PAX review

Now I know that the event is still going on, and I was thinking about buying another day, but after the events of yesterday I just said one day is enough.

So, what did I do yesterday?

Well I waited 2 hours in line to get in, not to mention that downpour that came with it on the very last hour ( good thing I brought my umbrella).  But I got in and the first thing I went to was Sonic Mania, which played like a beefed-up version of Sonic CD.  So after the Sonic demo I saw next door to StarBreeze, because they had their little but then I wanted to know why and it was for one particular game.  I don't remember the name of the game, I just remember there was an FPS, in an alt version of World War II.

After an update on Discord, I went to the Indy booth area just see if I can find Ska Studio's.  They weren't there but I did find Team Meat, and what two seem to be a brand new Super Meat Boy game.  Problem was the game wasn't set up, so I decide to come back around.  So I wonder the whole little bit to see what games were on offer, and decided to sit down and eat because two hours standing is not very good on your back. I brought my own lunch so I wouldn't have to spend extra for the restaurants are around the area, probably had their own menus for the event.

So after lunch, I went back in and looked around the hall a bit.  I noticed that there were a lot more booths that where there to sell merchandise, companies that were showing off games weren't giving out as much free swag as they used to, then again I haven't been the packs in over 5 years so I guess a lot has changed.  So after around the floor but I decided to go upstairs, for i remembered last time I went they had booths up there.  And they did.

Almost all of the schools they were promoting for game design we're up there, which was great.  Because I wanted to know if they actually had financial aid, that I could use it turns out I can.  The prerequisites is calculus however, so we'll see how that goes.  And nearly the rest of the area was pretty much into games, both digital and tabletop, everything else was just merchandise again.

The one company I was surprised to see you up there was Nintendo, so I went in and I found Shantae Half Genie Half Hero on demo, so I waited in line.  One guy who was next to the line had made a comment about my shirt, ask me if I went to Sonic media which I did, explain they were giving away free USB sticks for people who score a hundred and fifty rings at the end of the stage, so then I was like 'oh s*** I have to go back'.

Something no one knows about Nintendo was there was no physical copies of games being shown there, everything was all digital or handheld.  But finally I got to Shante, and after looking over people's shoulders on how they actually went through the demo, i had a very clear idea how to beat it, so I beat it and I got a pin.

After I was done with that I made a quick update on Discord, and went back downstairs to fulfill some requests.  I went looking for cuphead, but it wasn't there; I asked Tekken 7 if there was a open beta for people and they said no; and I went to Microsoft to play Battlefield 1.  And I gotta ask, how the hell do you play an FPS with a controller?  My cursor was everywhere except where I wanted to shoot, the only way I was able to get any kills was me being in a stationary tank not understanding how the hell to get out of it and just shooting everyone who came in.

After another update on Discord, I went looking for Ska, which I eventually found; not before buying a Persona 3 t-shirt, because I need some sort of swag.  So I ended up talking to him, talking about the port to the Vita for the Salt and Sanctuary game,  seeing if he's bringing his older games to PC; and I even got a  custom made button from the artist of all of his games.

After that, I went to the classic console area.  I brought my Genesis game Mazin Saga, so I rented out of 32x and play the game.  I had about 40 minutes to play on there, and within that time I finished the first stage of the final Zone. Then I went back on the floor to see if there was anything interesting to tell people, which there was.  PlayStation VR was showing off two brand new games, one was a brand new Rez, the other was a brand-new Psychonauts.

After another update with Discord, I didn't have much time left to look around on the floor.  So I took out my tablet and just type down the names of all the indie games that I didn't have time to cover.  I'll list that later.

And at the final time I just went to THQnortique and played all their games.  I played Spellbound 2, which kind of reminded me of Pillars of Eternity but will have more features than that such as Town building and party leveling.  I play The Guild 3, I had a hard time understanding what the guy was saying because of the trailers playing in the background, but what I can tell is that it has new features and some old features removed from Guild 2.  They also had Xermintide on showing, but I already knew about that game.  Finally I played Elex, a third person action RPG, and as I found out was made by the same guys who have made Risen, and ok the sequels weren't that good, but the first one was awesome. And then there was The Drawfs, but unfortunately there was only 3 minutes left for the exhibition Hall, so I just had the developer explain the game to me; and he told me that it was a squad-based isometric RPG that was based on a novel.

So after the exhibition hall close, I decided to go to the PC free play area, and got about 40 minutes of playing Killing Floor 2, which was good fun.  I went to the console area to play the other game that I brought, Deadly Creatures; and I got to chapter three before i had to quit.  Then I was too tired to do anything else, so I just left.

So, here are those indie games that were there.

Thanks, and you will be happy to know that S&S is still coming to the Vita, and he will be porting his older titles to PC afterwards.
