On April 14, 1927, the Swedish manufacturing firm AB Volvo (Volvo Group) introduced its first automobile, the ÖV 4 (Öppen Vagn 4 cylindrar). The introduction of the ÖV 4 is cited by the Volvo Group as the beginning of the Volvo car manufacturer. Since then, Volvo has gone on to be a major player in automobile manufacturing with product lines covering trucks, cars, and buses among other ventures. Though Volvo Cars is no longer a component of AB Volvo having been sold to Ford Motor Company in 1999 and now owned by Geely of China, AB Volvo still retains as subsidiaries Mack Trucks, Renault Trucks, UD Trucks (formerly Nissan Diesel), Volvo Buses, Volvo Trucks, and Volvo Construction Equipment among others.
