TMI Tuesday yet again

by
Hey everyone, another TMI Tuesday has rolled around, so lets do it again XD I'll ask a question, and you ask me questions XD

What do you guys think of AU (alternate universe) fanfics? I've got a few ideas for some Sonic AUs, and two of them are partially written, (one of which is almost 20 pages, and I've been hanging onto for about a year at this point lol) and the other one is more recent XD It would be a more serious/gritty Sonadow fic.

In other news, I've watched a writer's story stream lately, and I was VERY impressed (and quite envious, I must admit) that they were able to complete 4 short stories in just two hours, and can complete multiple commissions in quick succession, with seemingly no downgrade in skill for speeding up. It's the kind of speed and skill that I would LOVE to obtain, and makes me wonder if it's me getting into my own head that slows down my progress and writing... overthinking things tends to be something that I do a lot, when I could just try a simpler way to keep the flow going, and not break my 'groove' in the middle of writing.

Oooh, AUs... I have such a love for them, because it really gets you into the writer's head. It's a unique challenge, because you have to consider how the characters' personalities would have to be shifted so they could cope in such a world, without completely rewriting them to the point where you just have OC lookalikes (though some are because of crazy event, like an AU Shadow who is dealing with aftermath of being possessed by Bill Cipher, very interesting lol). I find them interesting because I think "What made Author/ArtistXYZ decide to do this?" and stuff like that. A couple artists I follow on Picarto have so many crazy AUs and I just go nuts for them XD.

As for your commentary on the stream, while there is nothing wrong with trying new things to keep the flow for the sake of experimenting and bettering yourself, everyone writes at a different pace, so don't feel bad about your comparatively slower speed XD. I like how you really take the time to flesh things out in your fics, doing your best to provide character insight and exposition to the events going on rather than describing them in a hum-drum manner. You make them so life-like and a unique, sexy experience, and that's what counts in the end.

Now, my own question, same as last time, but new, and probably more difficult characters. :) What would fluster, and what would excite, Shadow, Espio, and... Mighty.

AUs are fics that have the potential for some really awesome stuff, and it has moments that usually have me go 'OMG, this author is fucking awesome' lmao X'D It's been a while since I've been on Fanfiction.net, so I've likely missed out on quite a few awesome stories that have come out since then ^^; I should try to find the time to get reading on that site again XD

Heh, thanks for the compliments ^u^ perhaps with enough practice and experimentation, I'll eventually be able to operate on that level of speed, but I'm sure it'll be a fair while XD

As for the question, that is indeed a tougher one than last time X'D

Shadow... I've seen his character portrayed in several different ways, so it's sorta hard to nail down something that would fluster him... especially since losing to Sonic in the games doesn't even seem to phase him too much lmao X'D I do sorta think that Shadow would get flustered if someone mimicked him; like, if Shadow was hanging around with Sonic and the group, and one of them teasingly did an impression of him, (say, Sonic messily styling his quills to match Shadow's, and then making a brooding and emo-esque monologue XD) I think it would make him get a little bit embarrassed X'D

Espio! He's a little bit easier actually X'D I think that he'd get flustered if he was trying to teach a character like Charmy how to be a ninja... I can see Charmy either completely misinterpreting Espio's teaching, and messing up on a grand scale, or Charmy just straight up ignoring the lesson, and getting easily distracted, which would make Espio get a flustered over the fact that he can't teach Charmy how to do it, despite all his skill XD

Mighty, that's a toughie... I've never actually read any of the comics, and he's far more prominent in those, but from what I can gather of his personality, he's sorta like a far more easygoing Knuckles, minus the Guardian duty XD? Similar to the others from last time, I can sorta imagine him getting flustered if someone just bluntly and straight up flirted with him XD Like, if he was moving aside something huge and heavy that was blocking a path, and someone let out a wolf whistle while he was doing it, I can imagine he'd get quite the blush (that would probably work on Knux too X'D)... gahhh, I've gotta try writing a SonMighty fic at some point X'D

Those are all pretty cute ideas! I agree, Shadow doesn't seem the type to get embarrassed easily, but that is something I can see being a thing. And the idea of Mighty blushing if someone whistles at him is just too damn cute XD. Espio I find somewhat like Shadow, at least in the regard of not getting embarrassed easily (though more easily than Shadow, for sure, as he does have the usual teenage tendencies.)

