I owe everyone an apology. In the aftermath of the 9.0 earthquake in Japan and the resulting disaster,
brought my attention to @Kavi, whose home was reportedly destroyed in the quake and whose sister was killed in unknown circumstances during the disaster. Sho started organizing a donation fund for her, and I linked to it.

Only one small problem: Kavi was almost certainly lying about the entire thing.

First of all, if you click through Kavi's icon, you'll notice Inkbunny throws an error at you. That's because Kavi is 14, and therefore breaking the rules. As a consequence, she's been banned from Inkbunny by the admin staff until she turns 18. Edit: Her furaffinity account has been suspended as well, pending an investigation by the FA admin team.

Second of all, her story does not match. She claims to be living in Japan in Oishi, Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture. No fatalities have been reported on Yamanashi-ken at all, and the quake was rather moderate there. There was some structural damage, but nothing too severe. And there were certainly no gas fires, which is the alleged cause of Kavi's alleged house allegedly burning down. She also claims that "It sucks living next to the ocean" -- Yamanashi is landlocked in the mountain range running down the middle of Honshu, and Oishi sits on a lake. Japan is only "next to the ocean" in comparison to Ohio. Which brings me to my next point.

Kavi has an online trail dating back several years, and almost all evidence points to her spending at least the last five years in Ohio. She is currently attending high school full-time in Ohio, which pokes big holes in her "in the US on vacation when the quake hit" story. She also has demonstrated that she is incapable of reading kanji without being able to paste them into a machine translator. She also claims to be working for Michael Bay, doing CG for Transformers 3. I find this unlikely, as Michael Bay has Industrial Light and Magic as well as Digital Domain tapped to handle CG.

Kavi is a lying minor.

I'm very upset right now, because I endorsed donating to her, and I'm officially retracting all support until I am provided with conclusive evidence that Kavi even lives in Japan. I'm sorry for unintentionally misleading everyone. To anyone who's donated money to this little hag, Shokuji has a journal that includes how to dispute the transaction with Paypal.

P.S. I don't approve of the shenanigans that they may get up to, and I'm not endorsing this discussion at all, but lulz.net is on the case and have determined some very interesting things. It's kind of scary to be on the same side as /furi/.

I am displeased. That is all.

Hah, clever l3 I didn't really even consider that she might've been lying; takes alot of balls/douchebaggery to make up such an intense lie like that :P Though it does explain how she so quickly bounced back. Tricky, tricky.

Yeah, the thing with trolls is that they can be a great resource for digging into stuff if they're directed in a manner that isn't being an absolute assface to people who completely didn't deserve it.

Profiting off of human misery:  Way to go, Kavi.

What a sad person to do something like this...

BTW, perhaps you could remove the link to her page/journal on your earlier journal https://inkbunny.net/journalview.php?id=6831, seeing that she's not actually in Japan?

I cleaned up other references, but I hadn't gotten to that one. Thanks for the reminder.

I thankfully ran out of money for generosity after I donated to the Red Cross, so by the time I heard Kavi's story, I didn't have money, anyways.

Lulz attacks everyone, which inevitably includes the people who genuinely deserve it (as well as those who don't), so them attacking Kavi or others is hardly worth mentioning.

No, but they're doing a very good job of exposing every little lie in her story. Like, finding her Facebook account where 24 hours after the news hit, is she posting on her wall about mourning her sister's death? No, she's showing off her new Transformers USB memory stick and how it transforms. Did she mention her sister? Not at all.

Has she scammed over $400 out of people? Unless she against all odds is actually telling the truth and the Japanese government, on local, prefecture, and national levels, is covering up deaths in a mountainous prefecture that was quite a distance from the quake, yes, she sure did.

This is incredibly frustrating, but the frustration is not for you or Shokuji to bear, you should never have to suspect someone of being so low to begin with, and it's a shame that someone who seemed to be part of our community chose to sink to these depths.

Wow, that is really horrible to lie in such an manner to gain money while others suffer. That's why I truly fear for humanity's future, especially since we are unfortunately tied to it.

Wow, that's pretty lowly. I don't even know what to say to that.

Damn... I am glad I never donated money, but annoyed about the lie all the same since it was such a crushing story when I first had heard.
