORE the nuclear magrider went off?” I asked.
“No other opportunity showed up, and core function was offline at that time.” The MEC replied.
“Ok fine whatever, how do I activate this flight core?” I asked, pressing buttons at random. Apparently I got it because from out of nowhere, the MEC jumped in the air and started floating. I could see the two rocket pods flip out from the MEC's shoulders. I pressed the fire button on the drive controls, and the rocket pods opened up like fireworks, blasting a few dozen missiles at the Vanu air squad. Scythes and even a couple of Galaxies went down in a matter of seconds, causing the rest of them to scatter. The MEC landed and the rocket pods retracted.
“Flight core offline and recharging, multiple hostile contacts down.” The MEC boomed. I almost died of shock because of how flipping awesome that was. Regardless, the fight was not finished. We still had a handful of aircraft and a ton of ground forces to deal with still, but at least the Rave fighters should have an easier time now. I turned around to get back to focusing on the ground forces, and the output was almost completely surrounded. I charged in and flipped over a magrider, and blasted it to bits with the chaingun.
“Black, how we doing?!” I asked over the radio.
“Well sir, we are almost surrounded by infantry at the generators and one of the ANT units are almost destroyed, but the prowler backup has dispersed most of the Vanu armor.” Black replied. At least the backup was helping, but out of nowhere a huge shadow loomed over the outpost as two Vanu galaxy dropships made it through and before I knew it, it was raining purple people. I managed to pick off a couple mid air with the chaingun but most of them landed in and around the outpost. I ended up putting the MEC on guard mode.
“Alright buddy, activate guard mode and focus on the vanu tanks and aircraft.” I said disembarking. The MEC clanked off and I moved into the outpost, unholstering and readying my NS-15M2 LMG made by Nanite Systems, dating all the way back to the days of the Terran Republic, and their weapons are still highly popular today.  I ran into the base and found a squad of Vanu soldiers getting close to a power generator. I opened fire and knocked down one of them before they noticed my existence and scattred. A friendly Light Assault soldier appeared on the roof to my left and got a couple of them before flying off somewhere else. I took a blast of plasma to my arm and my armor flickered but for the most part, I was alright. I charged out and gunned one, two, three soldiers down before emptying my first mag. I dived into a infinity tower and tried to reload as fast as I could. I locked the mag in just in time for a Vanu MAX unit to walk into the tower with me. I rolled to the left and emptied my mag into its back, but I think I just pissed him off. He turned around and whacked me in the side with one of his arms, sending me flying out of the tower and I landed with a harsh THUD. I wend for my sidearm, a revolver, and blasted the MAX in the face. I blew the front of his helmet off before the chamber ran dry. Then the MAX dropped one of his guns and pick me up by the neck, ready to snap it. I tried punching and kicking but it was no use against his armor. I felt his grip getting tighter on my neck when a Vanu commander looking dude appeared behind him.
“Wait! Don’t you see the markings on his shoulder pads? This guy’s a commander! Let’s take him in as a prisoner, get some info outta him and then we have ourselves a bargaining tool.” I did not like the way he called me a bargaining tool. The guy in the MAX sighed, and threw me to the ground.
“Your lucky, jackass. I would of enjoyed killing you slowly…” The MAX guy made a wicked smile, and punched me right in the face, knocking me flat cold. Cause really, it was a MAX punch after all.

Chapter 7: The Prisoner
I woke up in a dark room lit up by a small, dim light hanging on the ceiling. Getting up, I looked around and noticed I was in some prison like cell, with a small dirty mattress in the corner and a rusty toilet across from the mattress. Also, the Vanu took my armor, leaving only my under Armour bodysuit. Great, the Vanu managed to capture me and  now they are gonna use me to get something, maybe control over the NR’s resources, the MEC, and the output. Or they will use me to get whatever info they can and kill me off, and because the Wapgate's spawn tube power was caught off after the nuke went off... if I die, I die for good. That is why we have lost so many in the past, because the re birthing technology was damaged in the explosion. Maybe my friends will notice what happened, or maybe the MEC will find out that I got taken. But for now, I gotta find out a plan to stay alive and not give up any information until I find a way to escape. Just as I was mid thought, a Vanu soldier came up to my cell door.
“Jesus, you're finally awake. About time.” The Soldier growled.
