You can get a decent kit for less than 200. Look for a Prusa i3 on amazon. Its an open source printer which means a lot of different people are selling nearly identical copies of it. Avoid MDF. If you're willing to splurge, get one with a metal frame. Otherwise be gentle tightening down that acrylic. And make sure it IS tight. A rigid frame is key.
So long as you don't have any mechanical problems, like a wobbly frame or really cheap stepper motors, I've found that you can get pretty good prints out of nearly any printer, with the right tweeking
