Over the last two years I've been able to make a living off of generous supporters, allowing me to draw what I want without ruining my mental health slaving away in some retail job. I've been incredibly grateful to have been able to go full-time and stay afloat doing it. As anyone who's here knows, we taboo artists are constantly being chased off platforms and forced to either adapt to an increasingly puritan internet, or find alternative paths, and now it seems like the one place that, despite its faults, allowed someone like me to make a living, is pushing away it's niche audience - codifying content policies that matches or might even supersede the likes of Patreon, without the broad appeal to support what's left.
I'm still working out what I'm gonna do, but given how SS is incredibly niche and full of quirks, the most likely option - despite some restrictions around censoring - seems to be Fanbox + some third party server (bc oops discord is *also* killing nsfw by requesting user's IDs π« ) - I'm open to other options, tho.
Though I still have work to do with certain cub projects like spin the bottle, this might put a greater haste on starting my fantasy comic and invest less in big taboo side projects. I'd find it hard to quit doing cub tho, so I'll have to find some way to keep at it.
Tl;dr: I'll have to figure out an alternative platform or tip service or perish π

Im planning to host my content myself (or on a file sharing platform) in encrypted form and use these subscription platforms as fancy distribution services for the monthly passwords that would decrypt that content. Its simple too. The art is embedded into a webpage as a data uri and then i process the page with PageCrypt. This turns it into a standalone html webpage that decrypts its embedded content when the user inputs a password. When user opens the page, it asks for the monthly password id distribute on subscribestar etc. No 7zip, winrar, or zip extraction needed. They put it in and the page decrypts its content. Then they save the image to no longer need the password. As long as you dont make a direct connection on subscribestar between your content and the passwords, TOS can't touch you. And since no payments are happening where you host the content, payment processors can't touch you either.

I'm hoping it could still be valid as a way to recieve funding, but not host content on the site itself? Like my comics were never going to be too graphic, but even the violence my first comic starts with would get me in trouble if I hosted it there. Hell, if you read the fine print, they don't even want to allow digitigrade anthros, so like...???

On the upside, it's not terribly difficult for your fans to sign up on whatever uncensored platform you choose, and thankfully there're still options around. If nothing else you can always have a Patreon/Subscribestar/whatever and just host your own fileserver so instead of hosting naughty things on their site that they object to, you just toss out a link to the file on your server. You might want to talk to Greenreaper about this, I'm sure he could set up Inkbunny so that you can put up images that can only be accessed through a special link sent to your subscribers and aren't otherwise visible in your gallery. That would probably be a big help to a whole lot of the artists on this site now, not just you.

Not sure if they walked that back, but Japan seems as if they are standing, at least for now to give Visa and Mastercard the finger and as big as those two are, it's not big enough to get the Japanese government to bow.
The problem is everything must be censored "To a point" and Fanbox is bound to make some changes with the flood of artists heading there now that Substar has caved. This is legal battle too, and given the current state of the higher courts, I have little faith that there's someone willing to spend the money needed to get this to the Supremes, as this would force them to do the one thing they don't want, make a real ruling on a subject they don't want to touch, because being vague has helped them.

