Background/History
5,000 years ago there was a war on Earth, though Tourmaline was young and couldn't participate. Nevertheless, several years after he was sent as part of a retrieve party to capture and return some traitors to the Homeplanet. While facing them, the comander of the platoon, an Agate, seeing there was no way to win and that there was only but two soldiers remaining of the platoon, the one in the ship and Tourmaline, she forced the young red gem into a fusion traumatizing the poor young Tourmaline.
Tourmaline somehow managed to knock out the Agate and beg to Rose Quartz to poof them so they could split. The leader of the rebels agreed and poofed them managing to retrieve Tourmaline since she sensed potential and a good heart in the gem. But the remaining gem of the platoon managed to retrieve the Agate and return to homeworld. After reforming and changing his looks, Tourmaline was introduced to the beauty that was in earth and he (he decided to change his gender denomination feeling more comfortable that way), decided to help protect it. In time, he decided to leave and see the world by himself and help defend other places with the help of a small platoon, in the end, only he remained alive while the others were either shattered or corrupted.
Years later he learned that Rose had fell in love with a human and they had an offspring, what caused the Quartz to leave her physical form to become part of her son, since neither could exist while the other existed. Tourmaline took the decision to go back to Beach City and find the remaining Crystal Gems and this new kid, the son of Rose and Greg. Once there he found out about the events that had happened recently and the presence of Lapis and Peridot. In the end, seeing the temple being crowded, Tourmaline decided to stay at the barn with Lapis and Tourmaline.
Tourmaline, like Lapis, has a terraformation akin power, being able to manipulate the shadows at will and even create a replica of his weapon so he fights dual sword.
