TMI Tue-No Wait Wednesday

I feel like chatting a bit with you all, so I thought I'd post a late TMI journal. Feel free to ask me about hobbies, art, business, characters, projects, daily life; pretty much anything. If it's something too personal for my comfort I'll simply say so, no harm done.

What got you interested in the furry fandom?

I've always been a huge fan of animal characters since I was a little kid, so it was a natural progression for me. Werewolves and dragons were my obsession as a child.

Cool, dragons are one of my favorite mythological creatures, what got you interested in art?

I've always been into drawing since I can remember being alive. My parents both liked to draw, so I'm sure that helped. The thing that made me want to keep drawing was when my aunt praised my chalk drawing of a dinosaur. I decided that I super loved to be praised, and if drawing got me praised, I would keep doing it, ha ha. My motivations have changed since then, but that was the first one!

Nice and it's good to hear you were being praised and supported back then as well as now, I'm not a drawer myself so I always wonder what inspires those who do.

How funny! I actually drew her just two days ago on a whim, along with the chipmunk girl I made to go with her. https://gyazo.com/efd7b8c0e0c66ec7f043659a369c35c3

I plan on drawing more of her tonight, I'm in the mood for cute loli characters.

To wah, or not to wah, that is the question
Whether 'tis nobler in the fandom to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous drama
Or to take arms against a sea of fanboys
And by opposing end them. To draw, to stream--

...anyway.

Do you have a day job, or is art your full time career?

That was beautiful. A+, you did a good.

Art is my full time job. I've been doing it for 2 years now, so I'm just starting to settle in to how I work and figuring things out better.

Favorite cartoon? Can be show or film.

That's a tough one! My favourite cartoon right now is 'Sarah & Duck', I think.

My favourite film is a tie between 'Cabin in the Woods' and 'Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart'.

What's next after Twincest wraps up, as far as comic projects?  Got any big plans?

Well, I've been writing more and more for my big horror/sexy Library world, but that's a big undertaking that I'm not sure if I want to launch into next or what. I also have a mini-comic planned featuring Lammy, probably just 15 pages, so that's the most likely candidate for next project.

This might sounds kinda odd coming from a gal with a gallery full of cub stuff herself, and I wouldn't be surprised if it has already been asked countless times. But, what, for you, is the appeal of cubs, either generally or in naughty situations? Or do you just draw 'em cause that's something that sells?

If someone went back in time and told your younger self, who had just stated taking a serious interest in art, that one day you'd be making money drawing naked animal people, what do you think that they'd think?

What are your favorite things to draw when you're just drawing for yourself?

For me, I like cub mostly on a... superficial level? Like if a character looked young, but acted like an adult and their canonical age was like 45 or something, it wouldn't deter me. I like cub for the inherent size play involved with a small body, for their usually cute looks, because they're easier to draw since they have simpler anatomy, and a little dash of "because it sells". I would draw it even if it didn't, though. The only time age is a factor for me is when I'm drawing clean cub art, because I enjoy depicting the way young characters look at the world with wonder and love. That might carry over into adult art if I wanted to draw a sort of self-discovery pic, or some innocent accidental-nudity, etc.

If someone told my younger self that, I think they'd take it in stride, honestly. I've been drawing, and drawing animals, since day 1, and wrote my first fanfiction before I even knew what a computer was, in a little spiral notebook, about the werewolf characters from a Goosebumps novel.

When I'm just drawing for myself, I think my favourite things to draw are intense emotions. I really enjoy drawing deeply pained expressions, or scenes that are themed from corner to corner with absolute peace and calm. I put on music that matches the emotion I'm trying to convey, and I block out the world.

The answer you gave concerning cub art seems to be the one I get most often. That is, it's the cute factor that does it for people, not the actual age. I tend to lean that way myself. I love the cub aesthetic, but it doesn't really matter to me what their real age is, or if they act like a cub or and adult. I guess age is kind of a factor when it comes to some of my characters, since I have a mother/daughter pair, and the daughter is only meant to be 12. But in terms of wisdom and sexuality, she acts as an adult way beyond her years most of the time, and I wouldn't enjoy her any less if she was an adult in a childlike body.

I do love kids as kids, though, and some of the clean cub art you've done, and the early awakenings stuff is simply adorable. But I enjoy that more for the emotional side of things than for the sexual, and for the cute factor that it brings to things.

I never read any of the Goosebumps stuff. I think I was a little too old for that. But I've loved animal characters for as long as I can remember, too, and while I've never been much good at stories or art, I've always loved the idea of them and seeing what people do with them. I think that's pretty true for a lot of people here, so far as I've discovered at least.

You do an incredible job with emotions in your art. To be honest, I love your Ms. Spixy stuff because of the intensity of emotion. The actual theme and content are kind of secondary in a way. For me, it doesn't matter if a picture is sexual or clean, or if it deals with a happy theme or a sad one, the main thing is if it makes me feel something and makes me connect with the characters on some level. That's one of the many reasons why I love your work so much, because you do it so well!

Thanks so much for answering!
