Interested in a commission

Recently, I have received many messages regarding commissions. Currently I am not taking any commissions (sorry!), but I am little curious how this system runs since it is never common in Japan.

My friend did some research into finding out how it works, (e.g. Character sheets, Paypal payment, and all sorts) but unable to find out what is the average price rate for it. The price range on this market is truly diverse. Some ask only $5, and another asks $100, or even more.

So question is… what is the regular price range, and moreover, how much do I worse? Well, I do not draw for money, but this is surely one of the compelling questions to ask. It would be really helpful if you can tell me on comment what you think. And be honest! … Though I could be flattered if you say it's worth million dollars!

I think for your art, $20-25 for the colored sketches you upload normally for a single character seems a good rate.
For more detailed line art and color, I believe $40-50 is a good price range for a single character.
For more than one character, maybe $10 per additional character in colored sketches and $20 per additional characters in a detailed image is a fair price as well.

値段は普通に自分で決めますが、イラストレータの「有名さ」にもよります。一般的に有名な人のほうが値段が高いです（commissionの依頼が多いからです）。

後は、スキル、絵を描くために掛かりそうな時間とか含めて値段を設定した方がいいと思います。norinoriの場合は、例えばとしてこういうものならば、40ドールから50ドールの間で売れそうです。背景ついてるやつなら、60ドール以上でも売れると思います。

I think you can make a fair amount on commissions. It really depends on personal preference and where you feel you're skill lies at. Personally I feel you can easily charge $40 ~ $50 for a single character done in color. Depending on the complexity you can easily ask for more.
