I heard a theory of how the Sphinx in Egypt lost it's nose. Back during the reign Napoleon Bonaparte when France conquered Egypt, Napoleon allowed his army to do target practice on the Sphinx, during which time one of his soldiers blasted the Spyinx's nose off with a cannon.