I have been an artist on Pixiv Fanbox for 8 months, and here's what I do and here's what I've found out:
- It's incredibly easy to get an account, instant approval. However if you don't live in Japan you have to have a P**P** account for them to send your payout to. When P**P** started cracking down, I had to provide explanation as to what Pixiv Fanbox was to them. I just replied with "It's Pixiv Fanbox. They're a website that provides artists with financial help from supporters and fans, like Patreon." and that was just fine to them.
- Fanbox's P**P** account will show up as γγ―γ·γζ ͺεΌδΌη€Ύ and will send your money as Yen. Fanbox charges 13% instead of 10% to adult artists to cover the cost of having to pay extra employees to monitor adult accounts. Then P**P** will charge their fees as well. =C
- You absolutely have to censor peens and vaginas and any kind of penetration. You don't have to censor buttholes unless something is touching it. It can be just simple lines, tho Fanbox literally has a mathematical equation of pixel to censor ratio. XD ( https://fanbox.pixiv.help/hc/en-us/articles/13239721816... ) But you don't have to mosaic everything. OH! You also cannot show drugs because those are still illegal in Japan. To be on the safe side I've blacked out an entire bong before.
- You have to treat "cub" like "Fight Club"... Rule Number 1: You do not talk about Fight Club! Do not talk about having uncensored art. Do not talk about cub. Don't use the word. Just don't. Do not put links anywhere in your posts or profile that link to anywhere outside of Fanbox. Do not link to your websites either. Do not talk about giving supporters uncensored art. Do not talk about having uncensored art. I really can't stress that enough.
- Here is how I post on Fanbox:
1) For me my bread and butter is posting finished art along with progress art. On Fanbox I post the censored finished artwork and a few censored progress art pix.
2) Then on my Google Drive I upload a Zip with all of the uncensored artwork.
3) I then individually send the same post and include the link to the Zip to my list of supporters through a PM here on InkBunny, or to their Discord. (I don't have Telegram).
4) Finding out where to privately message your supporters if you don't know who they are is the tricky part. If I don't know who they are, I message them on Fanbox (which just goes through Pixiv Messenger) with: "Thank you so much for your support! Are you on InkBunny or Discord so I can give you a follow?" Again, do not bring up cub, uncensored artwork, or send links, and just covertly go from there.
It is extra work, but having that extra bit of money every month helps me get groceries. You develop a rhythm and a workflow.

1. Reading their creator info, it seems like they should be offering direct bank account payouts, is that not the case or is this restricted depending on domestic vs outside of japan? They should just need an IBAN number.
2. I do know about the censoring, and have tried to read the specifics carefully - I could probably vibe out a good solution since I've consumed plenty of japanese art over the years. As far as I'm aware, as long as you're properly covering up details of penetration you're golden, correct?
3. I.. don't get this Fight Cub part, I don't see how cub can possibly be worse than human lolisho - unless you're just talking about providing uncensored art, which yeah I know it's literally against japanese law. Would it really be so bad if you link to your other socials without hinting that you're harbouring uncensored art on there, like twitter, IB or baraag?
4. And lastly, this whole rigmarole about individually DMing your supporters with content seems like a pretty extreme workaround for something that is ultimately not that big of an issue, if I were to do that I would not have time to draw anything π

Yeah, there's definitely a lot to say about Fanbox. ^^ I wanted to try to cover as many angles as possible because this is such a crucial change going on with SubStar. I've done a lot of research before joining Fanbox, and watched other artists repeatedly struggle with the rules of the website.
1. So from what I've gathered, if you live in Japan, then you can do bank deposits in Japan. If you live outside of Japan, the only option is through P**P** This might have changed since I've done my research 8 months ago, but I haven't heard anything new since.
2. So you have to censor penetration and penises and vaginas. You don't have to censor buttholes that aren't penetrated, and nipples are fine too. Drug use has to be censored since that is illegal in Japan.
3. I may have gone a little overboard with my examples, but I just really wanted to stress that it's just better off to not mention potential trigger words that could attract moderator attention / warnings / bans.
In regards to linking links, I watched another artist from here post links, mention uncensored artwork, etc on their Fanbox - and then their IB journals were full of updates on getting temporary bans to their fanbox account posts delisted to full on cancelled.
Before I joined Pixiv Fanbox, I looked at a lot of artists' accounts, and there's rarely links to their own websites. The Pixiv Fanbox mentality is that if a person is using their website, and clicks on a link that shows them uncensored atrocities, they can be liable and thusly they will just snip you right off the branch.
4. Absotively posilutely understandable. This is one of those things where what works for me, definitely is not a one size fits all situation. It's just what I do, but you would definitely have a lot more supporters in your situation.
To all of this, there are going to be exceptions and contradictions all throughout Fanbox. This is just my personal experience, and everyone's will vary, but I want to see you thrive so I went all mother hen mode.

I also suggest kofi just don't post anything lewd and you should be fine. It is what I use, never tried subscribestar, don't really care for pixivs censorship requirements. Also I used to take tips though direct PayPal but I just use kofi cause some people don't like or use PayPal which that's up to them. Good luck to you.
