Bummer dude. Well, considering how cheap I got it, I guess I'm getting what I paid for. But if there had been an option of getting the DVD with extras I would have gotten it. I didn't see anything like that.

Your tellin me. Zootopia is a great movie with tons of fan service and poinent plot from fearmongering polititions to over use of Well i did it in good faith lipservice.

That and there all so cuuuute :) (wink wink)

Supposedly there is a rule in movies that you want to 'aim for 5 feet', namely that folks who are under 5 feet tall will be able to enjoy the movie safely, and those over 5 feet tall will not be embarrassed to be seen watching it.

I think John Lassetter hit this one out of the park with the bases loaded.

It won't replace my #1 and #2 favorite movies, but it bumped #3 out of its spot.

Good rule of thumb. What are numbers one and two? This is the best thing I've seen in a long time. It certainly has affected me more than any other animated movie in quite a while. I'd say this is in my top favorite, but I don't have a hierarchy any more. The Secret of NIMH was my number one for a long time.

Schindler's List holds a special spot on the list, though. As some of my ancestors were imprisoned and killed in the concentration camps and other ancestors of mine ran the camps.

Good list. I can certainly put all those on the top of my list as well. Would you believe I only recently finally saw the first two Godfather movies? They somehow slipped through the cracks all these years. I saw Schindler's List in the theater, I don't need to see it again. I can handle human atrocity movies once, but that's it.

Dude, I'm so glad you said that. Had I seen the movie earlier, I wouldn't have drawn that Judy/St. Pauly girl pic, especially the nude one. I won't take it down, but I'll never do porn of them either.

Yeah...that scene and the emotional talk hit pretty hard. I mean, for a movie that was otherwise pretty bright (for the most part) that 5 minutes was probably the most emotionally raw and meaningful.

Also probably one of the points that made me wish Nick was focused on more.

I felt the same way. It was a cute movie that paid homage after homage to......all kind of things. Lots of good lines, lovable characters. But there was that edge that it stepped up to every once in a while. Judy getting bullied at the beginning wasn't very deep, but it wasn't the typical kids' movie bully scene either. When that scene started I was like, "Yeah, the fat fox is gonna bully the little bunny girl." As soon as Gideon shoved her head to the ground I thought, "Oh shit! They're not gonna be gentle about this."

While Judy's my favourite character (both versions of her), my heart went out to cub Nick when he burst into tears after he was muzzled. I just wanted to give him a hug and to tell him everything was gonna be okay.

The thing that made that movie for me was the strength of the characters - even the comic relief ones had depth. One of my favorite places to go for a beer is actually the local cop bar (every town has one) and let's just say I've seen a lot of "Nicks" and "Judys" in there..

I've watched this movie... going on twelve times now I think. I cry every time I get to the flashback scene. Honestly the only thing that is worse than that is watching the sketches for what Zootopia was going to be... with the taming collar party. I've seen that twice and not sure if I want to see it again. The feels are that bad.

Twelve times, awesome. I've seen it three times, not sure I want to watch it too much because I don't want it to lose its effectiveness. The first time I saw the movie and they played the flashback I was like, "What the fuck did I just see? No warning?" I haven't felt this emotional toward a character in many years. It's actually diverted my attention from the comic a bit, I can't stop thinking about it.

The original concept is very dark and fascinating, but I'm also glad they didn't do it. I've got a friend who would disagree, but I think the 'Zoodystopia' version they were going to go with was a little too much like a dark 80s scifi movie. I like what they did with the final version.

I'm too addicted to stop watching it >.>. I am glad as well that they went this direction with a complete rewrite. It still has a very strong message while keeping it from being the truly dark movie it could have been. Case in point that taming collar scene they had written. Seeing a cub Nick who wants to be a Jr. Ranger Scout end up being muzzled is bad enough. That hurts emotionally to watch. Seeing Nick and Judy cowering under a chair while watching this five year old polar bear cub excitedly accepting a collar that Zootopia requires all predators to wear from five up that zaps them when they get too emotional... and that cub not know better while the father is extremely hesitant. It's a party. Not one of the kids knows. The cub gets too excited after the collar is finally put on(again... the father hesitates) and gets a zap. Tears running down the kids face as he has what is to be the first of MANY as he tries to control his emotions while the father hugs his son. Screen panning back to Nick and Judy shows that Nick's collar is a warning yellow...

If the movie played out as it was originally written... I believe I wouldn't have watched it twelve times. I don't think I'd have watched it a second time. That scene alone is beyond heart breaking.

I like how the movie turned out. I'm glad for the rewrite. The movie is still very powerful in its underlying message and topic without being dark as hell. I enjoy getting others who haven't seen it to watch it.

I'm so glad the Pixar execs told Disney to scrap it. They were very clear that Disney had created a world that everyone is going to hate. Also, the fact that the taming collars are a government sanctioned device takes away from the story's impact, in my opinion. I like the idea in the final version that Zootopia is a place where, on the books, "Anyone can be anything." But pull the layers back just a little, and the society hasn't caught up with its own motto. I just find that way more powerful. It makes the viewer think a little more about what they're seeing. That Nick has grown up with what feels like a big lie all around him.

The message as it is... is indeed powerful. Sometimes subtle, other times blatantly in your face. But all the same it is the perfect mix.

As far as Pixar... Pixar had nothing to do with the movie. This was all internal Disney. As the directors went ahead with the project and it started to come to life they realized that what they had wasn't going where they wanted and in a whole... a dysfunctional society was not something they wanted to portray. It would leave the viewers hating the city and society before the meat of the story was presented and wasn't leaving much room to go anywhere. They scrapped their whole project and started over.

What's funny is Byron Howard and Rich Moore(the directors) actually voice two animals in the movie =P.... I'll give you a hint... they argue with each other X3

Oh... I love the ending with the street racer =P... He stops pretty quick too all things considering. X3

Sorry, didn't word that right. I know Pixar wasn't involved in making it, but it was them who expressed their opinion about the shock collar storyline being a bad idea. It's mentioned in the Imagining Zootopia documentary.

The directors voice Judy's neighbors if I remember correctly. I really enjoyed the interviews with them, they seem like good guys and I'm glad they were able to make this movie. I hope they have ideas for a sequel. I mean, they obviously have TONS of ideas and material in their head regarding this world.

I'll have to go back and watch the extra features again. I thought Byron and Rich had stated as the story and sketches went along... it just didn't feel right as well as wasn't going where they wanted so the scrapped it. I could have gotten that all wrong.

And I love the interviews with them as well... one question was about hybrids =P.

No you're probably right as well. I've only watched it once and I know they face a lot of dilemmas. There was actually a question about hybrids? I missed that. But then I've only seen some of the stuff that's on youtube, my DVD doesn't have any of the special features.
