Palcomix offline

by
For those who are wondering what happened.. we suffered the attack of Hackers... yesterday they was using bots for send thousend of mails throught our server using SMTP email thing.. the purpose, taking down our servers ...once we discover it we deactivated part of the server for being back online.. at least for some minutes ... they notice it and changed of strategy.. have no idea what they did, but this time they really damaged our server.. that was the end... we are working hard to being back online as soon is possible ...my apollogies to all you guys for the trouble (specially mobius unleashed members, we will compensate this issue as soon we'll be back)

Note : if you guys notice slowdowns each time i updated the comics there, is becouse people are using programs to download our pages instead enter to the page.. example : http://alturl.com/737bs (i love when the guy says "WTF does this shit do? - It downloads comics from PalComix, fast and easily :):):) )

..some of these programs have autodownload features , (if they aren't troyans for Ddos attacks) that really affect the server... i bet some people inserted the troyans for generate the attacks against us in one of those programs.. but i'm not sure... in any case.. fighting against these people, and the people who try to post our pay-only contents on their sites ...is really frustrating.... i think some of us are thinking on quit sadly..

If you don't host your website yourself, it's normally up to your hosting company to prevent these sort of attacks. I hope you'll be compensated.

Yeah the internet has evolved into a real battle ground for legit porn these days.  : /    Goodluck with that.  Saddly I cannot provide any real advice here, not my area of expertise.  :(

That's only an excuse. If they aren't doing it due to porn reasons, then they would probably be attacking sites over which Lol cat is better. People love being arse holes and causing trouble for lawls.
CrystalMendrilia

I wasn't referring to that aspect.  Hackers, well really I wouldn't consider them hackers. A Hacker is someone who knows what they're doing but those that do know what they are doing wouldn't generally be bothered with a site like Palcomix.   These are probably just brats that are using programs made by someone more skilled.

There's a term for the people who attacked Palcomix using all pre-designed programs assembled 'plug'n'play' into a virus.

They're called 'script kiddies,' since they have NO skilz; all they can do is run scripts written by other people.  Script kiddies deserve only scorn, contempt, and long sentences in real, dangerous, ass-raping jail.

Like how teachers aren't paid low salaries, prisons aren't so ass raping anymore.

Thanks for the information though. ^_^  I never heard that term before.

Teachers are paid very low salaries for the ammount of work the do throughout the year. lots of them can just barely support themselves..... they should acutally be paied a little more.
CrystalMendrilia
13 years, 5 months ago
It's a common missbelief that teachers and by teachers i Mean public teachers, not private teachers who 'are' paid far less than they deserve....  but in the public sector, they 'used' to be paid low salaries in trade for better benefits. Now, they have amazing benefits with very high pay. By high pay of course I mean things like 70K+ to start.   (And no I'm not talking about administrators)  further, I'm also talking specifically about California.

But if we were having this discussion 20 years ago, I'd be in complete agreement with you because it would be correct.  But then I'd be arguing back then that they deserve better pay because their product isn't a 50% drop out rate like it is today.
Erebos26
13 years, 5 months ago
They are paid more but that also goes with that many things cost much more than they did even 20 years ago. It costs lots of times more to have a house and stuff so even if they are paid more it costs more to live now so you have to take that in consideration......
CrystalMendrilia

Actually I made that statement accounting for inflation already.

You did? Sorry wasn't reading well then... sorry.

Oh no, you read fine. It was possible that I hadn't accounted for inflation because I hadn't mentioned it. ^_^ NO apology needed. I should have noted that initially.  :)

I don't even go to Palcomix, but I can tell you this: Hackers probably want to become the new Cyber-Terrorists, to get rich quick, to make lives miserable, and to plunge the world into war. Bunch of psychopaths, they are! They should get the death sentence, but no, that would make all of us mad that lives are wasted.

Thank you for telling us whats been happenning, I wish it had just been a normal mechanical faliure that was known cost, and relativelyquick and easy to fix.

By teh way, Ive been trying to watch Endeavour via NASA, using VLC on Ubuntu 11.. Each and every time, after a period of time, the machine locks up badly.

Yesterday It took three reboots and a force fix on two partitions, ext 2 root and tmp before it would even boot.

I havent had so much fun since I tried to run personal hardware upgrades and out of bounds hacks on an Amiga. 8)
Even Windows ME wasnt this unstable.. well, after I sorted out the memory.

I really hope you find something to patch it,because setting up a hard case server is a pain.. The hobby magazines suggest using a minimum of 5 machines.. and thats before honeypots etc. 8(

Thanks for all the fish. 8)

Thank you for the Update. I was wondering what had happened. wish I could help but although I can do some basic hacking I do not know enough to stop an attack. by the way I only do low level Ethical hacking meaning only with the Owners permission and just regaining access.

