Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! This episode was freakin' hilarious! And it was focused on Sonic & Tails, too. And probably featuring the ugliest Pokèmon ever. XD
With that said, here's my review of the latest episode of Sonic Boom, which aired on April 29th, 2017.
"Do Not Disturb"
The episode starts with Sonic asleep in his shack, muttering something about colored arms. (Okay, that joke's getting old...) Suddenly, something slobbers all over him, waking him up. Sonic soon came face to face with the ugliest -- and smelliest -- animal he's ever seen. The creature roared, knocking Sonic off of his hammock. Fastidious Beaver entered and informed Sonic that the creature is known as a Widabit, an extremely rare and majestic species. Though, you wouldn't be able to tell from the looks and smell. XD Fastidious then notices the beast drooling, saying that she (Again, how could anyone tell that's a female?) has chosen Sonic's Shack for her nesting ritual, and, as the Chairman of the Endangered Species Coalition, he and Amy, who happens to be the Vice-Chairman, force Sonic to leave his home until this Widabit completes this ritual and finds its mate. So, let's recap here: Sonic's being evicted from his own home because a stupid, smelly animal wanders inside. This Is Why You Need Doors In Your Home, Sonic! XD Later, at Tails' place, Sonic, with a pillow, tells Tails what happened as he stays with him for a while. Though, given the fact that he's on the couch with his feet on the table and Tails immediately puts a magazine under his feet, I've got a feeling this may not end as well as I would hope... What follows is a montage sequence showing Sonic's time with Tails. At first, it's good, Sonic & Tails playing video games, playing in a blanket fort, and pulling fun pranks, but then... with Sonic shaking up a grape soda before Tails opens it, Sonic constantly beating Tails in a video game and doing a victory dance afterwards, and Sonic leaving a mess everywhere in the house, Tails started to get mad. On a side note, I'd think the theme to The Odd Couple or something sounding similar to it would have fit this montage better. The next day, at Meh Burger, Sonic was telling Amy, Knuckles, and Sticks about how much fun they're having and Tails... half-heartedly agreed. Then Dave called out the order for Sonic... only he got his name wrong. So, when Sonic leaves to deal with this stupidity, Tails desperately asks for his friends' help and wants to know how long until the Widabit leaves so Sonic can go back home. Amy tells him that it could take months and that you can't rush love. Tails thinks though it could use a push. Later, Tails sets up a speaker on the roof of Sonic's Shack. The speaker makes the mating call of the Widabit, which Sonic compares it to Eggman after Meh Burger's All-You-Can-Eat promotion. XD Suddenly, a male Widabit enters Sonic's Shack. The 2 sniff each other and growl at each other. The female headbutts the male and chases him around. Amy clearly sees that they're not getting along. Sonic, however, thinks they can get them together if they set the right mood. Soon, they have Sonic's Shack to look like a fancy restaurant, with Tails playing the violin and Amy lighting the candles. Sonic, acting as the waiter, offers the potential lovebirds the house special, which, I looked up, was just fishsticks, glazed ham slices, and nacho cheese. :D While they tried to make it like Lady and the Tramp, it quickly turned to Beethoven's 2nd as the 2 Widabits crashed the table, spilling the food on Sonic, and ran about in the Shack, knocking Tails over in the process and covering him in drool. Eggman sees this through his flybot and decides to attack the village while they're busy with the Widabits. Soon, Sonic, Tails, and Amy are seen trying to push the male Widabit back inside Sonic's Shack. Tails was mad that Sonic didn't use the scented candles. Sonic claimed that they were scented as the box said fresh air on them. XD Sonic then complained that Tails' violin playing was mediocre, at best. As the two were arguing, the male Widabit knocked over the trio and ran off. Sonic asked Tails if he was happy because the male Widabit ran off. Tails responded by saying if they don't get the Widabit out of Sonic's Shack, he's stuck with Sonic trashing his home and being forced to watch cheesy reality TV shows. Sonic then said that Tails was being the accurate definition of a neat freak. Suddenly, Sticks contacts them, saying Eggman's attacking the village. Sonic & Tails decide to their anger out on Eggman's robots instead... Meanwhile, Knuckles and Sticks were in the midst of battling Eggman's robots as Sticks destroys a Crabmeat with her boomerang. Eggman then claims that they'll never beat his new Ball Bots as they're virtually indestructible. Knux punches it like nothing and it explodes! :D Once Sonic, Tails, and