Sorry for the crummy quality, I snapped this with my phone in a hotel room. I don't want to wait until I get home to upload this.

These two make me smile so much. I can't stop drawing them. They are on my mind all the time. I know there are some of you who feel the same.

Other than the random Judy on the top left, I'm calling this 'The Big Apology', because it's only right that there was one. Nick's heart was crushed when Judy made her speech and then reached for her fox spray. Then, well, she just ditched him. The right thing to do would have been to find Nick as soon as that press conference was over. Instead, she waited two or three months later(I can't quite remember) when she finally went looking for him after discovering the effects of the night howler flowers. Makes you wonder if she ever would have gone looking for him if she hadn't learned that. I like Judy, but she certainly played the young and dumb thing well.

So she finds Nick. I can't imagine what was going on in his head when she showed up, his heart had to have been in his throat. He had her carrot pen in his pocket, which means that two months later, he was still carrying it around with him even though he had NO idea if he'd ever see her again. That tells me that her friendship meant A LOT to him. I don't think he'd ever opened his heart to someone so much.

Judy's tearful apology in the movie was nice, but I think there was another one after Bellwether was busted and before Nick started the ZPD Academy. Much deeper, much more emotional. Maybe Nick would have asked the question, "Carrots, if it weren't for the Night Howlers, would you still have come and found me?" Or maybe he didn't. Maybe he was just so happy to have her friendship again he didn't want to do anything to sabotage it. Maybe it was Judy, through a bit of self reflection, who started the conversation when they were somewhere safe and private.

This deserves to be colored, but I want to get back to work on the comic.

Hmm, I like this idea, at least what you had in the description.  If I were to work on a pseudo-sequel (written, can't draw for crap) to Zootopia, would it be a terrible thing if I borrowed your idea?

No, not at all. Glad to inspire.

That is, of course, if I go through with it and make a story XP

That movie fucking Rocked!!!!!!! And while they would become partners and lovers, that doesn't mean that they won't try to 1up each other from time to time. Like right at the end when Judy stopped the car amd Nick hit his head on the dash.

And loved this pic too! ;3

I tend to see things from Judy's POV though.
Judy had told Nick, "You should be up there with me."
She fully acknowledged that if it weren't for Nick, she wouldn't have found the missing ferals. She also displayed her inexperience with talking to such an 'aggressive' crowd before even going up. Why didn't Nick try and help her when she started getting flustered?
I don't see Judy as mean or even prejudiced against predators. There was a reason why she carried the spray... cause predators tend to be bigger and stronger, so she needs an advantage to even the odds. Nick knew that when he 'threatened' her and made her go for the spray. (Kind of a dick move on his part if you ask me.)
Keep in mind also, Judy had only gotten to know Nick for less than a day and a half by then as well. She clearly didn't intend to upset Nick when she made her 'forced' speech and was hurt when Nick threw the application back at her. Then Nick stormed off. Not Judy but Nick. So who 'abandoned' who?
Nick's actions made it VERY clear to a very confused and hurt Judy that Nick wanted nothing to do with her... so she let him go. This instilled a lot of guilt into Judy as well and she ends up quitting the police force. (A life time dream of hers BTW.)
Later when she finds out about the Night Howlers she saw a opportunity to set the mess that she feels responsible for right, (And she was partially responsible for it.) but once again she knows she can't do it alone... she needs Nick's street smarts and cunning.
You can tell Judy is hurt and remorseful before she even tries to talk to Nick. The bitter exchange still like a fresh wound in her memory. She makes her apology and hopes not only for Nick to help her one last time, but that he'll forgive her and be a friend to her once more.
The rest you know.
So to answer that question. "Would Judy have seeked out Nick if she hadn't discovered the Night Howlers?" I would say... No. Judy was so crushed by his actions and her own self projected guilt that she wouldn't have because she would have felt that encountering him again would only lead to more pain and anger from Nick. She was so crushed that she even gave up on her life long dream of being a police officer... Hell she left Zootopia all together. Just going back to try and get a friendship back wouldn't have been enough of a reason for Judy to justify going back to Nick... but to save the predator race from senseless persecution... Yes, that is bigger than herself or Nick.

Yeah I thought about that too. Nick was definitely being a little bitch by storming off, I should have mentioned that. One thing I definitely got from him was he's let life's rejections sort of define who he is. As sad and touching as the scene of him opening up to Judy about his childhood experience was, I thought, 'Wait, you're letting something that happened when you were 9 define you now??" So yeah, he's got issues.

I don't think Judy did anything malicious. It was like you said, young and inexperience. I guess they both kinda ran from something in self preservation. It made them that much more interesting.

I have never "shipped" anything, but with these two I'm like goddamn FedEx.

Totally. I see them being in BFF mode for a while though, with romantic undertones that they both feel. The 'ship' coming slowly, but when it does happen, it'll be an explosion of fireworks.