Very nice ideas. Though you forgot to mention what you think would excite them X'D.

Oh, whoops ^^; I did indeed lmao X'D

For Shadow, (depending on how he's characterized; I've seen some people write him as kinda smug, and some write him as being more stoic) I think he'd be excited by competition; he's the Ultimate Lifeform, so he's technically 'superior' to other Mobians, and I think that testing his strength against someone who can rival him in those aspects would excite him a lot XD For example, Sonic can do almost everything that Shadow can do, which is something used as an attraction point in a lot of Sonadow stuff. And for a character like Knuckles, I think if he and Shadow got into a fight, and Knuckles got a good grip on Shadow and just was able to manhandle him because he's far physically stronger than Shadow is, I think that would probably turn Shadow on a little bit x'D

Espio... he's a bit of an enigma when it comes to thinking of what could turn him on XD He's pretty often paired with Vector in fics, so I kinda think he might be attracted to characters who are sorta his opposite in temperament? Espio is very cool and collected, and Vector is definitely not XD In fact, a character like Sonic or Knuckles might be attractive to Espio, because he sorta would balance them both out too in terms of personality; Knuckles is a hothead, while Espio is more calm minded, and Sonic is quite confident to the point of sometimes being TOO confident, while Espio might be more cautious XD Of course, that's technically not answering about what would 'excite' him x'D... hmm... I kinda imagine someone being physically flexible might turn him on XD I can kinda see Espio as someone who would be into kinky sex with lots of yoga-esque positions, and someone who can be bendy in all those ways could probably get his engine running XD

Mighty I think would be kinda excited by someone toying with his ears; they kinda look like they'd be pretty sensitive, and I can imagine him getting all red in the face if someone kinda trailed a finger along one, or nibbled at it XD

XD it's fine. And those are really nice! I have to agree with all those, especially that adorable idea with Mighty and his ears. Espio I can see being attracted to Sonic for much the same reasons, but also because of the hedgehog's kind and protective nature. Love the idea of Shadow getting turned on by a challenge XD.

I agree with midnight on the issue of workflow. I'd be willing to bet your stories are a lot more thoughtful and developed with all the time and care you typically put into them. The way you work is why I hired you, and I personally wouldn't trade it away. I'm actually kind of jealous at this point that you've taken the initiative to accept payment for your work because that looks like a lot of fun and something I could do. I just haven't tried it at all.

Sometimes I like AU a lot; it can be really fun to see familiar characters in unfamiliar yet believable settings and situations. When it works, it's a commendable effort. I'd even consider the story you're writing for me to be AU in a way because of the self-indulgent liberties taken with the characters' appearances, even if it doesn't change much besides making the smut more relatable and probably a little easier to write. When it ticks me off (and this applies to regular old fanfiction too) is when there's little to no semblance of who the characters originally are, or even the setting to which they belong. At that point, you're essentially just borrowing names and appearances and tacking them onto characters who would be more interesting as an original idea.

"Instead of writing about how my friends Jim and Stephanie from school learned to accept each other's differences in an effort to appease me, their mutual friend, I made it into an AU Final Fantasy fic about the same thing except Steiner and Zidane are inexplicably going to school together in a world just like our own, and I get to be Garnet."

My question is if you've ever been so invested in something for whatever reason that it got into your head, and you either had vivid dreams about it, or for a split second thought to yourself in real life in full seriousness how to solve a problem you were facing, and resorted to the logic of whatever fiction you were engaged in.

Like once I read a bunch of Dresden Files in sequence and had dreams of being an apprentice wizard, or another time when I was all over Harry Potter, I'd seriously consider what kind of magic spell to use to solve a problem before catching myself and remembering that's not a thing people can do. I also think I've played so much THPS at this point that whenever I'm walking around or driving in a car, I'm looking at the terrain to figure out how to string combos together. My friend also played a bunch of Left 4 Dead when it came out, and started seeing outlines of human figures moving on the walls after being up for over 24 hours playing it.

