The SKS was a semi-automatic rifle designed by Soviet weapons designer Sergei Simonov. Though it arrived a little too late for World War II, the rifle would go on to see combat in most wars since then including in Vietnam, Afghanistan (both with and against the Soviets and later against the Americans), Iraq, and even the current Syrian civil war.
