On February 10, 1763, the Treaty of Paris (1763) was signed, ending the Seven Years' War (known as the French and Indian War in North America). The signatories to the treaty included the United Kingdom, France, and Spain with Austria and Prussia signing a separate treaty (Treaty of Hubertusburg) a few days later. The war ended in favor of the British, Prussian, and Portuguese alliance. As per the terms of the Treaty of Paris all territories in Europe were returned to their status from before the war, France surrendered it territorial possessions east of the Mississippi to Britain and Louisiana to Spain (Spain had already been given Louisiana in the Treaty of Fontainebleu the previous year but Louisiana was divided at the Mississippi by the Treaty of Paris, forcing Spain to relinquish Louisiana east of the Mississippi), France pledge to not send troops to Bengal while Britain destroyed its fortifications in British Honduras, France surrender Canada except for the islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon in exchange for the return of its sugar colony Guadaloupe, French fortifications at Dunkirk were reduced to reflect the Treaty of Utrecht (1713), and Britian agreed to protect Roman Catholicism in the New World.
