Dead Computer

Yeah, I no longer have a working computer. Tuesday night we had a wind storn that knocked out power and I think when the power tried to kick back on, it did something to my computer. It doesn't turn on, the CPU post light flashes and stays off. Then the RAM rgb lights turn on, but nothing else does. I've tried different things to see if it's an easy fix, but nothing. Different power cord, different outlet, CMOS reset, no luck. I'm thinking that the CPU somehow died, the power supply and the motherboard seems to be working, as seen with the lighted RAM. I don't think they would light up if the board or the power supply were fried. The socket looks good too, didn't see any scorch marks or bent pins. The CPU is an Intel Core i7 12700F, I can't replace it until next year. Though I would love to get a whole new computer, but that's really out my range.

If you can afford it, take it to a reliable shop to be checked. I've had a similar experience but that one was just a faulty connector on the motherboard that could be fixed.

Might want to try letting it sit in that "on" state for up to an hour or two to see if it boots. I've been there before but the reality was the motherboard just decided the DDR5 needed to be re-trained which can take quite a while

it´s age old thing. old people always told us to unplug things during a thunder storm, but let´s be honest, nobody really does. and then we get the blackout and something really breaks from it.

happened to my TV, when I was around 15. I still leave it running during storms, but sometimes get really nervous about it.

Friend of mine recommended unplugging everything from the computer(including the computer from any power) and holding down the power button, to hopefully purge any static electricity, to see if that fixes the issue.

depending on if you have your tower plugged into a power strip with a surge protector. When the storm started screwing with the power flow; its likely that surge could have damaged parts of your tower. It sucks and why you always plug your equipment into a surge protector. It could be your power supply given thats what a surge would hit first, try swapping it if you can