Amy show up, Sonic spindashes several Crabmeats when... https://twitter.com/AngelCam7/status/858507779723624452 The Male Widabit Shows Up Out Of Nowhere! XD Eggman was about to blast it when Fastidious appears, informing everyone that they'll have to take their battle elsewhere. Sonic and friends easily move several feet away from the endangered species while Eggman refused to move from his current spot. Eventually, Eggman gives in and moves as well. But, as soon as they were about to continue their battle, the Widabit wanders in between them again, followed quickly by Fastidious! XD As Eggman questions why they're even bothering protecting it since it seems that it wants to be blasted by lasers, Sonic commented that he hopes he never see another Widabit again... Unfortunately, he didn't get his wish as loud rumblings were heard and we see a stampede of male Widabits! As Tails commented that his Widabit call worked too well, the villagers ran away from the stampede. The stampede knock Eggman over and send him flying! Meanwhile, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Sticks save several villagers from being trampled by the Widabit stampede. Soon, Sonic and friends and Fastidious returned to Sonic's Shack where there was a lot of Widabits in the area! Sonic was confused as they said the Widabit is supposed to be an endangered species. Fastidious informs them that, if there are at least 50 of these creatures, they can be legally relocated to a nature preserve. Tails added that Sonic could move back home. Sonic quickly counted all the Widabits in the area, but, unfortunately, counting the female, there were only 49. Tails wondered how they'll be able to find the 50th one. Sticks says that these creatures exert a unique pungent aroma and she'll be able to sniff one down in no time. Once again, we get bloodhound Sticks (Yay! :D ) as she sniffs for the trail of the 50th Widabit, with her friends following close behind. While this happens, Sonic & Tails continue to complain about living together and how they gotta find this 50th Widabit. Suddenly, some foul odor assaulted their noses. And it was the 50th Widabit. https://twitter.com/AngelCam7/status/858516055781769216 Sonic and Tails argued over who would be the one to lead the smelly shiny back to Sonic's Shack while Amy, Sticks, and Knuckles left them to work this out themselves. The duo then called each other donut holes... then laughed, realizing they were both being donut holes and just because they don't make best roommates, doesn't make them any less best buds. https://twitter.com/AngelCam7/status/858516724207017984 Sonic commented that it's a shame that they don't have that Widabit call. Tails then realizes that he could use his communicator to play the sound. As the call is heard, the shiny Widabit starts to charge at Tails who makes a run for it. Sonic quickly grabs Tails and speeds off back to his home with the Widabit close behind. As Knuckles, Amy, and Sticks made their way back to Sonic's Shack, Sonic & Tails quickly lead the shiny one in front of his home. The female Widabit sees the oddly colored male and immediately falls in love as the other creature is smitten with the female as well. As the 2 run inside Sonic's Shack, Sonic was relieved that the Widabits will be moved to a nature preserve and Sonic gets his home back. Amy agreed, but said as soon as the Widabits finish their courting ritual which, according to Fastidious, takes a week! (These things take a week to bang?!) Sticks commented that those two would still be roommates for while, then Knux added 3 since he was apparently living under Tails' porch! When Tails said that he can't do that, Knux immediately takes it as an invite to stay with Sonic & Tails! XD
I would LOVE to see this continue, maybe as a mini-episode or comic. That'd be great to see Team Sonic trying to live together in an Odd Couple like theme... or Odd Trio, in this case. XD Like I said, this episode was funny with its ridiculousness. It wasn't anything spectacular, but it was enjoyable.
But speaking of spectacular... The 4-part special starts next! The Month of May! So... Here's what's going to happen... I'm going to wait until all 4 episodes air so I can make a mega-super special review. So... yeah... Hopefully, I'll use this extra time to FINISH MY FREAKIN' COMICS (over on dA)!
Watching this episode last Saturday I'm sure I wasn't be the only one who felt uncomfortably awkward about the whole mating concept in a Sonic Boom episode, which is ironic considering the kind of material you see in this forum, I know the concept of mating in official Sonic material is not new, the Chao mating comes to mind, for example, in which even as a kid I thought it was a bit awkward but acceptable, then there's Charmy "penetrating" the tulips in Sonic Heroes, again kinda mating, so I guess it's just me after all, lol.
