Devi & Koudelka and all mentioned characters (c) Gothbunnyboy & Ketzio11

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been an entire week since the fateful meeting between Devi and Bea, the perpetually relaxed badger mechanic. Each afternoon after school, Devi had awkwardly walked to her shop (the garage of her uncle's home to be specific) to offer assistance. Ultimately, they would cuddle up and watch movies or talk aimlessly. Bea was a particularly good listener and had the talent to listen to Devi bitch, complain, or tell pointless stories about her hometown for what could be hours.
Yet, somehow, nothing sexual had happened between them.
Every day after hanging out for a few hours, Devi would be dropped off at home to have dinner with her dads, then do her homework, then talk to her ex, Nova, then maybe hang out with Aria, her moronic dog neighbor and get to bed after an hour of reading. The ritual of nightly reading was something she had since she first learned to read independant of her dads.
Now that it was Friday, she stood in her bedroom and contemplated if that routine would break.
"You hang out with so many people every day, Dev," she said to her reflection while getting ready that Friday. "Why are you so lonely? Stop it, you pathetic creature." She probably shouldn't have spent so much of her affection on Bea, considering how non-chalant towards a relationship the badger seemed to be. Devi, however, was being a bit impatient with her analysis as she hastily twirled around to get a better view of her back.
She took extra time to goth-out and admire her (lack of) figure in her closet mirror. It was cool that some girls liked the "loli-goth" look, but it was annoying that most sane girls just mistook her for an edgy 12 year old boy.
She flashed her attention to her drawer and searched for the longest pair of socks but -- horror of horrors -- she probably left all of her sexy goth ones at her ex's house. Surely Nova must've been... doing whatever to them at night. The thought of the otter cuddling with just long striped socks that used to belong to some dumb bunny girl made said dumb bunny girl giggle to herself. Then again, Nova was a crass creature -- she probably didn't just snuggle with them. Then again, again... Devi needed to stop thinking about Nova so much.
She began to remind herself of her other potential crushes as she grabbed the second longest pair of socks available.
"Cute girls... cute girls... uhm... I guess my other option is Aria?" Yeah right, Aria was really cute and kind of, sort-of, not really funny, but her feelings for Aria had boiled into nothing. (And by 'boiled into nothing', that meant it was a product of being very bluntly rejected in a punny way) Sighing, she slipped her socks up her legs.
"There's also Koudelka!" She chuckled out loud. Devi's new school was barren when it came to openly gay girls; which seemed to be the case with this fox as well. Koudelka was everything Devi wasn't: popular, beautiful, and likely very rich, yet still she radiated this secretly gay vibe. It's a shame that Koudelka probably wouldn't realize her true preference until it was way too late, but still, her bitchy meanness and snark really was a turn on, and Devi was kind of more than just crushing on her too. Still. Them being together was extremely unlikely unless Devi had enough luck to win a lottery or get struck by lightning twice (whatever that meant) Plus, it didn't help that she had a 'boyfriend'.
"And lastly there is... huh... I guess that's it." She sighed out loud; thinking about her ex, Nova, again as she slid her jeans slowly up. Nova and her still spent an inordinate amount of time chatting on the phone, but the distance hurt, and knowing that both of them were "seeing" other people also stung. Nova was so scrappy and such a fighter that, as Devi had suspected, she had already toppled a few unclimbable mountains and shared her bed (allegedly) with some super hot candidates. Meanwhile, Devi had... fooled around with a pretty farmland girl during halloween and showed her bra off online to a woman who seemed to lose interest pretty fast.
"Uugh, I need to just get to school and then... I dunno... find somebody to cuddle with." Devi said to herself.
"Who the heck would wanna cuddle with a downeroo like you?" a voice spoke; causing Devi to spin around to see Aria climbing through her window with ease. This happenstance was something Devi wasn't entirely comfortable with despite Aria literally doing this everyday. "Oh heeeey. Your underwear. Looking good, bunny girl!" she flashed a thumbs-up. "10/10, wouldn't fuck though, I'm straight."
