Wednesday morning 6am I got Tony the cabbie to pick me up from the Super 8, only to find Amtrak was still out of service. Had to get a refund from the Amtrak guy at the station. At that moment, Tony agreed to drive me all the way home from Berlin, CT. Gave him whatever $ I had left for gasoline, and got back home around 10am. The sight of my block made me wanna vomit: 3 trees down (one uprooted) and 2 telephone poles down or compromised. Live wires ripped, stretched and exposed everywhere. My whole block is roped off, and God knows how fucking long we'll be in the dark. My house has no electricity, no heat, no hot water, and no phone. On top of that, the nearby cellphone tower was hit, so I can't even make any cellphone calls. I am literally stuck. I'm typing this now from my local library; I'm certain a lot of my friends have been wondering about me since I got stranded in Cromwell, CT. Thank God I got home okay; now I'm forced to endure a grueling wait for power to be restored. Here are some photos of the carnage I took on Wednedsday: http://i49.tinypic.com/bej6e9.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/2nldau8.jpg http://i48.tinypic.com/n46y5s.jpg http://i47.tinypic.com/2j4adk6.jpg
Just letting everyone know: yes, I'm back in New York. No, I'm not sure how long I'll be stuck without power. *hugs*
Should be soon, at least for power- I'm listening to 1010 WINS to keep track of progress over there... Be glad you're not in Breezy Point or over in Jersey! :P Hopefully there wasn't too much damage in your home. You've been in my thoughts and prayers, but like the rest of NYC, you'll make it in no time! The City's fighting hard to come back to life, and things seem to be going faster than I expected, considering how extensive the City is and how extensive the damage was. Keep your hopes up, my friend- I know you can! And just like the Giants winning the World Series back here would say, just as the old Journey song goes- DON'T STOP BELIEVING! :)
...Panda porn... *laughs!* ;)

Glad you are ok. New York is still kinda in the dark in some places. No trains in my area and the buses are taking detours. "The Greatest City in the World" my ass. If that so, Brooklyn and Queens wouldn't be part of the Atlantic Ocean >.<

A hurricane's a hurricane, and no matter what, it'll do what a hurricane will do. :P But NYC earns that nickname, not for whether it can withstand a destructive storm, but for its people, and their can-do attitude-- Which NYC has. Things may look like their trudging along, but it's only been 4-5 days on, and the city's recovering its infrastructure faster than I was expecting- it's going much faster than what happened in New Orleans after Katrina!
As someone who has lived through earthquakes and tsunamis, believe me, I do know how bad it can be.

*hugs u tight* Shit, that looks terrible. I'm just glad you and your mother are alright for the most part. Tony the cab driver is fucking awesome person to drive you all the way back. Aren't you glad you listened to me about saving up your duckies in case of an emergency like this?

Good luck. I heard on the news that Staten Island was practically ignored until today. (Toronto was back online by next day, but we didn't get hit nearly as hard.)
