Final Fantasy 12 question

I've been trying to get back into the game again. I never did finish it. To help keep my interest this time, I'm playing along to a video walkthrough. There's no commentary in this series, and I've noticed the player has been ignoring every item in certain areas. He collected items he found in the area where you make the sun stone, and I think in the sewers as well, (every RPG needs a sewer area, right?) but every other area he seems to be purposefully avoiding collecting any of the items on the ground. Any idea why this is?

I think it might have something to do with the Zodiac Spear...

hmm, I just looked that up, and I don't think that's it, though I did screw my chances at getting it already

it could just be a person ignoring them just because, or miss information about the spear. im actually needing to get a ps2 so i can play it myself again now that i found my disc XD

ooh but looks like I didn't screw my chances after all. I didn't notice one of the forbidden chests I thought I had opened. yay

My idea is what Sarakha said because based on the faulty knowlege I remember from reading about the spear; it involved a lot of not looting any items. But I say it is much easier to get that... then an Item called the "Black Hood" in FF15, Not so much hate as disdain for 'Precision Platforming' in 3d games.

Platforming in a final fantasy game? That sounds like a disaster.

Yep , there is a Side dungeon in 15 with a lot of jumping about at least Zero monsters and no friends to body block you. Oh and REALLY dark! Well , can't exactly call it side dungeon. It is a 'semi-hidden' End game dungeon. I'm not sure how far I went into it before I just said another day. But I'd say at least half way and while there is a bit of 'low end jumping puzzles' for side loot that for the most part not that useful before you ever get to the dungeon ; the dungeon isn't for everyone and... expect to hear a lot of "Cake, baby."

Yeah, I'm not going for the Spear, even then there are specific chests you can't open. Plus, there's a miniscule chance you'll get the spear anyway.

I might try for it at least once, that is if I make it that far without getting bored.

You're totally fine picking up enemy loot and being a total klepto, it's just a few oddly specific chests you can't touch.

Actually the spear located in the Necrohol of Nabudis has a guaranteed chance of containing the Zodiac Spear, or at least close enough. I think theres like a 2% chance of it being something else. But if you skip over the small number of correct chests, you end up with the strongest weapon in the game, basically guaranteed.

It's my first time playing through, and I'm not even using spears.

Okie doke. I just didn't want any more misinformation about the spear to be out there than there already is. ^^

Like was stated before, it could be misinformation regarding the Zodiac Spear, or it could just be as simple as he doesn't feel like he needs the vendor trash for anything.
Either way, I love that game and I'm really hoping the remaster gets a PC port. <3