"I GET IT!" Devi roared and then looked, semi-astonished, down at her chest with her typical gothy bra clutched at her non-breasts; small ribbons protruding from the sides. "You're not about to make another dumbass joke, are you?" Devi raised a slow cynical eye and looked at the dog.
"Nope." Aria shrugged. "Girl-bodies aren't sexy enough to make a joke about. The Greeks had it right, you know. Though it is pretty hilarious that you stand around and talk to yourself in your underwear. Do you do that a lot? It's really creepy-funny."
"Ugh, someone kill me." Devi groaned and quickly rolled on her shirt. "I got a dumb dogger making fun of me about the way I do things when she's too busy not noticing how she just climbed through my window WITHOUT ASKING ME, LIKE A FUCKING SERIAL KILLER."
"You think I'm a serial killer? But I love corn flakes, I'd never hurt them." Aria proceeded to imidate a rimshot while also gesturing fake drumsticks.
"Fuck you." Devi murmured. "Can you just wait for me to finish changing? For such a straight young woman of God, you sure love to stare at me in my underwear."
"I figured, if I was staring at you, you'd get ready faster." Aria nodded with a condescending smile. "Ms. Takes-20-Years-To-Get-Ready-For-School, come on! We should go early for a change, I don't want to get stuck walking behind those 6th graders again. You can tell me all about whatever you where flexing in your undies about over the walk to school!"
With a roll of her eyes, Devi mused about telling her but weighed against it while getting ready. "I actually get ready for school, you shit." Devi muttered. "You just put on your gym clothes and go to school with those."
"You--"
"Hold that thought, dogger." The rabbit rushed into the living room to fill her thermos with coffee. She would be damned if she forgot it again.
"Coffee stunts your growth!" Aria whispered; following her in the living room.
"Shut up!" Devi hissed. "Why aren't you just waiting in my room like a semi-normal person?"
"Cuz that's boring."
~~
Sadly, without any confession of her crush-turmoil, the walk was rather silent, apart from the one off crack from Aria. (Pop quiz did you hear the one about the sidewalk? It gets around town? How about the time a pervert jumped and showed his dick to a couple of women -- two of them immediately had a stroke while the third didn't touch him yuk yuk yuk.)
School couldn't come and end faster.
~~
Koudelka sunk her head  with resignation into her hands as she listened to the morose tantrum her father was having in the school's office. She thanked whatever lucky stars that the school was not in attendance hours yet, as her back slid against the wall and she felt the rough stucco scritching up her shirt; another thing that would no doubt set off another explosion of rage from her father.
"What regulation permits you to grant permission for my child to go to another student's house?!" His voice was a dull roar that made her head spin.
"Sir, if you--"
"What if this other student's parents where some Sex-Perverts, eh?! Does it feel intelligent to allow such grotesque idiocy that you would endanger my child willingly?!" She could here him collapse his fist against the counter inside and Koudelka gritted her teeth with hate.
"Mr. Pavlov, please, don't you think your being rather hasty in that assumption? We can certainly assure you that--"
"That the very welfare of my child's safety would be okay outside of your walls and fences? Honestly? I would like her to be exempt from this hilarious joke of an assignment, and received no demerits reflecting that." he stomped his foot; causing Koudelka to cringe from outside. "Are you even aware of how inept the justice and education system is in Lavender Hill regarding our children?"
'All they had wanted', Koudelka thought, feeling exhausted and strange, 'was for me to pair up with another kid to work on a project.'
"You're being overdramatic, dad." she wished she could say to him, but she had no idea how horrid a punishment for that would even be.
Instead, she smirked; feeling empty as she hoped this trainwreck would end before people started actually showing up to school.
"Mr. Pavlov, Koudelka is a very bright student and--"
"Don't speak down to me, I will have your job!" Koudelka could just imagine his tail flicking around. It always happened when he pulled rank on people.
"--and it would be best for her to..." the principal tried to continue.
"Be potentially murdered by some child's deranged parents or get raped by some... boy! That's what the kids do, you know, they say they're studying but the only thing they study is each other's bodies, that's why Trouville has the highest rate of teen pregnancy and suicide!"
