Which is why Mr. Lee at 17 is a hustler for hire. It's the late 80s, early 90s, and he's rocking the latest permed mullet w/ponytail look. You pay for what you agreed, and only do what you've paid for the privilege of doing. Otherwise, he will cut your throat without thinking twice. That sort of ruthlessness will catch attention given time...
Mr Lee at 25 is the result of that attention. A 'problem solver' for the biggest mob boss in the city, and rising quickly through the ranks due to his efficacy and ruthlessness. Within another five years, he'll have have killed his boss and struck out on his own. Within 10, he'll be the kimono-wearing, jockboy-blackmailing mob boss we all know and love.
