Problems with Paint Tool Sai

Recently when I've tried using Paint Tool Sai, for whatever reason it is severely laggy. Anytime I do anything (draw a line, paint a stroke of color, erase something, ect) it takes several seconds before recognizing the command and carrying it out. I'll, for example, draw a line, remove my pen from the tablet, and the watch as the line struggles to slug itself across the page

This has happened before, and usually all I had to do was unplug the tablet and plug it back in, or go into my Services tab and restart the tablet driver. That isn't working now, though, and I've tried various other things to try and help. I've deleted over half of the files on my computer to increase storage space, gotten rid of all the computer's cookies, installed a new virus protection system that also cleans up any residue junking your computer, and fragmented the whole thing several time. Nothing has gotten rod of the problem

the only way I was able to meet my recent deadline for a picture was because I was able to borrow another laptop. I can't keep doing that, though, and need to figure something out. I'm in need of a new computer anyway and considered getting one, but I can't afford it. My car is on the fritz too, and that needs fixing first, so I'd really like to get SAI working pronto so I don't fall any further behind on my art

If anybody has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated

(Also, the version of SAI I have was given to me by a friend. So, I can't just insert a disc and reinstall it, and even if I did I'd lose all my brushes)

Maybe this link: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=2012101620...
may be of help.
It certainly solved the problem for me.
Though I'd actually just try a driver update for your tablet first. That may already be enough.

I actually had done everything it asked beforehand based on another thing I had read. I'm not sure how to update the driver, it brings a thing up asking  me to, and when I try it says it can't

Well, the easiest way would be to look for an up-to-date driver on the website of the company that produced your tablet.
Most companies have their newest drivers there ready for download.
Good luck.

If the OS was recently upgraded it might not be communicating well.

It could also be hardware (memory).  Computers like people do get old.  If it's a "new" machine its drivers my not be up to snuff with the OS.

It's as far as my knowledge goes.😶

How can you turn your phone/tablet into your laptop/PC second screen?

The only thing I can suggest is turning down the smoothing setting. The higher the smoothing, the more it lags behind usually. I don't know why it would just suddenly start doing it, if it never did before, but you can try turning it down and see.