"Sir, please, that's not appropriate, we are in a school. What if she pairs with a girl, how is that as a compri--"
Koudelka stood; dusting the grass off her pointlessly expensive jeans. She had heard about as much as she could stomach, She lifted her backpack and began to take to the walk; the long path that lead into the spiderweb of halls and buildings.
For a long moment she looked toward the front gate, passed the cafeteria and toward the parking lot and all she could imagine was walking away. She found solace in that but froze dead as the last of her lucky stars either glistened or died: of all people, the biggest crush of her life had, at that moment, entered the gate.
Even the way that strange little goth rabbit looked at the wee hours of a school morning was alluring. Her jeans clung tight to her narrow thighs and her hoodie hid the remainder of her cute and gentle figure. Devi had a silver cylinder clutched between her hands, a thermos by the looks of it, and the idiot dog beast, Aria, walked close beside her.
Koudelka nervously swallowed and walked briskly toward the faculty soda machine that sat directly along the path but far enough to not hear the bellowing fit of her father. She searched the machine vainly, she didn't have money on her, so nothing had any appeal, but so long as she appeared busy. With her back turned toward them, she nervously gnawed her lower lip.
"--So the other salesman says, 'forget about the water, how about more of that hot buttered corn?'" Aria was saying in her joke tone and Koudelka cringed with envy and bitterness but kept her back toward them.
Of all the people to show up early, why did it have to be Devi? And, also, why the fuck did she have to be with Aria?
"You're disgusting, Aria, I hope you know that." Devi croaked in her tiny, monotone rasp.
"You just can't appreciate good blue humor!" Aria snidely responded as they had finally walked close enough.
"Huh, I'm surprised you  two are here so early." Koudelka spun around, trying to take an incontrol voice, anything to cover up the fact that she was shaking. "I wouldn't think you two dorks would ever be here on time."
"Dorks? You can say bitch, I am a female dog," Aria raised her bushy eyebrow while Devi offered a bemused smirk. "But you're not telling a joke, so you're just being a fuckface as always."
"I'm not really in the mood for your guys' catfight right now." Devi said to Aria who scrunched up her nose and sighed in response.
"Oh, and here I thought you were into girl-on-girl action." Aria snickered.
"That's rude, you know, talking as if i'm not standing right here." Koudelka huffed feeling herself growing furious. "I know you guys are in love or some junk but you could at least get a room."
"Yeah, we're the rude ones." Devi rolled her eyes. "You--"
"We're not lovers, asshole!" Aria snapped. "Don't you even!"
"Whatever." Koudelka murmured and felt the strangest flood of relief, any day now Devi and Aria were bound to hook up (she thought), but she was happy it wasn't that morning.
"And even if we were, we'd be better than you and Austin." Aria spoke with a cold intensity that neither Koudelka or Devi recognized. "It's not like he loves you or anything. Who was it that he was finger-banging at that one party? Hmmmmmm."
Koudelka's 'boyfriend', Austin, was a strange subject. The two of them hadn't even kissed and, from what Koudelka understood from her very sheltered and naive way, was that girls chose to be with boys, so perhaps she could adapt eventually. Yet, the subject of even having a boyfriend bothered her, she didn't like him, not romantically and not as a friend; he weirdly reminded her of her dad: all money and talk willing to throw his muscles and name around to win a fight.
She was bested and looked away; feeling a strange sadness. She had cried so much as a little girl that she was lucky that she couldn't cry anymore, but it really felt like she might.
"Just, c'mon Dev, we don't need this blow-up doll." Aria sounded very salty as she dragged the bunny along. "Cunt." she muttered to her side.
"Is that Piper?" Devi glanced past Aria and down the hall into the chasm of school paths. Koudelka looked too just to see the very slim and girlish shrew boy running up the path toward them.
"Great, all the losers are here." Koudelka murmured and caught that Devi was looking at her. She could feel her face flush and she quickly looked back at Piper.
"Hey... Aria..." Piper huffed, catching his breath and ignoring Devi as he usually did. His backpack was comically large compared to his tiny body and even by school pack standards, it looked as though he was going camping.
