This was some world building for the Fenra, aiming to get a handle on how they age and the developement of their bodies in regards to proportion and size. Here, a male Sun Fenra is used as a guinea pig =).
Why/how do they lose their wings? I'm assuming this is the natural progression and this individual didn't just suffer a terrible accident at some point in his teens, of course.

From what I've gleaned from the other pics of them (and hoping Sefeiren will excuse my input when it's not my place of expertise) I don't think they lose them. It appears in most adult Fenra pics the wings are laid down along the tail. Note that the three (blades?) of the wing still exist, just further down below the hip & inverted as if the wings were crossed. So I'd assume the wing base becomes much longer at this point & they can be laid to rest along the tail.

Feryl is correct that at a certain age both male and female sun fenra become able and learn how to lay their wings down along their tail. This is a behavior they exhibit mostly as a sign of status, but it also just helps to keep the wings out of the way. They believe that it gives them a more regal appearance, and their image is very important to them.
Sun fenra are something of a ruling elite race of fenra. Because of their appearance and the raw magical power they control, the sun fenra are believed by some "lesser" fenra to be legendary ascended beings. Whether they actually are or not is not certain, but they use this belief to their advantage to subjugate those fenra they consider inferior to themselves. One example of this is the jungle fenra living around the sun fenra city Halo'koti.

I an really interested in this project now. Have you written any bio of the Fenra or information on them in general? Since the citra project was abandoned by their creator & the RL species are just so bland I'm always looking for someone with a true creative spark to create new & fascinating species.
Cute is a huge bonus & you've got that nailed, too.

Most of the information we've released on the project is in the descriptions of the various fenra images. Their whole world and history and the stories we have planned for them get worked on slowly as we have time. It's slow going, but it's getting there. It just takes a while because putting in time to put food on our table takes priority to working on these guys most of the time.

I can certainly understand that. I'm also involved in the creation of a new species. Not the citras. Better. ^.^ While it is a time-consuming & sometimes frustrating process when you forget something vitally important - I feel it's a labor of love when I feel them as real.
