Hey... so... that episode... That was just... Yikes... I mean...
Am I the only Sonic fan who gets uneasy whenever the concept of an evil Sonic enters the official canon. (EXE does not count!) Not to say this was a bad episode, just... it just gave me chills...
Right, so... here's my review on the latest episode of Sonic Boom, which aired on February 4th, 2017.
"Mech Suits Me"
The episode already started off intensely as we see Tails, Amy, Knuckles, & Sticks running through the jungle with panicked expressions, armed with those giant baton things you see on American Gladiators. We then see something spying on them through a thermovision view... (Holy Crap! Predator!!!) As the gang looks around, Tails saw something move in the branches... before he gets taken away by a rope trap dragging him in the bushes! Amy comments on how they're not safe... and she gets snatched into the bushes! Sticks and Knuckles tries to escape across the tree trunks when they come in contact with... a menacing looking Sonic telling them that escaping is not gonna be that easy. (Yeah, I'm scared...) Sticks leaps and tries to attack Sonic, but missed. Sonic found himself trapped between Sticks and Knuckles, but kept dodging their attacks. Sonic was almost knocked off until he swung around his own giant baton and knocked Knuckles off. Sticks charges at Sonic, but he used her momentum against her as he flipped her over and off of the trunk, crashing to the jungle below. And... it turns out Sonic and the gang were just playing a game! (Yeah, I had to quickly recover from that near heart attack I was about to have there...) As Sonic celebrated victory, and Tails, Amy, & Knuckles climbed up the tree trunk to join jim, he asked who's next to be the Jungle Predator (AKA the most twisted game of tag I have ever seen...) Tails said it was Sticks' turn and wondered where she was. Sticks calls out to the gang from below next to a cave, telling them to check this out. Amy, thinking Sticks was still playing and trying to trick them, comments on how that's the oldest trick in the Jungle Predator book. XD As the gang enters the dark cave, Tails decides to bring to light his latest invention. With the press of a button, Sonic's, Tails', Knuckles', and Amy's outfits and gear started to illuminate. (Ha! This is straight out of a special pre-order bonus for the Wii U Sonic Boom game. One of the few things I enjoyed from that game. :) ) They soon see strange purple writing on the cave walls. As Sticks believed that this was placed here by either the Illuminati, lizard people, or the league of ventriloquists, Amy deduced that they're markings from the time of the Ancients. When asked what they mean, Amy said that the answers may lie deeper in the cave... mostly due to the big arrow pointing in that direction. :) They soon come across something metal buried underneath some rocks with a hand sticking out. After Knuckles makes a slightly amusing joke about it needing a hand and giving it a high five, the gang move the rocks out of the way. Sticks thinks it's an evil robot. Amy says that it's actually a mech suit. Sonic commented on how the suit kind of looked like him. Tails was about to run some tests on the suit... until Sonic took it upon himself to give it a test drive for himself! As the gang followed Sonic, he found himself bumping into some kind of force field. He looks out to see Eggman in his Egg Mobile, gloating about how he kept an eye on them, thanks to his camouflage bot... which was just a giant fly bot hiding behind a stick. Tails tried to hack the force field, but can't get any signals inside the cave. As Eggman continues to gloat on how they'll run out of oxygen, Sonic manages to bust through the force field with several punches from his new mech suit. As soon as the gang exits the cave, Eggman, not expecting Sonic's new mech suit, sics the Mega Bot on them. The robot fires a missile at Sonic, but Sonic was protected by the mech suit's force field. It soon deployed wheels on its feet for faster mobility. Sonic, starting to like his new suit, dashes around the Mega Bot and delivers several punches and kicks, knocking it over, then destroying it with a laser, transformed from its right hand. Even Eggman admitted that was kind of cool. Suddenly, Sonic yanks Eggman out of the Egg Mobile and presses him against a boulder! (Whoa!) Eggman tries to convince Sonic that he wasn't really gonna leave them in the cave as he demonstrated how he was gonna call for HELP!!! Sonic then aimed the lasers right at Eggman! (Whoa, Whoa, Whoa!) Thankfully, Knuckles, Amy, & Sticks stopped Sonic before going too far. Sonic lets Eggman go and gets out of the mech suit, telling them he didn't know what came over him. Eggman than said how usually he'd use doing laundry as an excuse for retreating but in this case, he REALLY needed to do his laundry, as he escapes in his Egg Mobile. (I don't blame him... I nearly crapped my pants, too!) The next day, at Sonic's Shack, Tails Knuckles, Amy, & Sticks go to visit Sonic... and he's back in the mech suit... and has red eyes! When asked why he's in that suit again, Sonic says that it's better than anything Tails can invent. (Dang! Uncalled for...) What happens after is what I can best describe as the creators' version of the Spider-Man 3 montage sequence. (Note: I never seen Spidey 3, but the montage sequence is pretty infamous.) Starting with Sonic shoving villagers