"Hey." Devi answered first with her blank stare.
"Oh uh... hi, Devilyn." Piper said; completely disregarding the fact that he knew, very well, her name wasn't Devilyn. His tone was so... cruel and bothersome that it sort of irked Koudelka. For a moment, she considered standing up for Devi but... why the fuck would she do that next to Aria?
"Hey, Fagaroo! Just the guy I wanted to see..." Aria snickered as her tone returned to her normal happy-go-lucky default. "My backpack is heavy. Wanna help a lady out?"
"A 'lady', huh..." Koudelka muttered to herself; being completely ignored by the little circle of friends near her. She felt especially alone, considering her own circle of friends were so vapid and... boring.
Devi, however, seemed to have heard Koudelka's little snarky quip and snickered a bit.
"Uh... sure?" Piper hesitantly said; teetering from the weight of his own backpack already. "Just uhh... put it over my shoulder, I guess?"
"Thaaaanks!" Aria practically threw her backpack on top of him. "You're a real go-getter, Fagaroo."
"Heh... she's joking." Piper nervously chuckled.
"No, she's not." Devi quickly responded with a raise of her eyebrow. Koudelka, in the background, giggled to that.
"Youuuuu." Piper started; wagging his finger as he stared at Devi's emotionless face. He suddenly lost any urge to defend himself. "Could I... uh..." he turned to Aria. "Wanna... get to class or something? Or we could have breakfast together?"
"Sure, whatevs." Aria shrugged. "You coming too, Devi?"
"Nah," the bunny responded. "I'm gonna just... pass out on my desk until class starts."
"Okie dokes then, downeroo!"
Aria and Piper left them as the shrew boy stumbled about with the extra weight of Aria's backpack. "See ya later, Devs!" Aria called back before they turned the corner. Devi glanced back toward Koudelka who froze up. How did they end up alone, what would she say and what if her dad's fit was still going on and about to spill out?!
So many bad possibilities.
"You look like crap. Have you been getting much sleep?" Devi said so harshly that it almost sent Koudelka into a blood rage. Instead she felt herself blink twice and look confused.
"I uh... didn't sleep last night." Koudelka didn't know why she said that. She slept from 9pm to 6am. She probably just looked tired because of the mental exhaustion that manifested itself into her father.
"Well, would you like some of my coffee then?" Devi asked holding out her thermos, the greyish light caught the silver shape and caused it to glisten. "It has its own cup." she waggled it around.
Koudelka had never had coffee, she wasn't allowed, but she was also mortified to refuse, to miss out on sharing a surface with Devi's lips and to maybe bond.
"Sure." She said and looked to see that the horribly tall fox figure that was her dad was coming out of the office.
She tensed up; imagining that he would come over and humiliate her, but to her shock, he took the turn and went into the parking lot. The principal, a chubby bear, walked out after him and headed towards Koudelka and Devi.
Meanwhile, Devi had opened the lid and was pouring a milky caramel colored drink into a small lid/cup for her, and all this time she thought coffee was black.
"Huh, I usually have my coffee when it's black." She said; sounding very sure of herself and in no way like an awkward troll. "This must be a different blend."
"Mmmm.... yeah, a different blend." Devi grinned. "It's this exotic thing called hazelnut creamer, anyways, I know you probably get your coffee served out of a solid gold cup or by some magical bean or whatever, but I think you'll find the Devi brand special blend to be just as good."
Koudelka took the cup and sipped; expecting an acrid  bitter drink but, instead, finding that it was sweet and creamy. She took another sip, and then another, greedily slurping it.
Finally the principal reached them.
"So after speaking with your father we-- Oh, hi Devi." He stopped and looked at Devi who was just short enough to be almost entirely invisible to his vision. "OH! Actually, Devi this is perfect! Have you already decided who your partner is going to be for next week's assignment in your science class?"
Devi half shrugged. "Not really, whoever, I guess."
Koudelka took another long sip, loving the taste, but equally enjoying this "Devi blend" she had heard so much about.