“Ah, what can I say, every soldier needs his beauty sleep.” I laughed, the Vanu soldier was not impressed.
“Well, I hope you all nice and rested, because in a few minutes you're gonna open your mind up and tell us all about your little operation going on.” The soldier said, I grinned again.
“Open up about what, my feelings?” I chuckled. The soldier grunted right as a very important looking dude in rugged looking armor walked in the room. This guy looked like he has seen the full face of war, with an eyepatch on his left eye and a deep scar running diagonally across his face. The cell door creaked open and I stood up to be face to face with the guy.
“Is this the guy?” The import guy boomed.
“Yesh, it’s him”. The soldier replied. Mr. Sunshine turned to face me again, his breath smelled like old socks and his good eye was bloodshot.
“My, my, you look just peachy today. So, sunshine, how long you fought in this war, eh?” I asked sarcastically.
“I have served with the Vanu for over fifty years, and I was appointed Chairman of the army just last year.” The guy replied, remaining calm.
“Oh so you're a veteran, eh? I bet you’ve seen the good the bad and the ugly. By ugly, I mean when you look in the mirror every morning.” I laughed again, trying to remain as cool as I could myself.
“Ain't you a funny one, I can respect a solider that knows how to remain calm under pressure, but regardless, fun time’s over. You are now gonna tell me some answers.” The Vanu commander replied.
“Answers to what, life? Cause it sure aint wearing that nasty purple spandex all day. But if you want, a better answer would be forty two.” But this time, the Vanu commander punched me in the face, spun me around and put electric handcuffs on me.
“We can do this the easy way, or the hard way buddy. Take this Republic trash down to the integration room, I shall question him myself.” The vanu commander said, and before you knew it, two soldiers came in and dragged me out. It took a while but we finally got to the room. It was a large, dimly light room what a small table in the center. Oh, a classic. I was thrown and locked into a rusty metal chair and forced to wait.
“So, your commander like taking his sweet ass time, huh?” I said to noone in particular.
“Shut up, prisoner.” One of the soldiers said. Finally, after about half an hour, the door creaked open and the Vanu commander walked in. He started to pace around the room, but finally stopped in the front of the table, and started me in the eye.
“So, the NR has been quite busy in the recent mounts.” He said.
“Yeah, all because one of your stupid tank drives decided it would be fun to hit the big red button labeled DO NOT PRESS.” I spat, the commander just sighed.
“Do you know why we did it?” The Vanu commander asked.
“Cause your assholes?” I replied without hesitation.
“No, to teach pests like you a lesson!” He snapped.
“A lesson in what? Nuclear explosion survival 101?” I snapped back, now the commander guy slapped me in the face. I looked back at him and smiled.
“Agh, that kinda tickled, try harder next time” I winked, but before he could full on punch me a shock wave rocked the whole base...outpost... whatever this was.
“What the hell was that?” The vanu commander yelled.
“Scanners show the NR forces are advancing on us, sir! They are following our retreating forces here!” One of the soldiers shouted.
“AGH! Take this rat back to his cell and double the prison guard! Rally everything we have and repel the attackers!” The commander guy shouted and everyone started running like crazy. Among the confusion, I was grabbed by another two Vanu soldiers and was once more dragged around the place. So I guess my friends did notice I was gone, either that or it's just they just so happen to be on the offensive now.

Chapter 8: Unplaned Evac
When we got to the cell, the took the cuffs of and booted me back into the cell, locking it tight. The rest of the Vanu soldiers were running all over the place getting weapons, armor and equipment ready. Then a vanu MAX unit came clunking in followed by a medic and engineer.
“Oh, you must be my fierce protectors.” I said sarcastically. The MAX unit just grunted at me and put on his helmet. The Medic leaned against the wall and started cleaning his medical gun while the engineer planted a prox mine at the door.  Suddenly I heard shouting from down the hallway.
“They made it in! I repeat, Republic forces have made it into the fli- AGH!” The cell guards jumped and got their weapons ready.
“Clear the hallway and clean out these rooms, Black, Mich clear the cell room, me and Axx will clear the right!” I heard shouting from the hallway. I guess they managed to enter the facility. I bet they don’t even know I’m here.
