Dragons (intro)

Hi, Flynn here :3

I am obssesed with dragons, so I'd like to share some dragon facts with you within these journals :Dfirst

Dragons 101
Well, what are dragons?
there are many stories as to what dragons truly are. Many of these stories relate or associate dragons with magic or magical beasts. The honest truth is that even though dragons do have unique adaptations, they are more animal than mythical beast:3

To begin with, I'd like to explain the "magic" behind fire breathing.
to be exact, dragons don't "breathe" fire; they exhale fire.
Anyways~
not all dragons breathe fire, and those that do, don't do it with magic....
Within the back of a dragon's throat, there is a gland. This gland's major purpose is not serve as a means of fire making, but instead it creates a mucus like substance that helps food slide down the throat. This substance is indeed very flammable and is the primary fuel for a dragons fire.

Now you see, the substance in the throat isnt capable of producing fire on its own. It was believed that dragons would (at a young age) swallow rocks that would get stuck and inbedded within the walls of the sticky mucus and be stored their to create sparks as throat muscles frictioed them together. This theory though was proven to be wrong since the mucus was too loose, and the rocks would have just slid down to the stomach.

SO, lol ~
It just so happens dragons create fire from..well...burping xD.
How?
Well, the acids inside a dragon's stomach produce gases that are so hot, it can ignite the mucus  linings to produce...FIRE!
So dragons learn (at an early age lol) to manipulate their stomach glands to produce the gases that would ignite the fire.

THAT, my dear friends is the Dragon 101 on dragons and fire.