"Excellent, then would you mind pairing up with Koudelka then? That is okay with you, right?" He turned and Koudelka nearly choked. Her brain screamed to be snarky, or mean, but she had never even dreamed of talking back to a proper adult. She gulped and nodded.
"That would be alright... if Devi would have me." She slightly bitterly added the rest.
Devi shrugged and sipped directly from the thermos. "Whatever."
The principal offered a smile and a friendly pat on the back that Devi growled at. "Oh thank you so much, Ms. Randelle." he sounded quite relieved while Devi audibly cringed at him using her last name.
He didn't wait for Devi to respond as he quickly rushed back towards his office in an almost hilarious-if-not-sad little jogging motion; leaving the two girls in their awkward silence.
"...thanks, uh, for the coffee." Koudelka broke the silence and handed the thermos lid back to Devi. "You didn't have to say 'yes' to him, by the way. You just made it weird for both of us."
"I didn't say 'yes', I said 'whatever'." Devi shifted her weight as she recapped her thermos and started to waltz away. "But if you don't wanna be my partner, you can tell him yourself. I don't care."
Koudelka's shoulders tensed as she stomped on the tiled floor. "You--!" she stopped. "Uuugh. Sorry for inconveniencing you, I guess." she muttered with disdain and sarcasm as she turned and headed towards her first period class.
~~
By the end of the school day, Devi couldn't seem to find Aria anywhere. She left her sixth period and was almost pushed back into the class by a wave of students eager to return home. The entire school was in such a frenzy for a three day weekend that they looked like a feral wave. Pensively, Devi ducked into a small alley between the science rooms and waited, looking at her phone.
2 new messages.
The first was from Nova which read: "Eyyyyyyy girlie girl, guess what! It's snowing over here, wooooo! Now where am I gonna find a snow white bunny to camouflage in this shit?" It was sent 2 hours ago.
The second was sent 30 minutes ago and it was from Bea: "Sorry Devi, no work today. So Don't bother sniffin' around the shop. me and my roomie are going to get chinese and catch a flick with this cute girl~ ^v^b Wish me luck!"
Both messages made her feel incredibly sad and she did feel like responding to either. Nova's message reminded her, once again, of how much she missed her old home. And Bea's message just made her feel anxious about how... single she was.
Devi opened a new text document directed to her biological dad. She bit her lip and heard a jockish ox belch loudly as he tossed a can unknowingly into the alley where she sat. Devi shuffled a little deeper into the vertical crevasse of buildings as she kept her phone close to her chest as if trying to protect it.
"I'm so lonely and depressed, I miss home." she wrote without thinking when, abruptly, her ear twitched; picking up a rustling sound. She looked up to see a ferret boy, around her age, ducking into the alley way. Oblivious to Devi's presence, he sunk his hand into his pocket and pulled out a  candy bar. He looked it over once with hungry eyes before savagely scarfing it down as if it were some lavish feast and he were starving. After the last morsel was sucked down, he groaned a content sigh and caught her sitting with her legs tucked to her chest. "Why are you sitting in an alley like this, bunny rabbit?" He said in a strange jive voice, it sounded like he was pulling a funky parody or something.
"Because I'm devoid of emotion and wish to avoid the masses?" She spoke in her typical monotone and flat way,
"Shit girl, you're like that goth chick right out of a comic book or somethin', a lotta folks say shit about you being all weird, but I think it's pretty cool that you do whateva you want." He tapped his nose in an odd display and then offered a huge grin. "But sittin in a dank-ass alley way is no place to be."
"You're wise beyond your years candy-gobbling boy." Devi said with a strange mix of earnest sarcasm.
"And you got the vocab'a'lary of a poet, alleyway girl." he kneeled down and, for a few moments, just sat in silence.
 "I'm just... wait." Devi stared at the ground then back at the ferret boy. "People already talk about me? I have a reputation already? Fuck off with that."