My two worst offenses have to do with cars, though. First I was at my friend's place playing Stuntman literally all day for two days. After that, when I was in the car with my parents, I seriously wondered why they weren't driving closer to other cars and telephone poles and stuff to keep their combo string. The other time was when I played Grand Theft Auto 3 and nothing else for like two weeks, and I could identify cars on the street in real life and equate them to cars in the game, and for just a macrosecond would weigh my options, considering which one to take.

Thanks for the compliments, I'm flattered XD To be honest, I sorta never imagined I'd take commissions (didn't think I was skilled enough lol), but multiple friends of mine told me that I was good enough to do it, and then I had someone inquire about one in a PM on FA, which kinda boosted my confidence enough to go for it XD It's definitely fun, but I think you're probably a rare breed of commissioner X'D most of the story requests I'd get before, were all either REALLY strange, or just had like no descriptions at all of what they wanted beyond the pairings, which were usually either for fandoms I knew nothing about in the best case, or fandoms I disliked in the worst cases lol XD I've never gotten someone who was practically MORE detailed than I try to be in commission notes, and I write summaries and descriptions long enough to make some writers tell me that I practically just wrote the whole story myself lmao X'D

Yeah, AU has such cool possibilities for greatness, but then I've definitely seen a few like the one you just mentioned x'D Highschool AUs are probably the most common one, and I'll admit that they can be a guilty pleasure if done well, but usually they are WAAAYYY OOC, which always makes me kinda cringe X'D Heh, yeah the commission is sorta pseudo-AU in a way, with the clothes and a little of their physicality, but it's not TOO far off XD

Oooh, interesting question!

In a funny example, and it wasn't so much me being serious, as me trying to cope with incompetence on the job, was my manager complaining about some insignificant crap that didn't actually matter (he runs the place stupidly and stresses everyone out lol) I imagined in mid-complaint, that a Renegade interrupt from Mass Effect popped up, and I'd say "I've had enough of your micro management" *PUNCH IN THE FACE* lmao X'D

I can't really recall any moments when I was so invested that I resorted to the logic of that fiction though, beyond reflexively trying to press a shoulder button on devices that didn't have shoulder buttons on occasion XD I've had a few dreams of me in game scenarios though, but they tend to blur together somewhat ^^;

If you haven't sworn absolute confidentiality, do you have any amusing commissioner horror stories?
bbbuuu

Heh, you're technically only the second person who has commissioned me, but before I opened commissions, I'd get some really strange requests XD I haven't sworn any confidentiality, but I won't name names XD

I don't think this person is watching me on IB, so I doubt they'll read this ever, but there is a guy on FA who I did a fic/art trade with, who asked for the WEIRDEST fucking thing ever, and I honestly thought he was joking at first lmao... I have the fic posted on my FA, and honestly I felt like I was lowering my skill level to write this story ^^;... not only was the 'plot' basically non-existent, but he had me write the characters in such a way that I felt like an asshole, because I was making a character who I quite like, into a total bimbo >.>... so on top of the strangest fetish I've ever written, the plot sucked and the characterization was borderline insulting, but after I wrote that story, he kept on hitting me up to write him MORE weird shit of the same caliber, and even tried to ask if I'd write a fic for a 'friend' of his, that featured the same characters, but an OC-ified version of them, that are clearly thinly veiled versions of the person himself lol, which really made me think that this person was an underage teen who was angling for free fap material lol... I actually went on a journal rant about this guy lmao https://inkbunny.net/journalview.php?id=222725

I've had people also ask me for fics with outrageous plots that made me go o_O when I saw it... like this suggestion I received here 'You should do one where Slippy goes go a new yet secluded planet called Lusttopia and had a pleasurable spa session there.' lmao... I'm like lolwut?

I've also had people request stuff, where they just list two character names, and say 'make it cute'... only problem is, I DON'T KNOW THOSE CHARACTERS, or even what Fandom they're from in some cases lmao x'D... no detail, no plot summary or synopsis, just 'Character A fucking Character B'... that isn't how a writing request works lmao X'D

sorry i'm literally never online and this doesn't even actually answer your question but???

to help with writer's block: make it a habit to JUST. WRITE. don't wait for the mood, the inspiration, the ~Time~ to come; just commit to writing a certain number of words per day, even if they're actual shit. that way, when you ARE in the Mood, you have some material to work off of, and your shit gets done! you also just get better at writing in general, because writing is a skill, and skills improve with practice!