“Flash bang out!” I heard Black’s voice shout as I saw the flashbang roll into the room. I closed my eyes as the BANG rang out in the room. The Vanu soldiers got blinded and I opened my eyes just in time to see Mich and Black charge in. Black took out the Vanu medic with a shotgun blast as Mich gunned down the engineer with with a SMG. The MAX recovered and sttared at Mich and Black.
“Well, that’s not good.” Mich said as she looked in the cell at me, I guess she did not recognize me in the heat of the moment. “Watch your fire in here Black, they got one of us in that cell” She added as they both sidestepped the MAX in opposite directions. The MAX opened fire and I had to duck to avoid getting my head shot off. Black took out a anti vehicle grenade, pulled the pin and slapped the MAX in the back with it. The grenade blew up and ripped the MAX’s back armor off. Mich drew her power kinfe, activated it and dug the chainsaw knife thing deep into the MAX’s exposed backside. The MAX just yelled in pain spun around and sent Mich flying across the room. Black blasted his entire shungun chamber into the MAX’s exposed area. The MAX fell forward face first and landed with a hard THUMP on the ground, dead. Then Black ran to the cell and it took him a bit to realize who I was.
“Wait, Jet? How the hell did you end up in here?” Black asked as Mich ran up.
“Yeah will, it’s a long story. Can we please just get the hell outta here?” I asked as Mich cut the lock off with her power kinfe. I walked out and Mich gave me her side arm, the NS revolver.
“Alright, let’s get finish up here and get the hell outta here.” Mich said as the three of us ran outta the cell room. Re joined up with the other squad and Axx gave me a look.
“Managed to get yourself caught?” Axx asked.
“Yeah yeah, let’s just get outta here!” I replied as Axx’s radio crackled to life.
“Sir, we got the top floor cleared and the control node locked down. We should have this base under our control in a few minutes.” The NR soldier reported.
“Roger that, we also found Sunstrider and me and Black are gonna take him back to the Warpgate. When the base is locked down keep a small squad here and send the rest back to the radiation cleanup outpost.”  Axx replied.
“I’m guessing the outpost survived?” I asked.
“You bet, and we already have another ANT squad waiting at the Warpgate.” Axx replied.
“That’s good, anyway let’s first get outta here. I need a new set of armor.” I laughed as myself, Axx and Black started to make our way outta the base and back towards the Warpgate.

Chapter 9: Mistry Transmission
About an hour later I was fitting into a new set of armor and ready to go again. Not gonna let some time in a Vanu jail slow me down. As walked across the next batch of clean up ANT units, I was thinking we are gonna need more protection.
“Hey, how about we get a few prowlers and sundis here to back our ANU units up in case things go south again? And where’s my MEC at?” I asked.
“Yeah, I’ll get started on getting some backup forces ready.” Axx replied and walked off. Then I heard suspiciously loud footsteps behind me and I turned around to see my MEC.
“Ah, there you are… ugh… well I never got a name… maybe a serial number?” I rubbed my chin.
“Accessing data logs… chassis class Titan. Serial number GB-55-8098-332” The Mec replied.
“Ok, how about I just call ya GB?” I chuckled a bit.
“Filing data. GB-55-8098-332 new callsign: GB. Now in effect.” GB replied. I nodded slowly and embarked. The visual systems activated right as the heavy armor support rolled up.
“Ok guys, you know what to do! Head to the far right quadrant of the radiation field and start setting everything up!” But as everyone rolled out, Mich came running out with apparently important news. She wanted me to head into the Warpgate before setting out. I told Axx to lead the ANT unit out into the relid and disembarked to see what Mich was talking about. She lead me into the comms room and started messing with the tuner. Suddenly I heard a transmission I never thought I’d hear.
“Attention any Auraxis military forces that can hear this. This is Earthbound command. We have found a way to reopen the wormhole, however we are only able to send radio waves though at this time. If anyone can here us, please respond immediately. We may have a way for you on the other side to strengthen the wormhole connection.” Mich gave me an anxious look and the transmission repeated itself. This mean Earth has found a way to make a new wormhole… that means that we can all finally go home… so many years of fighting… I could feel the end is finally near, but first we need to find a way to first get in contact with Earth, and put an end to the fighting here. So many things were going through my mind I could not think straight… we need to act upon this, for the future of Auraxis, and for Earth.