I was wondering if your site was being targeted for a DOS attack, the way it kept coming up as "the server is busy", and later not coming up at all. *sigh* Some people just get their kicks out of ruining other people's fun.

The good news is that if you could actually pin it down to an individual or a group of people, that sort of thing is considered "cyber terrorism" these days, and the government authorities take such attacks very seriously. Your hosting service and/or ISP may be able to help you to track down and prosecute the SOB's.

Whatever you do, don't let it stop you. That's letting them win by default.

when I checked the site last night - I didn't notice anything - when I checked tonight - I went here to find out what is up - I am glad that you are keeping everyone up to date - hopefully you can find a way to block this attack.

This is terrible, but we can all help. I am not very computer savvy, but I have been combing the Internet for anything that may be helpful. And I've got a couple friends at my house trying to help. I found and downloaded this to my iPhone: http://iphone.aruljohn.com/ .
It may work on your PC. There are definitely similar things for PC's.
You can all help if you want, there are ways to catch these scum.
Here's what I have so far;
1) There are dozens of sites who frequently hack Palcomix and it's affiliates and pay sites to steal art and passwords. There are also sites who hate Palcomix, and although I haven't found proof positive on them yet, I wouldn't put it past them.
2) The Turkish Hacker AKA, Brunei. I found this person claiming to have hacked Palcomix recently. I did some research and found out the "Turkish Hacker" hacks almost anything, see here: http://www.google.com/m/search?aq=f&oq=&aqi=g1...

This person has been doing this for years, and leaves a tag, basically it's the name, a Turkish flag, and some reference about your sites security being no good.
This person is a professional, and I have no clue who they are.
They leave this as "contact info" : brunei@w.cn

3) The government, religions? I have no proof of this, but if you decide to help search, don't discount them. You'ed be surprised...

Finally, I found several sites that have tons of domain data on Palcomix, more than enough for a hacker to use. Including where the servers are.

All I'm saying is, if you go online and start hunting, you never know what you'll find, but a lot of hackers love to brag. Some leave an unintentional bread crumb trail.
I have found at least one person using the same username as a current pal forum member frequenting sites that "pirate" art and passcodes, and asking for such things.
Since there's no way I could ever be "sure" it's the same person, I won't report it as fact.
All I'm saying is, if you dig, you get dirt. Turn over what you get to Marybell, bbmbbf, etc... And maybe they can use it.
These people are people, and we can fight them, and we can win!
There's got to be pal supporters who know just as much about computers as the hackers.
Let's rise up and burry these S.o.b's!
We must fight back!
Good luck, and thank you.

That sucks. Those bastards will attack anything. The playstation network was down for 3 weeks recently because of hacking. I hope you can fix it without too much problem. I also hope nobody leaves because of it and or the posting of pay content. You have some amazing talent working for Palcomix and I'd hate to see them go.

You should get a managed server. Those are being secured by your ISP and your ISP gets them up again.

Not much you can do about hackers if in any corner of the Internet comes up a new exploitable security hole to kick into a server.

FYI - the TJA website is down the same way, where Cats 'n Cameras is hosted. May be the same servers, as TJA and Palcomix have close ties?
Sonny
13 years, 6 months ago
Exactly, the servers are listed as jab 1,2,3.
The servers are located in Providence Utah, Scottsdale, Az, and Chicago, Il.
Found those stats during my research.

I hate hearing that.  I don't understand the point in hacking and causing trouble, is it really that much fun screwing with someones hard work, and if you think it is, what the fuck is wrong with you?

Anyway, I hope you guys get the site back up soon, especially the pay sites, you guys work too damn hard for us to not get any green. :(

The general trend of computer hackers is anarchy; disruption of order, causing disarray, and initializing chaos, all to make themselves feel as if they are gods.  If these people would just put even ten percent of the effort they put into developing viruses and spyware into something more productive, we would be on a fast track to Utopian society within our own lifetimes.

The hackers are possibly some banned palcomixers that are pissed off i was thinking about hacking them back but then i would be stooping to their level amd wouldn't be any better than them

On the DA copy of this, I put my guess on TheGuyYouKnow.
And bbm, i know one site that has some of the Pokeporn/ mobius unleashed stuff, I'll do what I can to get it taken down. I may have to point the admins to you and Krezz as the artists to ensure it goes on the Do Not Post list.

This is one time where I say that the hackers should be strung up by their thumbs.... and then have them removed! No reason to attack a website like Palcomix, who have done nothing to no one.