"Yeah, there ain't too many gothos around Trouville, so people just get kinda freaked out about that kinda stuff." the ferret spoke with one hand and made very elaborate gestures while his other hand dug around in his pockets. "Maaaaan, you should just be happy you got Aria." He pulled another full candy bar and gnawed a huge bite -- wrapper and all.
"You know I don't think eating plastic is too... smart." Devi's eye twitched when she saw the candy wrapper disappear into his mouth.
"It's a nasty habit I got into when I was real little, I tend to spit out the plastic, but it was to keep me from swallowing the candy too fast."
"...Anyways." Devi coughed awkardly; having nothing to say at his last response. "So wait, why is it good that I know Aria?" She was intrigued, she was aware Aria was well-liked, but she kind of assumed Aria, with all her shit talk, would be the source of Devi's rumors and not some white knight.
"Well, you ain't heard it from me, but word was a few girls were going to fuck wit chu--"
"Huh, so they where going to 'Carrie' me or wha?" Devi closed her phone and looked up intently at him.
"I don't know who the fuck Carrie is, but sure, they had some diabolical shit, girls are crazy 'round here, guys will throw you in a trash can and shit, but girls will play 'nucular' mindgame shit!" the ferret spat out one of the candy wrappers.
"I guess I'll keep that in mind."
"Anyways, Aria really let them have it," the ferret nodded his head. "I saw that shit, you ain't never seen a group of bitches more scared."
Devi found the visualization of Aria literally kicking the crap out of the cheerleader prep type to be alarmingly hilarious and suddenly fought a snicker.
"Well, I mean, thanks for telling me I guess," Devi shrugged with a little smile. "I'm kinda aware some people have it out for me already, but I guess I'll need to thank Aria or something."
"Hmmm, well about that, total real-talk but um..." He paused and tapped his lip. "...She's not like... wit chu is she? It's cool and stuff, but I was thinking about asking her out and junk but I just uhh... didn't want to make you or her mad."
Devi thought about saying something mean, about her friends cock-hungry whoreness, but the visual of Aria standing up for her eclipsed it and she weakly smiled.
"Nope, Aria is only my friend," Devi waved a dismissive hand at the ferret. "So you know... have at her, I guess."
"Can I ask you something else?"
"Sure?" Devi recoiled in disgust when she saw another candy wrapper plop out of his mouth.
"This candy bar thing... just between you and me, right?"
"Yeah, whatever."
"Thanks!" he grinned and, with a meek goodbye, slipped back into the dwindling flood of kids. She watched a few more of them pass and looked at her phone. Aria was pretty good, even if she was kind of trashy, unfunny, stupid, annoying and a dog.
She closed the message she was originally going to send her dad and started a fresh one.
"Can I get a ride? you guys owe me. =3="
Devi closed her phone and stood watching the last of the people abandon the school. The  hallways where almost eerie and devoid of life. Each of her footfalls sounded thunderous and loud.
At the front gate, the rabble had shrunk and the few remainders were going fast. Devi walked to a bench and sat; watching as a lion boy asked a cat girl a few intimate and yet pointless things before they both slipped away on bikes and out of existence for all Devi was concerned.
It had been only a few minutes and she was already alone again, with a lone teacher on patrol: the studious bat who taught PE and remedial studies. He had been eyeballing her for a few minutes but his intent seemed entirely unsexual, it was more the suspicious curious eye, like he might catch her in a vile act, or maybe he was trying to recognize her for a crime. To be fair the only crime between them was how offensive his bowl haircut was, giving him this odd pageboy look.
And, Devi supposed, he felt the same way about her sense of style as well coming from this backwater town.
"Excuse me, miss?" The way he said 'miss', that was it, he had no idea what her gender was. He was trying to figure it out... how humiliating. "Are you expecting your parents soon?"
"Probably." she half-shrugged. "I might end up walking it in a few though, so like... if you're staying to see me out, don't worry about it."
"Are you sure?" he gave her a suspicious once-over, and she could tell he was still concerned with her gender identification.
"Yep. I'm pretty good at not being abducted." she lifted an eyebrow at him. "Don't try me."
"That's not funny or appropriate!" he snarked. "But if you're fine then I'm going to head off. The office will be open for another hour if you need to use a phone.
