R.I.P Robin Williams

I consider myself to have a way with words, yet right now, I honestly have none that feel adequate. I'll do my best, anyway.

People can say what they want about Robin Williams, but his movies have never failed to make me smile. I still remember seeing Mrs. Doubtfire for the first time. That movie was so dumb, but so funny and entertaining all the same.

It might seem hard to believe that someone who played such comical roles was suffering from depression for most of his life; even harder to believe he killed himself, as seems to have happened now. But he was, there is no doubt about that, because depression and other such afflictions can get you no matter what your circumstances are, sometimes caused by something as simple as a chemical imbalance in your brain. That is a fact, and it fucking sucks, but it's a fact.

Much worse than this, however, is how some people react to it. He's been dead for a few hours, he's not even in the ground yet, and already so-called "Social Justice Warriors" are saying he had no reason to be depressed and to kill himself because he was white and rich (and also male). Fucking really, people? Are you really that shallow? I have no idea what world you live in, but being white does not automatically make your life all sunshine and happiness all the time, nor does being rich. If you believe it does, or if you believe that people have no right to be unhappy just because someone else has it worse, then you are scum who does not even deserve to breathe the same air as the rest of us. A person died.

And yes, people die all the time, he was not somehow 'more' important because he was famous, but neither was he less important. He had friends and family, people who just lost something they can never replace. Robin Williams, and those he left behind, deserve the same respect as everyone else, no matter what ethnicity, social class, religion, sexuality or gender they may be. Get your heads out of your asses and realize that already.
