They're happening more and more often to me... :(

Probably panic...not helpful I know.

Yeah, screaming whenever I'm touched is remarkably unpleasant for both parties involved. Is this PTSD?

Yeah, I tried that. Someone who lives with me is having identical symptoms to me. It's a 2 room place. My feet are cracked, bleeding, blistered and infected yet I must pace. Argh... and I can't sleep. Fuck, fuck, fuck my life.

Do you both have a history of this sort of mental disruptions?

It is plausible you have a contaminant in the household.

Yes I do and there is black mold in the house. Does that offer some clarification?

I don't know that our diagnoses are at all correct, but I DO know this has been present my entire life and comes and goes depending on how much pressure is on me or how badly I'm being treated. I have a rich and dark history of abuse by people who have used me and weren't my real friends too because I'm kind of stupid and gullible. I am not a clever pony.

Stuff like death threats from 4chan and reddit make me incredibly nervous to go outside to mess with my fish in my backyard or my spider. :( :( :(

Shitposters on the internet (trolls on the internet!? I KNOW RIGHT!?) well some of them are IRL too. I love the woman who screamed at me when I had blistered torn up feet and took my shoes off or the black guy who called me a bitch. I TOTALLY RETURN THE SENTIMENT, TRULY!

Get that mold checked out, spores can do the craziest shit to you.

"Extreme exposure to very high levels of mycotoxins can lead to neurological problems and in some cases death; fortunately, such exposures rarely to never occur in normal exposure scenarios, even in residences with serious mold problems"
http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mold_health_issues#Mycot...

Better yet, get rid of it through chemicals and try to find the cause of the mold and fix that too.

Other than that, try talking to a doctor, it could be something as simple as your body not producing enough of a needed chemical, or too much of another. Both simple fixes but still annoying if untreated.

Take chlortabs (clortrimeton tablets... sorry, can't spell it).

They have a natural indrediant that can take off the edge of panic attacks.

Barring that, look into thing that are causing possible allergic reactions and make sure you're getting deep sleep.

However, during a panic attack, try to do something that is "safe" and familiar.

I have chronic panic attacks so I know this pain.

Thanks. Yeah, safe, familiar so pipe cleaner weaving a ball might work.

when you do, make sure that you're not focusing too hard on it, that seems to start up a lot of panic attacks is when you focus really hard on something, or focus on it for a long time. Taking a breather and letting your mind blank helps, and maybe just fiddling with pipecleaners without an end goal would be good.

I find concentrating on breathing from the diaphragm helps... I put all my focus on breathing correctly and a lot of times the anxiety fades away

I force myself to hyperventillate. The extra oxygen helps to let you assert your logic and force down the panic.

Not had a panic attack in years but I get anxiety attacks often. If its real bad, I get up and move to another area. Like if indoors, I go outside. The above suggestions are good too. Not knowing the full situation, thats all I can give. Hope you get feeling better soon.

I use to get panic attacks. I'd acknowledge it was just a panic attack and then start reading comic books to take my mind off it. Once the initial panic subsided I'd go for a walk, take some Valerian root, have a nap, and wake up anxiety free.

Every panic attack seems different but they're really all the same.

go to a psychologist tell him/her you're having panic attacks, they'll either send you to a psychiatrist to give you happy candy, or will tell you of ways to vent or deal with the panic attacks, having a close buddy that cares about you and understands your condition is also important, I have my own panic buddy who is a co-worker I get along with very nicely, (he knows about the condition and is always avaliable 24/7 in case I have a really strong attack.  The most important part is to get yourself checked first, It's a worthwhile investment.  My psychologist told me that a good way of relieving stress is to find a hobby and vent through it, and my hobby is art, so art is also a therapy for my stress related problems.

What I would do when I had my panic attacks was take something and describe it out loud in excruciating detail. Forcing myself to focus on all the small nuances of of whatever it was helped me to take my mind off the panic attacks and they would subside pretty quickly.

My panic attacks dont last very long and are infrequent, but when I do get them, I lay down, take deep breaths, and try not to move until they pass.

I'd imagine sitting down, breathing slowly and thinking calm thoughts would help, but I've never had one so I'm not sure. Hope you can find a way to cope with them. =x

I usually get panic attacks while I'm at work because too many people are talking at the same time during a high stress situation. So, I just go to the nearest quiet place for about 5 minutes, breathe deeply a few times, and try to regain my composure. It should allow your thoughts to stop racing and your stress level to decrease.

Accept that you're having a panic attack, try to identify the source of panic if you can, take steps to counteract the source of panic if you can, and don't fight it. Let it take it's course. Fighting it will just make it worse. It's kind of zen in an odd, counter-intuitive way, but that's what my therapist tells me to do.
ButtercupSaiyan

Yeah, I think you're right. Identify the source of the problem, then conquer it like an RPG monster in a battle, slay it and calm down.
Gobby
Sort of. You can't really conquer it, in the traditional sense, as struggling just makes it worse. It's kind of like a Chinese finger trap; the more you try to pull yourself out, the worse you get stuck. All you can really do is wait for it to die down and try not to renew its subscription.