"Nope, got a cell, thank you though." Devi said sarcastically as she wobbled her cell phone in his direction.
The bat nodded and walked with a slight gate back into the labyrinthine halls of North Trouville Jr. High.
Now that she was truly alone, she flicked open her phone, vainly hoping to see a "we're on our way!" text.
Fucking nothing.
She opened a blank text and began hammering when, suddenly, her ear twitched again from the sound of a shoe cracking a small stick behind her.
"Do you just loiter for fun?" the familiar and cold tone of Koudelka said as she emerged from nearly nowhere. Devi looked around; completely perplexed that maybe she hadn't been entirely aware of her environment. But before she could retort, Koudelka continued. "There's nowhere else to sit so scoot over."
Devi blinked as she was incredibly confused at that statement considering how there was literally a chair across from them, a bench behind them and the front half of the school was entirely abandoned. Oh well? She did the only thing she could think to do: scootch slightly to the side to open more space.
Either way, she didn't mind, Koudelka was hot.
Koudelka sat and a rich bouquet of flowery  expensive fur and hair-wash exploded into Devi's nose. Feeling the warmth of the culpeo sit next to her weirdly made that pit of loneliness sink stories deeper inside her. She loved the idea of holding a warm girl tight and smelling her hair.
"Hey lez, are you texting your girlfriend or something?" Koudelka said in a sarcastic and dry way.
"I wish." Devi answered awkwardly. "Well I mean... I was texting my dad and that would be fucked if he was my girlfriend. With how backwaters this fucking town is, it's probably common though."
Koudelka let out a cute scoff and Devi smiled to land a friendly joke.
"I'm actually pretty fucking single at the moment, not that you care." Devi added taking a wistful tone, it was dumb, setting that bait, and probably pointless too, but she couldn't help it.
"Huh, I didn't, like, think you "types" really dated or something." Koudelka said; now avoiding even looking at Devi. "So now that we are partners for class, I suppose I will be hearing about this sort of thing all the time, or something."
"'Or something' indeed!" Devi quickly said, smiling. If she was right this almost felt like attempted flirting. "Being gay is like 80 % of my personality.... well that and horror movies."
"Oh, uh... horror movies are gross." Koudelka snapped. "I saw parts of that ghost one...."
"The... ghost... one? There are literally 15 gagillion horror movies and about half of them are about ghosts, do you just not like horror or something?" she took a condescending baby tone. "Is it too scary for the widdle culpeo prep-prep?"
"NO! I've read horror novels--" Koudelka stated defensively but Devi felt the need to take a jab. She was boxing with words.
"Wait, you read things other than fashion magazines and gossip blogs?" Devi let out an overdramatic and faux gasp.
"What is blog?" Koudelka asked with apprehension.
Devi was stunned. The idea that Koudelka knew nothing of blogs meant, either blogs had gone so out of style and Devi was now a hipster, or that Koudelka was slightly less vapid then she thought. The latter thought excited her.
"That's so cute" Devi grinned in cute condescension.
"What is? Me? Am I cute? D-did you call me cute?" Koudelka's face turned and she seemed to be physically facing the school now.
"Well I mean you're being cute, like, it's cute you don't know about stuff like a stupid kid." Devi nodded with a dumb smile. "But yeah you're pretty cute too. But then again, isn't that what everyone says about you anyways, Ms. Probably-Takes-12-Years-To-Get-Ready-For-School?" she was oddly parodying what Aria said that morning.
Koudelka seemed to freeze and Devi could here the restart software inside her poor blonde head. She had broken this fox apparently. "People... don't call me 'cute', they call me other things so it just surprised me is all."
"What do they call you?" Devi asked; tilting her head as she tried to answer her own question. "Beautiful? Gorgeous? Really really curly haired girl? ...Hot?"
"No, no, be quiet!" Koudelka groaned and tucked her head into her knees. "That's really embarrassing!"
"What?" Devi giggled and then felt her phone vibrate. "Oh hey, new text, probably from my girlfriend!"
