Celebrating the 36th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall 🎊

After the Second World War, the city of Berlin was divided into two worlds: the western, capitalist world where people lived well, and the communist hell of the east, where everyone suffered from hunger, cold, and disease. People on the eastern side did everything they could to cross to the western side and escape; the Soviet Union had to build a wall to prevent people from escaping Marxist misery, but one great day in November 1989, the desire for freedom finally tore down the wall of socialist tyranny.
Just like the Cubans who escape their genocidal dictatorship to Florida, just like the Venezuelans, North Koreans, Nicaraguans today. People from all over the world continue to escape that shit called communism, escaping that ideology that killed 150 million through starvation or at the hands of a cruel soldier.
Congratulations to all the brave people who fought to tear down that damn wall.

And yes, fuck all those who defend communism today, fucking idiots.

I was 12 when that happened. It was a huge deal even here in the Netherlands, live coverage on all TV channels and everything, and we had lessons in the history of Germany and communism and socialism and everything all week. I still remember the newscasts showing the lines and lines of rickety little Trabants steaming their way out of the DDR, into Czechoslavakia (as it was still called), Hungary, Poland, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands. Those people were SO happy, it was so touching even for a 12 year old boy watching it on TV.

I was born too late and missed out on many historical events; I bet it would have been epic to see that live.

Truth be told, I was a bit too young still to fully comprehend how much of a historic event it was, and why my parents were so very interested in it. But it was still very impressive. The throngs of people, the cheers when the first chunk fell, all those people hammering and bashing at that wall with whatever they could get their hands on, it was really impressive to see even at that age >^_^<