out of the way while on line at Meh Burger, ogling and flirting at Perci and her (now officially confirmed) twin sister, Staci while hanging out with Amy, and crushing a volleyball when it accidentally hits his suit. Later, Amy, Sticks, Tails, & Knuckles return to the cave in hopes of finding any kind of artifact that can give them some clue as to Sonic unusual and uncharacteristic behavior. Amy comments that she's the archeology expert so they shouldn't be embarrassed if they can't find anything... Afterwards, Knuckles finds buried treasure, Sticks finds dinosaur bones, and Tails finds the schematics for Sonic's mech suit. XD Soon after, back at Sonic's Shack, Tails explains that the mech suit houses a symbiote-type technology that slowly takes over its host, which explains Sonic's aggressive attitude as of late. (Dang! I mentioned Spider-Man 3 earlier with the montage, but I didn't think they go full on using the Marvel symbiote plot here!) Sonic couldn't believe it. Amy commented that the Ancients were highly advanced. Sonic then said that he couldn't believe that he considered them his friends and they just want to take the suit away from him! He then flies off in the mech suit, saying he'll find someone who gets him. He ends up in front of Eggman's base (Oh, boy...) knocking on his door... then punching a hole in it. When Eggman wondered what Sonic was doing here, he proposes a partnership. (Oh, jeez...) After Eggman had a silly fantasy sequence imagining him and Sonic doing random evil things together, he quickly agreed. The next day, at City Hall, Eggman demanded that Mayor Fink pay him a ransom of a ludicrous amount or else he'll lay waste to the village. Mayor Fink believes this to be nothing more than empty threats and says he'll regret it when Sonic gets here. Sonic, in the mech suit, lands nearby and demands the ransom be given to him within 24 hours or the village will feel his wrath. When Eggman tries to say that he's a part of this, too, Sonic smacks him away! As Sonic flies off, laughing evilly, Eggman follows him. Back at Eggman's lair, Eggman was praising how Sonic handled everything and how powerful that mech suit of his is, then said that some random generator was still on as he left to the other room. Eggman tells Orbot & Cubot that Sonic basically upstaged him. He then tries to come up with a way to take that mech suit for himself... only for Cubot to point out that Sonic's been listening the entire time! Sonic commented that he's no different than everyone else: trying to take his suit away from him! He stomps towards Eggman, only for Eggman to escape via pneumatic tube. As Eggman escaped in his Egg Mobile, Sonic flew off and chased him all the way back to the village! With Sonic's eyes glowing blood red, he rams into the Egg Mobile, causing it to go out of control before Sonic destroyed it with a laser blast, causing Eggman to fall out and hit the ground. Sonic then turned his attention to Mayor Fink, demanding the money. When told that it hasn't even been 24 hours, he reminded him that his administration never repealed the chili dog tax. Suddenly, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, & Sticks arrived to put a stop to this madness. Knuckles commented on how they can't just fight their friend like this, then gets knocked back by a punch from the mech suit. Knux soon found himself okay with this. Sticks tries to attack with a bo staff, Amy with her hammer, and Knux with his brute force, but all would be fruitless as the mech suit's shield prevented any damage. Tails manages to find the weak spot, only when the suit is charging up for a large blaster strike, for its shield will be shut down in order to power up its offense. Amy also adds that if Tails can get into the cockpit of the suit while its shields were down, he could remove the symbiote chip and free Sonic. Sticks, disappointed that she's not going to use her doomsday bunker today, decides to distract Sonic. She was able to dodge Sonic's attacks. Frustrated, Sonic charges up the suit for a maximum laser blast. Seeing the shields are down, Amy uses her hammer to launch Tails into the cockpit. He then manages to pry the chip out of the suit! The suit then powered down as Sonic shook his head, the green color returning in his eyes. Tails explained what happened as he tossed the chip to the ground an Amy obliterated it with her hammer. Sonic finally gets out of the mech suit, glad to have his feet back on the ground. As they walked away from the powered down suit, Sonic thought about how that suit may come in handy one day... and about those twins... and quickly saved face to avoid Amy's wrath. :D
Seriously, that episode... Like I said, it doesn't fall under the category of episodes that annoyed me or episodes that I couldn't enjoy as much, but... dang, did that give me the chills. Not since that particular episode of Sonic X have I felt such an uneasy feeling in my gut while watching. I mean, there were some funny and cool moments, but... hard to enjoy those when trying not to piss my pants...

it is VERY rare to see Sonic on the bad side, there was an episode of the SATAM cartoon where he had amnesia and Robotnik convinced him to attack Knothole, issue 39 of the Archie comic where he was robotocized, the 10 seconds he was Dark Supersonic in Sonic X, and I suppose the fact that he was willing to take on the title "slayer of kings" in Black Knight counts...
