I'm fairly indifferent about it, but usually if the artist is just playing music or chatting with their buddies while they stream, I turn it down and listen to my own music. I tend to feel like I'm just trespassing when they're only talking to friends. I only keep it on if they're actually using the mic to communicate with stream participants for things like taking in-stream commissions or asking for my input on a piece I've bought from them.

When I'm watching gaming streams I like the mic, because you can chat with the streamer easier. In art streams I like mics as well, but it depends. Some streamers like to have other people in a call, and I HATE that. Feels like they're just chatting to their friend and ignoring everyone else. If it's just them chatting on the mic, it saves them having to stop and type, which can increase their productivity, so that's good.
