When life gets hard, and those around you prove to be wholly unreliable, there is no one else but yourself at the end of the day. Your path is just as soon marked by feelings of emptiness, crossed with embittered despondency as you look upon the world around you through a distorted light. You say what you want, and you do as you can, but your words and actions ultimately harbor choice unforeseen consequences to follow. And after all is said and done, you stand alone with them. Always.
And when you've got no one else to lean on or turn to, you're all alone at the end of the day. You walk your own path and either break down and wallow in regret or strive to achieve a far greater standard for yourself to go beyond ordinary expectation. Steadfast resolve in the face of mounting adversity conquers all, facing forwards to meet lifes challenges head on rather than turning tail and running from them in fear or weakness.
They killed his girlfriend, and they tried to kill him, but they weren't counting on the pandas iron will and unrelenting drive to survive. A fitting punishment, so they thought, just before they began to close in to finish the panda off any way they knew how. The pandas fall from fair graces had been marked by his own inherent decline in morality and lax empathy, both of which led to his disenfranchisement from those he had once held in high regard. It was only in one remaining fixation in the form of his girlfriend that kept him tethered to the life he knew. But in losing her so suddenly, his world soon became broken and reshaped only by what antipathy and ire came to manifest the core of his being, marked by his cold resolve and fervent condemnation towards those to have taken her from him.
This summer, Tujoma Musaki stars as the unnamed motorist in Strive. Faced with mounting adversity in an ongoing struggle to follow through in avenging the death of his friends and lover to a sadistic street gang, Tujoma will strive to survive in Strive. In a story detailing the hard luck and endemic consequences to follow the marks of ones actions in the way of callous choices, they just as easily seem to take on a life of their own as one acts more upon impulse than any sense of forethought. And in the case of the motorist, the split second decisions to follow mean all the difference as he traverses the thin line between life and death. Between vicious street fights to high speed high octane car chases spanning the full length of the city limits, Strive show cases a young mans rise and fall in overcoming impossible odds, and finding himself again along the way.
Commentary: Voted best movie of 2016, and the winner of 12 academy awards for best acting, an all-original soundtrack matching the movies broodingly thematic scenes, and the means of artistic conveyance through cinematic gold. Tan outta tan! A must see for any neo-noire movie fan liking substance in story with violence and non-stop action to match. Yeah, I wish. Yes, this is in fact a blatant homage in reference to that one Ryan Gosling film, Drive. Its one of those choice movies that holds a special place in my heart in having influenced me in a more positive light along the way, not to mention being riveting and engaging as a movie. While the film wasn't exceptionally action packed or over the top, it did convey a sense of nitty gritty realism to me that is rarely matched in movies these days. It really appealed to me through how Ryan Gosling portrayed his character and how the story played out.
So, this was was started during a recent period in my life of growing dissatisfaction and frustration, largely between my increasingly bleak prospects and disappointment in the people I found myself to be surrounded by. The idea had really been around for a while, though, partly in paying homage to the film but also to try and portray Tujo as something of a bad ass. It wasn't until I felt afflicted that I had actually gotten started, and it wasn't finished until today.
I've thankfully more or less come to terms with disappointment. This gave me a more solid opportunity to play around with GIMP and what it could do, largely with the lens-flares and text, but also in playing around the contrast to make for a more vibrant image. Background and lineart took a while, not to mention the coloring and shading to match. But it was a fun project that really came together in the end, and I'm thankful for that. Hope you all like it!
This is actually a pretty good new look for Tujo, but...think it'll be a separate character if he ever appears again elsewhere in my stories. Styling was adapted for a far more serious look, but eh..