Gobby has the right idea.  When my panic attacks started to hit,  I used to cry for hours.  Once I figured out what I was having, I allowed myself to cry.  I found in that time that soft textures helped.  A nice soft blanket, a plushy or two and just cuddle.  Have your favorite cartoons/music playing in the background and just focus on that.  That helped me.

What does wonders for me when I have a lot of stress or I start to get nervous is I tend to use a hang grip that I own that helps relief stress and works better then just a general hand ball (http://tinyurl.com/c7xc394) also it's fairly cheep. If you start to use it when you get nevious or start to feel a lot of stress it, just start alternating hands and just squeeze it. It helps a lot for me, thou I'm also a little bit of a fitness junky.

Boot up one of the Zero (Fatal Frame) games and play that for a bit.

No, I'm not fucking with you. They're very good at being unnerving, much more so than Silent Hill or similar games. If you're /already/ experiencing symptoms of panic and anxiety with a real-world source, you can effectively cancel it out with an artificially induced source of similar feelings. Your brain bundles it all together into one big neat package, but as a nice byproduct of human psychology, as the game is your focus, your brain associates that bundle with a fictional source, allowing you to "switch off" to it by moving to a "safe" area in the game, or moving on to another, completely safe and pleasant type of game.

This is not a permanent solution to the problem nor is it, obviously, always economical (or possible to undertake). It does work, however.

Well, I can't say most of my methods would be very effective.  As I have a fairly fluid time schedule, I usually just let my anxiety run it's course.  I use a lot of associative conditioning to deal with my strange psychology.  For instance, pretty much the only thing I do in bed is sleep.  If I don't feel like I'll fall asleep in 15 minutes, I get up and do something else.   I still suffer from occasional insomnia, but it bothers me much less than it used to.  There are certain sounds or sensations that you can program yourself to associate with different emotional or biological states.

There even some hypnotic techniques that you could probably try.

Honestly, if you don't feel like you could fall asleep, even after walking enough to injure your feet, there's probably something wrong with your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.  Your Fight or Flight isn't letting your Eat Sleep and Breed mechanisms take over.  I've almost never had that occur where heavy physical activity didn't remedy it, and if physical activity isn't helping you, then you might need to see a doctor about it before you crash and burn.

Also, it's just a hunch, but I think this may be related: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxytocin

It's been reccomended to get a professional cleaning service for black mold, but you can sometimes treat it yourself.  Gloves, breathing mask, and pure bleach with paper towels on that black mold blotting it up as best you can.  Make sure the windows are open and fans going to air out the place.  Repeating as necessary till you're sure it's gone.  Then about once a week for abit to make sure it is gone.

Definately agree on consulting a doctor, perhaps get some lessons on breath control meditation I've found it helps.

If you can find some way to dehumidify your home, that could retard the mold growth in the future, too.  I had a home years ago, it basically was built on a swamp, and had a ton of mold.

Window open, calm music in the background, laying on the bed, eyes closed. Always works for me. Of course, if a quiet room isn't achievable, use headphones =)

I usually pick pan-pipes for my music when I need to calm down or when I can't sleep. Dunno why, but it works for me. I blame playing for long hours in Kolima Forest when I was playing the original Golden Sun on GBA (I kept getting lost in it), with headphones on. Dunno if that was the actual reason for pan-pipes having such an effect on me, but I like to think so =)

I usually stop what I'm doing, and go out side and take deep breaths of fresh air.
Ask your doctor about Citalopram, it's an anti-depressant, but it's main focus is on anxiety (which is usually clumped in with depression, which is why it's a duel-purpose pill). It's a prescription medication, and I've found it to work wonderfully after I found my good working dose size. Give it a chance when you start though, it takes a few weeks for it to start working, and eases into helping. Take it as prescribed for a couple months or more, and get back to me.

also, don't just stop using it if you're feeling fine and don't think you need it anymore. Keep taking it because there's residual effects that linger for a while while you're not taking it, so you could think your fine but it's what's left working.
ShadowsInc

PS, also, all of my advice has been for Anxiety attacks, not as much Panic attacks, (But can still work either way), since what you get might not be panic related, but involuntary and without much cause like a anxiety attack is.

I'm not a doctor, but you should probably seek medical help.

I think it's a safe bet that none of us here are Doctors. lol

You could also be mistaking the symptoms of something more serious for a panic attack. Like diverticulitis; which shares a lot of the common symptoms.

I have sought medical help already and I've fallen through the cracks in the system right now, you know? Being transgender doesn't help! I've had professionals REFUSE to treat me ... for ... being a girl dressing up like a boy? Fucking really?

>transgender

I had no idea. But then again it's not my business. But you said girl as a boy? That's kind of hot. lol

Sorry. lol

Have you tried homeopathic medicine? I take Apple Cider Vinegar for my arthritis, and it has sooooo many other uses.

I'm a bad example, LOL...what @Scheknul did to me almost (literally) killed me.

But still. Having a good recovery base, family and friends, a nice place to sleep where you're guaranteed to be safe.... Watchers when you get reeaallly bad (like when someone takes drugs, it's best to have a "sitter" when you're impaired).... It's always best to relax, bury yourself in blankets, and just be calm. c:

*Snuggles* It's gonna be all right.
