tl:dr : The constant dull headaches/migraines persist despite my effort to lower coffee consumption for the past 2 months. Likely causes are withdrawal symptoms, minerals deficiency caused by coffee before and now by the coffee imitation (caf-lib) and I decided to limit my intake to one coffee a day and nothing else. New art should pop up in about a week
For the past 2 months I've been on a journey to lower my coffee intake down from 4 cups a day, to 1 for the sole reason to be able to draw more often by getting rid of those annoying constant headaches I've been having for the longest time, and those horrible coffee crashes happening on the evening. I've been on one coffee a day for the past 2 weeks with no ill side effects for the most part. However despite my best efforts the headaches remain
I have been taking a coffee substitute for the past year or so. This stuff has zero caffeine, but tastes like coffee. It's been a help when craving the stuff. However this stuff may be a cause to why I'm still having those headaches
I've looked it up for many reasons and explanations, and the best I could fine is :
-I'm in constant withdrawal symptom like before. This shouldn't be a a problem now since I'm staying steadily at one coffee a day, and one coffee a day (Less than 100mg a day) shouldn't trigger a dependence
-I'm missing out on some minerals causing headaches when lacking (Iron, magnesium, copper, probably some more). I've been eating a lot better for a long time now, so that shouldn't be an issue
-There's something going on in my brain and any sort of trigger makes it easy to have a headaches. Probably not that
The second point seems to be the most likely. While I do eat fairly well and healthy, I do work a lot, so my daily needs are higher. I knew coffee inhibits absorption of many nutrients but I shrugged it off thinking it's fine now since I'm drinking less for a while. However what causes that isn't the caffeine itself but compounds from the coffee plant. The coffee imitation is also made from plants known to inhibit (Barley and rye) and I've been drinking tons of that stuff especially when not working. Both are diuretic too, so I pee more, and the kidneys work more too, and that causes minerals to flush out of my body, literally
Another detail is I'm having constant heartburns, which I believe is GERD, and this causes further inhibition of nutrients
My best conclusion is despite lowering coffee, I'm missing out on important minerals that cause headaches when deficient, while thinking that should be covered by eating healthy, and the best course is to stop the consumption of that stuff completely while keeping the one coffee a day ritual. This should also help with heartburns. I'm not sure if I do have GERD : food/stomach content does not come back in my throat, it doesn't taste bitter and it's not harder to swallow, but it's constantly burning around the opening of the stomach, but either way not having the chest constantly burning would be nice
Anyway, if I got all that right, I should be feeling better within a week or two. I got a picture in the works for a while but those headaches were being really annoying, on top of rediscovering the 3DS after I've gotten mine repaired a while ago and found out about Pretendo. Been fun playing Mario Kart 7 and Smash 3DS Online again
