Neither, focus on your dreams and aspirations. Oh wait, you meant for... Okay, lmao, I'm invested in the plot, but I'm pretty sure a lot of the gooners would say the 'plot' if you get me, so I'm probably not a majority. I love the little story details more than the sexy details. :D

I'd love to focus a ton on the story and characters. It's what I was starting this project as! But over time interest dropped in it and the kink art got the better responses. So now I feel like I am at a crossroads. Figure out how to get lore and characters to mix with kink art well! Or maybe reboot a bit and focus on one or the other.

You can always weave story with smut, like Sefeiren tries with comics. Spoogiehowl has also been doing a story recently with smut interwoven... But you know your audience better than I do. Do what you think you'll enjoy and they'll enjoy.

That's what I want to do!

Only issue is the process to design all that and get it started takes time and the interest in it is lower and lower over time. I would need to devote all my time to paintings with kinks and butts and stuff to not lose support on Patreon. And I have a few months of design work to do if I focus on it.

Super hard to balance it on Patreon since paid work comes with expectations. Design work and lore build up seems to not fit in there now. I focused a bit on character design and new OCs in the last few months and lost enough support to get scared of this direction.

As a writer with 40 years of experience, I'd say, yeah, my preference would be with the plot, character development, even world building and all that stuff. I've always found that very interesting, not just to do it myself, but to see how others go about it. Heck, even old greymuzzles like myself can still pick up new things from that >~_^<

I do have a lot of world building and story set up I have not shown. Have a few friends that help me write it too, especially my friend BSting who is really good at writing~

I would love to go all in on that! But it does seem kink art is where the interest is at, enough so that I lose support (on Patreon and similar) when I focus on character designs and plot set up art too much.

So there's a balance here.

I might end up going full kink for my main art and save all main character development only for a comic. Comics might "feel" like an extra added on top and not be taken as a "oh, you didn't draw the kink I wanted, bye".

Curate the crowd you want. Make the stuff you like and the people that also like it will stick around for more of the same! I love the good ol' kinky stuff, but every once in a while a story will catch my attention even without the sexy bits. Not everyone is one side of the coin or the other, some of us like landing on the edge. ;D

I was doing that, but it seems to clash. My two wants are not easy to merge, haha~
I want lots of lore and characters for a full project with eventually a comic to tell a story.
But I also want that story and these characters to have lots of kinky interests. It's a very kink and fetish friendly world~

But oh dear do these not mix well! At least during the design period!
I have a few months of character design and world building left to do to flesh it all out. Really stabalize it so I can draw the kinky stuff with confidence! To show the characters and the world they live in~

Interest in that? Pretty low so far, haha

I'm in the same boat as you, so from one artist to another: Just do what you want, it doesn't hurt to do your own thing and let people learn about your characters, but realize that a vast majority of your followers came for the porn.

You probably won't get as many favs of views as your NSFW pics, but it's alright, don't sweat it.

Well, the main issue is losing interest on my Patreon.
Peole funding my art seem less interested in the character design and lore creation over time. So I feel like I am letting people down when I work on character art and not the bigger art with kinky stuff. As is, I would need 100% of my time spent on bigger paintings to grow or stay even.

I would need to dip out for a few months to go finish all this design and prep work on my own and return later to not alienate or lose more people.

But dang! Having a Patreon to not fund the creation of my art!? That sounds very wrong.

So I am wondering if I need to switch gears and figure out what people want from me more than what I want so I don't collapse all I built before the finish line.

I like having both things, like a story to work on and build and an entire world to make.

But also having a small space to just play, and have fun with my kinks outside the major story I have because not everyone is into just focusing on the stuff that gets me going.

I am finding it might be best to find the top three things that do get you going, then build a lot of your main work around that. Feels like it would help flow everything together. Too many different things going at once and it loses interest and makes focusing on art hard since anything you do may fail to fulfill expectations.

Balancing this all is hard!

I keep a main project, a fun project, and a totally experimental project going so if one thing ever gets tedious I can just do some of the one that is different and play around with things and then see where it gets me.

I have everything merged into one large project. I feel super motivated for it and all art feels like some progress with it, so that's nice!

Having smaller projects you experiment with sounds fun too. Can bounce around them and find what works for you on any day.

Some way of mixing them so it's fun to follow the creation of the characters and lore is a big goal I want!

It must be possible, but I am not quite sure on how to present it yet.
My recent art seems to not land well outside the more directly anal and butt focused art.
So I am missing the mark a bit.

I'll need to really think about how to show new OCs off with kinks and character that people can be like "yeah, I get it and dig it!" immediately~

There is a big ol story written out. And it does introduce new characters early. Annie is actually not planned for the introduction right now. It will start by following Iryne Bushtail, the mouse girl I posted a little of recetnly.

I think keeping story focused pieces shorter and more digestible is the way to go. I mean, kink stuff for sure- Won't say no to that. If you do go narrative-focused, I think doing things like shorter or one page comics is best. I've seen a lot of comics that have gone for more than 60 pages and to me that's kind of off-putting. Like I feel like I need to go back and read the rest but usually I see this stuff when I'm horny so I just move on to more digestible stuff.

Just my opinion though, do what you want-- I'll support it regardless.

The way my story is set up with comics it will be longer.

I am inspired by how shows like Pokemon work.
There's a basic plot. A premise.
Once it is established the show can do anything with each episode. Then occassinally move the main plot forward.

I like that format.
I need to establish the Annie world with a big chapter of my comic. Show the villains, the "heroes" and communicate how the theme is sex positivity.

Then I can make smaller chapters of comics that can be read in any order.

That's my larger goal.

Smaller goal is lots of character art and one page scenes~

Gosh and I'm such a slut for drama lore and story... but I find myself asking readers the same question! I suppose if you were deep into a story-arc you could always just cut to a porn side story as filler if there was no way to make something sexy feel right in the main story, like if people were sad or stuff. It is so hard to trust oneself to find the right rhythm, the right tidal motion if you will between porn and story~

I do plan my story to be sexy~
It's all about sex demons, the paranormal, and sex positivity.
So sexy time art should naturally fit.

Heck, one of my test comics has pages of anal tentacle sex that's lore important!

I just hope that the character development parts, the characters and design process itself, and the parts where there is no sex, like SFW personality art, can also be liked.

Sucks to put work into that and lose support when I present it, haha

It's up to you. Well I am a fan of interesting stories when someone is the one making the art if they don't love what they're making it starts to show. So do what makes you have the art wise. I'm searching that your fans like me will still pop in to see what you're up to regardless of what you choose.

Exactly. I have so much passion for my Annie & The Mirror Goat project!
I put a lot into the foundation for it.

But I can tell it sours my joy when I post it, get little feedback, and sometimes lose support on Patreon for it.

So I want to get feedback and make sure the parts I love and work on are also parts people here can also love!
if only I love it, I might want to change it.

And now is the time to edit, change, or alter anything!
