Para-documental shows. Are they a thing everywhere?

I wonder if this is something in other countries too, but in the last years Polish television has been dominated with a very peculiar type of entertainment presenting some dramatic life stories. There's a lot of them. Some happen in hospitals, some just show some pathological families and their problems, some show the strange events happening on a holiday...

They all have a few things in common: they all show very extreme situations with many weird twists and drama and some intense relations between people. None of the people starring in them are actors and they are all terribly artificial. There's a narrator. And the action of the show is constantly interrupted with interviews with the characters: suddenly the show stops, and the person involved in the last scene stands in front of the camera and explains to the viewer how she feels about the situation.

Example! I happened to see one episode of such show last night and this particular one was sooooo bad and pathetic that I couldn't get it out of my head, but it wasn't pleasant to think about it at all. I was like... Fuck! What a dumb family, what a fucked up girl and even more fucked up mother. What did I even watch? So here you go, the story:

Girl lives in a small place with her parents who are unemployed and very poor. But she gets a rich boyfriend which makes her move to a nice apartment and get plenty of money from him. Parents are happy, because they don't have to support her any more and they have more room at home. But he kicks her out one day and she goes back to her parents. Her mother is mad her girl lost such a good life and she goes to that boyfriend's place and yells. As it turns out he kicked the girl out, because he wasn't so good in bed, so she cheated on him. The mother starts encouraging her daughter to win him back and together with her they start doing series of idiotic things like breaking in the guy's apartment to surprise him there with a dance in sexy clothes and many other stupidities, but nothing works. So the mother comes up with a plan to tell him that the girl is pregnant and he's going to be a father. He accepts her back for the child's good and then she fucks with him regularly, unsuccessfully trying to really get pregnant so that he doesn't find out she was lying. The mother likes the nicer apartment and she manages to force herself also into the boy's apartment despite his protests, saying she needs to take care of the pregnant daughter. She's annoying as fuck. She keeps pushing the boy around as if she was at her own home. She spends his money and gets on the nerves of the boy's parents too when they visit... She keeps coming up with ideas how to cover her daughter's lie, suggesting she should fuck with somebody else and lie to the boy that it's his child. And then she buys a fake belly for her daughter which she starts wearing under the clothes. All this shit goes on for 3 months giving the guy a lot of stress until his own mother visits and starts asking questions about the pregnancy and eventually lifts the girl's shirt and finds the lie. The boy kicks out the girl and girl's mother immediately. People find out what she did, she loses all her friends. In the closing part she explains after all this she decided to change her life and explains what she did to stop using other people to get money, while the mother says that her daughter was stupid and that she could have still be lying about it and living for free by smartly playing it and saying she miscarried, something like that... That was one fucked up mother. It was actually all her idea all the time. And she was annoying, annoying, annoying... Damn... I'm scared of people like that. I worry if they exist for real.

Eeeeeither way... Is this kind of shit shown everywhere these days?

I haven't watched TV in about 10 years, so I don't know if anything like that runs here. It however doesn't sound like something I'd be surprised to see. I remember years ago seeing something somewhat similar on YouTube, following a loan shark's efforts in the UK.
