Multiprotocol chat client

Since I started posting on InkBunny the other day (after lurking for the better part of a year), I've started making more furry friends. Which feels me with squee and joy and happiness! I spent a long time as a very unhappy husky, so to have people PM me and say, "Hey. Wanna be friends?" and offer IM information makes me feel very good. :3

Unfortunately, that introduces the problem of which chat client to use. Everyone has different preferences, and no one client is going to please everyone. Also, having YIM, Windows Live, & AIM all open at once is kinda inefficient for my craptop to handle (you should've seen it when I was playing WoW. 25 man Marrowgar with all those spell effects...oh fuck, it was awful. 0.3 FPS. No joke. And I was tanking.)

So I'm asking whomever's handy if they've heard anything good about any of the multiprotocol chat clients available out there, and which one works best for them. I've heard a lot of people using Trillian, but I've also heard that it blows massive, massive chunks and tends to eat messages.

If you have suggestions, let me know! I don't want to miss out on making a new friend because I don't have the chat client they use. :3

I've had no probs using trillian.. my friend uses miranda...  i suggest that you try those out atleast, and if not fully happy, keep on trying.. Trillian works for me just fine, altough i only use skype / msn / Googletalk on it... once i had icq also linked to it, but i hated icq so much that i simply deelted my account..

I can try and help you through seting up trillian.. ^^

I use Trillian for IM, works fine for me, just don't expect all the features that every client has. I use Skype and mIRC separately.

Generally, I'm not interested in all the features, like handwriting mode (who uses this) and such. Primarily, I'd like to unify the instant messaging I do into one client so I don't bog down my paltry computer with unnecessary processes.

Well, I both use MSN and YIM, and it works pretty fine for me... It only brings the problem of my computer starting very slowly XD
