If you're not already aware of the current issue with the FCC and Net Neutrality, the short version is this: Broadband is a public utility, and like the airwaves, owned by the people. The FCC exists to regulate monied interests in these things, and keep these critically important avenues of communication open to the public. The current FCC head is a long-time corporate lobbyist who's finally gotten into a position to enact rules that allow ISPs to divide the internet into 'fast lanes and slow lanes' essentially letting ISPs slow down or block access to certain sites or users to give preferred partners (other companies that have paid them huge sums of money) faster and better access speeds.
If you don't understand how this is incredibly bad, google it yourself.
This just happened. It's been building for a while, and people have been opposing it, but corporate interests don't give a fuck. It can still be reversed if enough people get up and yell about it. There are many things you can do more active and significant than just signing a petition, but there is nothing easier, simpler, less involved, than clicking the above link and signing the damn thing - and as cynical and defeatist as this generation is, the fact of the matter is that these big petition campaigns DO have an actual effect and impact if the numbers are high enough. Even if it's just kicking the issue down the road a bit, that's still worth the complete non-effort of *click*.
This journal isn't going to be a platform for argument or debate, simply pointing people to this particular petition and encouraging anyone so inclined to seek out more information for yourself, sign any other petitions for this you find, and take more active steps to fight this sort of crap if you are awesome enough to want to do more than just sign a petition.
If you are too apathetic to take any action to oppose this crap, but infuriatingly have the time and energy to oppose people trying to oppose it FOR you, do it in your own journal cuz I'm just going to delete your shit.
