Surviving the furry art sites

If you want a smooth experience on any furry art website. Here are some rules of thumb.

1. Don’t talk drama. If you are posting drama posts constantly griping about this or that, making call outs, gripping about FA or IB and how bad they are, and so forth, you will find yourself in more drama. It’s not to say “keep your mouth shut”. It means that you should save your rants for the most serious and lagit issues. Outside of that maintain either a positive or neutral impressions. Don’t gripe for the sake of griping. Why? It’s because I found out the hard way that constant drama talk is a hall mark sign of being a toxic person. You will scare away high quality people while attracting other toxic people into your social circles. Then you will find yourself paying the price for years afterwords and your enjoyment in the furry fandom will be non existent and you will likely quit.

2. Constant drama talk will run you into trouble with site admins. Thing is the admins are hand picked by the site owner who has a certain direction and vision for the website no matter if you like that vision or not. The site owner is going to hand pick those who are in lockstep of his vision so there is less infighting among him and his staff and among each other so running the site remains the focus. What this means is that the community they created and are maintaining will be a reflection of the site owners vision. As the site owner of a furry website had told my soulmate to his face (metaphorically) that “this is a benevolent dictatorship” he’s right. No matter if you like the direction of the site or not, what the site owner says goes. So if you talk drama and speak your mind, you will rock the boat, disrupt the vision and quickly find yourself ostracized no matter if you are in the right or not. Disruptions to the vision are not tolerated because maintaining the vision equals a smooth operation in the minds of the owner and staff, no matter what furry Art website you set up shop on. So you the person that dislikes going with the flow and talks drama and speaks your mind, you have two choices scream and rant in places other than the art sites you are not happy with, admins will make sure you have a bad day until you STFU our leave. So that in mind, restrict your journals to basic status updates becuase these kind of journals are admin and owner safe. Not to mention that you will be less likely to attract the attention of trolls and toxic people who love nothing more than to make your even more miserable.

3. If you are an artist. Do everything possible to create your own original content. If you draw characters of other furries, make darn sure to get written permission, clearly indicate that in your descriptions and clearly credit the character’s owner. If you don’t you will have a bad day. Staff and owners of art sites are extremely paranoid of plagiarism so they WILL find any excuse to remove what they don’t like and suspend or ban you, no and’s if’s or but’s. If you keep this rule in mind you will improve your odds of your gallery not being touched by the owner and staffers and you surviving art sites.

Thing is you can hate places like Inkbunny and Fur Affinity as much as you damn well please. However staff and owners of such sites don’t give a rat’s ass about some dude on the internet screaming and yelling in their journals and will only see said person as a disruption to their visions. They will run their sites the way they please. If you complain about that the only thing that will happen is they willl tell you “There’s the door.” and if they feel like it, they will quickly show you the door. Does it suck? Yeap. But sorry folks, that’s the reality of being on sites like this one. If you don’t pack the gear to survive here and other art sites then maybe you should find a place more aligned to how you think things should be run. My fiancée was dissatisfied how he was treated by admin here. So he packed his bags and set up his own space where he calls the shots and is active on my personal telegram group where he and I call the shots.

For me and my regards of Inkbunny and Fur Affinity, I emotionally detached myself from places like these. They are just places where I post and view art. That’s it. Other than a few exceptions anymore like this one, I restrict my journals to status updates and save my blogs and rants for places I call the shots on. I put more effort in creating original content while clearly stating credits and permissions from others when I post drawings of their characters. These are my tactics for surviving furry art sites where the prevailing vision does not align with your own. Not to mention it’s a good way to not attract toxic people into your social circles. Will my tactics work forever? Maybe. Maybe not. Visions can and do change. They can become more aligned to my own. Maybe they will become more hostile to me. One has to be prepared to deal with such changes should that bridge needs to be crossed.
