This took 6 days of work, made from zero, so far the most ambitious figure we ever did., i'll print this and make a figure eventually, i'll also release the model for free eventually too.

I wish could post this on DA ..but you know...

That's awesome.

Also, are the small indents on the gravestone sculpted,or is it bump mapping?

the thruth is i'm really new on all this 3d thing,  so basically don't know what is bump maping, but i think have to do with using a texture that the render engine will interpret as a 3d object.. right?

Correct, it uses a texture called a "normal map" to convey detail in order to save memory and shorten render time, it's mostly used in games.

afaik bump mapping is more used for really tiny details, normal maps are used for the vast majority of the time. It basically manipulates how light affects the surface to make the illusion of the model having more polygons.

There's some pretty sweet texturing tools available nowadays too that make use of normal maps, that can like put dirt in all the cravices or scratches on the corners of the model or corners in the normal map.

Since you're making models for 3D printing, you probably don't need to worry about these texture tricks. They would likely be ignored by the printer.

But if you're wondering.
Bump maps use a texture to affect light and shadow as if there was additional geometry.
Normal maps use a texture to create the illusion of depth using a parallax effect, again making it look like there's additional geometry.
In both cases, the actual surface is still flat.
