Redneck Longbow is an M.E.T.A.L type Dating Sim Text Adventure with pictures based on the romance of a friend of mine and their partner.
M.E.T.A.L means Mouth, Eyes, Trunk, Arms and Legs. Basically Talk, Examine, Inventory, Grab and Walk.
I went for an open plan look. Most DSEG's tend to clutter the screen with info.
Things like energy, hunger, toilet needs, hygiene, money, time, achievements and options are viewed in a menu you can look at by clicking your character like a real DSEG.
Oh and progress is achievement based, not from having a certain amount of stats.
I think I'll do Dream Mode. It should be easy. Dream Mode for those that don't know it is when your character is asleep you get to go around doing things and nothing you do has any consequences when you wake up. You know, like a dream.
If I put minigames in it they are going to be real simple. None of this Monopoly stuff or Poker I see people doing.
It's not an RPG so there's no combat, stats or equipment.
It's not really a puzzle game either, it's just for fun so there's nothing too complicated to do to see the scenes.
It's more of a collectathon. You gotta try and find all the scenes. When you've seen one you can look at it through the menu whenever you like.
It's going to have a password based save system. The password is going to be a wall of text but you can cut and paste it into a text file. That way you don't lose progress when you clear your browser history. There's a lot of stuff to do so I suggest you use it because you don't want to start again.
There'll be options for content preferences too so if there's something you don't like you can switch it off. The achievements are sorted out into sets of content so you know how much you've done compared to other people without having to allow stuff you don't like.
It's a dating game so there's only a few places you can go like the Movie Theater, Restaurant, Amusement Park, regular Park, etc. If you want more I'm taking requests but you can't just name them you have to explain them a little like what you would do there.
Dying and getting arrested are possible but they are Game Overs. I don't want to go into THAT much detail. It's not a superhero comic thing.
At the moment there's only the two characters romancing. I might add their friends but they wont be playable. Let's not forget what we came here for 8P
The house itself has a Hallway, Dining Room, Kitchen, Bedroom and Bathroom and then there's the Garden. All have things you can do there even if it's just getting clean or getting fed.
You can text your friends on the phone, take pictures and use some online things like shopping for specific things but I'm not going too deep into the internet thing and social networks babble.
There will be a game machine and TV but it's not going to have too much detail about the shows or games. It's the romance that's important.
You can get married but at the moment there's no end game so it doesn't change anything. At the moment the game time is only meant to be over a few days. I can make it so that they are together forever but then I need more daily stuff like work and shopping for food and I don't really wanna do that.
No change of clothes at the moment but I don't see why not. The only problem is that I'd have to change every time they appeared so I think I might only do it for special events.
The text is going to be Courier New because I can tell exactly how many letters you can fit on a line that way.
At the moment I'm just using a normal page system. If someone could tell me how to work the automatic loading thing that would be great.

. Something similar planned for other locations. Images from top to bottom: Lounge, Kitchen, Bathroom and 2 Bedrooms, one will be the master bedroom and the other the guest bedroom but which is up to the player. Characters will now be standing above the dialogue box too so you don't miss any of the sexy action. Backdrop now pans left to right and up and down depending on where characters are on screen.

It certainly looks more spacious but that sounds like a lot of stuff for a character menu. You could easily lose track of stuff.
Are you going to do the shadow effects for all the sprites? That seems like a mammoth task.
The dialogue box looks nice and big compared to the small writing so you're not going to have any trouble cutting it to make room.
One big question I have is "Is Max required to wear clothes in this universe?" because I am wearing clothes here.
The Beach is another good location for romance. Lot's of things to do there: Volley Ball, Picnic, Sunbathing, Paddling In The Sea, Rock Pool Fishing, Seashell Collecting, etc.
Are you going to change the character's head size? Because I look like a child at this height. And on that topic are there any cheat codes like Big Head Mode or Talk Like A Pirate?
I'd love it to have a longer time period. A few days isn't nearly long enough.
Content based achievements is a good idea considering what Max wants in the game.
Only 2 characters is good. You don't want the mess Monsterville became. But I'd still like our friends to cameo. If only they just stand around and don't say much.

CAH is 7 or more options on 7 or more places and that's 7^7 which is 823,534. 1,608.5 times the number of outcomes in tic-tac-toe, considering it's turn by turn instead of reducing spaces. TTT screws up with random choices, CAH actually works that way.
