This has been a long time coming, but I'm finally making it official. I will be setting up a Patreon in the next couple of months to help support myself as an artist!

This is a bit of a lengthy description so first, here's the TL;DR version:
" I'm preparing to launch my Patreon soon, but only once I have some more substantial, regular content to base it off of.
If you want to support me on Patreon, great! Thanks so much for your enthusiasm. I will have my account up and running once I am confident that I can produce frequent, good quality content.
If you're not so keen on the idea, that's fine too! I am supported not just by money, but also by your watches, viewership, favourites, and comments. Every little bit helps, and I promise that opting out will not impede on your present experience of my artwork.

With the summary out of the way, I want to better explain my stance on Patreon usage and what my intentions are for setting up my own account there. Whatever I do, my highest priority is that of transparency. I know I won't make everybody happy, but at least people will know what to expect from me moving forwards.

1. I want my Patreon account to be based off of some form of established, consistent content. Many of my long-term followers, as I've mentioned before, will tell you that I've been coming and going from the fandom. Based on my past behaviour I think it is a little irresponsible to chuck a Patreon page up cold turkey without having proven that I can and will produce consistent (although not necessarily constant) content that is worth backing. As my gallery will attest to, I love sketching - but it can get a little lazy as a medium (as far as I'm concerned). My audience deserves better.

To this end, as the comic above shows, I plan to continue streaming at least once a week, produce a full colour piece (whether commissioned or otherwise) once a month, and start up a regular comic. This will set up a starting baseline, and if my Patreon page gathers momentum, I will definitely increase the amount of content I produce as I go along. I won't be setting up any account on Patreon until I can establish that rhythm and maintain it comfortably.

2. I want to support myself while dedicating more time and energy into developing my craft. While I have been managing to do this on a more regular basis over the past few months, the fact is that I have not been making much money to live on. Relying on commissions to support myself puts a huge financial burden on individual customers, which is an unfair business model for everyone involved. Establishing a Patreon page, on the other hand, will provide benefits for more of my audience and customers while lowering the barrier of entry for everyone who would like to chip in. This kind of goes without saying since it's the whole point of the Patreon business model, but it is an idea that I agree with very strongly.

3. I will be producing more publicly available content as a result of my Patreon account, not less. This might sound obvious, but some artists like to hide a substantial amount of content behind a Patreon paywall. I will reserve the right to pick and choose content to offer exclusively to my patrons as part of their patronage, but this will make up a small minority of the work I produce. My public audience will still get to see the bulk of that content whether or not they are subscribed to me on Patreon. I do not produce a substantial amount of artwork at the moment, and I know that many of you would like to see that improve. This will help.

4. I plan to use Patreon to gradually build a foundation for myself as a professional artist. What I mean by this is that I don't expect to make a lot of money from this early on, or even for many months following that. What this will give me is some kind of basis upon which to build things up slowly but surely. As a result, what I will produce on the first day will not necessarily be a guarantee of what I will be producing on the hundredth one, and I will be experimenting with new ideas and concepts as much as possible as I go along. You are free to "vote with your wallet," as it were, and support me only as far as you enjoy what I am producing.

5. I will still be taking commissions from time to time. If you opt out of Patreon because you don't like my regular content, that's okay! You can still commission me for specific requests whenever I have some commission slots open. This way, everyone's needs and tastes can be covered in a simple, easy system (as much as I can possibly manage to, anyhow).

Hopefully I didn't start things off with anything particularly controversial, and that you're as excited about this project as I am. I'll be posting another announcement once my account has been opened, with all the necessary details.

Thanks for supporting me all this time — I hope it will be worth your while.

I would not use patreon if I were you. They got hacked and tons of personal information was stolen. They are still finding that areas they said were "secure" and "untouchable" were actually hacked as well.

I appreciate the concern and I'm aware of the vulnerabilities, but this is an opportunity too great for me to miss out on. There aren't many comparable alternatives right now, sadly. Even then, I'm pretty sure those would be just as vulnerable.

They may be, but they won't lie and tell you everything is fine only for you to find out later that your private information was stolen and posted all over the web