"You liar! Liar! You said you didn't have a girlfriend, you stupid liar!" Koudelka spun angrily at Devi; seemingly furious as she pounded her fists against the bench.
"Holy shit, it's my dad, I was fucking with you. Yikes!" Devi giggled; looking at the phone while Koudelka hid her mortified look.
"Well. Tweedle-stupid and Tweedle-jerk-ass are late, so I got another 10 minutes to kill." Devi grinned.
"You call your parents names?" Koudelka looked concerned and in the greyish overcast glow, she looked breathtaking; with her expression reflecting honesty, concern, and curiosity.
"I call my parents lots of shit," Devi sighed. "It's what they get for calling me Debbie! Do I really look like a Deborah to you?"
"I um... think thats a pretty name but I thought your name was Devi, with  a V.... not that I care, it's stupid that you would change it. Nicknames are pointless." Koudelka folded her arms, but that cute look of curiously seemed to be unable to leave her, even if she tried to hide it.
"You know Aria has a bunch of nicknames for you." Devi snickered at the look of abject horror that exploded from Koudelka's face the moment she said that. "Though, I think I'd stick with 'Kody' rather than 'Cunt'."
"...Kody?" Koudelka muttered as her eyes shifted left and right. "Isn't that a boy's name, though?"
"Devi isn't the most feminine name either." the bunny stated. "I think Kody works fine though. Koudelka is hard for the pitiful Lavenderites to say. Besides, 'Koudelka' isn't much of a moan-able name, I think."
"S-say what?" Koudelka shuddered. "Why would you think that about my name?"
"That was a joke, prissy." Devi folded her arms with a crooked smile.
"Oh..." Koudelka fiddled awkwardly with her fingers as a moment of silence passed between them. "...Uhhm. By the way, from earlier, did you just... make up those words to describe me or are those things people say?"
"Y'know, for someone who gives me a lot of crap for being gay, you sure seem interested in me." Devi wiggled her eyebrows at the fox. "We're all a little gay, you know. You don't have to hide it."
"I'm not interested in you!" Koudelka barked. "I'm just.... being polite, you moron."
"Oh? Not interested?" Devi playfully sighed. "Okaaaaay. That's a shame cuz those things I said earlier about you are how I feel."
"About me being prissy?"
"No. No, you idiot." Devi groaned.
When she removes her beanie, no one may see. Unless you are one of the people who sees it. Basically we're saying that she does take it off sometimes c:
I feel sorry for Koudelka about having that kind of a father.. that's just the worst. Having no childhood, no way to actually grow and have fun. He might mean to protect her, but in fact traumatisng her like nothing else.
I've heard a story about some dad that swore, that his daughter will NEVER loose her virginity, cuz if any guy will dare to touch her in any way, he'll kill them on spot. And when girl's mother argued with him that their daughter will have a husband someday, he nearly caught a stroke, raging around.
One of my friends had also a dad like that, which didn't thought twice about hitting her in the face, locking her home, telling her he's "protecting" her, not untill she hit 17 and managed to sqeeze her way out from his grasp. It's quite scary to have such parent. People think it's easy to stand up for yourself, but wheb you was taught from childhood that you're literally nothing and have to obey their each word without a fuss, kids like that barely can survive on their own. Nor they see any point to defend themselves.
Sorry for bringing sadness into the comments, but people need to be aware - the way they're treating their kids, the way they'll grow up.
This is a very thoughtful comment! Thank you for analyzing the story and all the little details we put into it :) And we're sorry to hear about your friend!
She's fine now. My other friend and his boyfriend are now a tripple (a couple of three makes tripple, right? x3).
She managed to wiggle her little foxbutt into a gay couple of two wolves, turning one of the gayest into a bi.
But 17 years of trauma didn't go so well on her though.. Without their help (and a bit of encouragement from me) she wouldn't make it out so far away..
it's been a long itme since I read one of these stories, I guess because the characters seem deep and, I think, are some of the best characters you guys have designed. I look forward to part two.
I've played the rest of the series, actually.  The only one I've beaten, though, is Shadow Heats: From the New World.
