From what I know, he suffered a heart attack while he was sleeping, probably caused by his bad habits of smoking and drinking alcohol excessively.

At the age he died it could be a wake up call to people around him if they have traits like these to quickly do something about it. I've seen two other people die the last few years due to weight alone. None were elderly.

So I saw this journal due to a friend, and I just feel compelled to say one thing.

I am, genuinely, sorry your friend is gone. But he hurt alot of people. He contributed to the suffering of alot of people. He had it explained to him, patiently, many times, that other people were suffering because of things he helped to advocate. He did not seem to understand or care.

You cannot do those things and expect people to view you fondly on the whole.

It's not like JK Rowling where someone puts a vast amount of money behind planned and deliberate pushes against the human rights of others. But his conduct was such that he may have done so if he had the money. For those of us who have trans friends or loved ones, or for trans people themselves, his words and actions were not harmless. They could not simply be ignored.

Ignoring them is why the US is currently falling into fascism. Why not just Trans people but people across the LGBT spectrum, nonwhite people, and neurodivergent people all face serious choices about fleeing and face threats of violence in their daily lives. Cis/het white women as well to a somewhat lesser degree.

Now he was not in the US, but we live in a global society. His actions also echoed with similar voices to harm people in his homeland, and elsewhere. These were not views he 'happened' to hold, either. He objectively and overtly posted journals and single page comics with the hopes of pushing his ideology. An ideology which, I am sorry to say, seems to have contributed to his own death.

You are entitled to pain over your friend. But let's be honest. He deliberately made himself into a heavily polarizing figure. He overtly stated to large swathes of people the core message of "You should die or lose human rights because of an immutable facet of your person". He then stood by and doubled down on such statements when called out on it.

Repeatedly.

Is it reasonable for people to keep quiet about that? Be it when he was alive or in the wake of his death? Can you put yourself into the position of having to face a very real risk of losing your life or having it turned into a living hell in part because enough people echoed those ideas out of willful ignorance? By all means, own your pain. But I hope you at least do realize that one cannot expect kindness from people while also calling for their death or disenfranchisement. It simply does not work that way.

Yeah, well, quite a few people have told me about the bad things Roarey did. Of course I don't approve of that behavior, I confess that I was not aware that he harassed people (until a few days ago), although it is a defect that I forgive him for. He and I talked about just 3 or 4 times, and we never mentioned anything about ideologies or politics, we don't care, we talked about drawings and future plans.
I agreed with Roarey on his rejection of communism, I also liked how he pointed out the hypocrisy of some leftist movements and such things, but going to directly harass people is another thing, an immature behavior and unnecessary. Something I also don't approve of is the behavior of a couple of mentally retarded people who came to my journal just to make jokes about a deceased person. I think this community has lost a lot of morality in general😞

But those of us harmed by actions he contributed to have every right to 'not' forgive him. Especially since he was not repentant.

As for his takes on communism? To be blunt he didn't understand political theory well at all. The few times I tried to rationalize with him before he blocked me went poorly specifically because of his cognitive dissonance. I am not a communist, but most of the problems he fixated on were ones of authoritarianism, not communism or even 'left' politics in general.

He was a cheer leader for those who would have gladly seen him dead for who and what he was, and attacked the whole of the left because, like all large buckets of people, some of them were shit. I cannot even begin to go into all of the flaws in his ideology. But I know by the end he was spending so much of his time terrified of some imaginary bugbear of 'communism' even as 'the west' as people put it has been sliding steadily into actual fascism.

As for people going after journals addressing him? Well, for better or worse that's the legacy he left. Roarey chose to side with those who would see us all dead. Himself included. That is an unfortunate but demonstrable fact. Even if he did not have power to enact anything meaningful he spent his latter years largely screaming his support of fascism into the void regardless of his understanding it or not. For those of us facing the very real threat of disenfranchisement and death due to the things he advocated it can be exceptionally difficult to find anything but catharsis in his passing. Because unfortunately he chose to make himself an overt enemy of many people in a community full of and built up by said people.

I am an American. I am autistic. I am on disability. I am bi. I have trans loved ones. There is a very good chance that I and most of my loved ones will not see the end of next year alive. This is a fact we must live with every day. I cannot even look away from the news to ease stress because I need to know if it's time to try fleeing. While I am a sadist, I do not personally feel schadenfreude from his passing. I wish he had simply realized that he was aiding neo-nazis who would gladly kill him the second they got the chance. But in aiding them, he marked himself among their numbers. Even if that wasn't his intention it is the functional end result.

So for many people this is simply about reveling in the death of a vocal Nazi supporter. This is some small, albeit likely pointless, victory in a war most of us probably won't live though.

I can understand it may not feel 'fair'. But it does not matter if it is fair or not. It 'is'. It's the simple fact of the matter. it's reality. His choices built up the vitriol towards him in life and for better or worse his friends who mourn are going to endure the backlash. Unfortunately that's the reality when someone decides to stand up in favor of an oppressive movement in a space populated largely by the oppressed and their found family.

It's all actions and consequences.

I see from some of the things you said that you are genuinely concerned about your future and that of your loved ones, and that is an admirable and generous quality. I would like to calm your worries a little, assure you that your rights are intact. In the United States no one is denied education, health, housing or food, and before the law all human beings are equal regardless of their characteristics. The right-wing has risen recently because the middle class has been abandoned for a long time, workers want better wages, not to lose the comfortable lifestyle they have achieved, and that their country is not damaged by external factors, the fascism you speak of is only hard-working people who believe in the return of the golden age of the United States, when the economy was doing so well.
And unfortunately, lunatic nazis exist, and real supremacists, it is an undeniable reality, but absolutely no one supports them, they do not represent even 0.1% of your country's population and in the end they will achieve nothing.
My intention will never be to change your mind, but I think I can help with your concerns.
That's just my conclusion. Or do you think I'm wrong?

The medical care I need to live is already on the chopping block and the insane means-testing they put us though is due to get worse. If my state wasn't self sufficient enough (I.E. if I lived in a red state) I'd be as good as dead.

I appriciate the thought, but large swathes of the consittution have already been thrown out under this administration, and people are seemingly either ignorant of or apathetic to this fact.

The second ICE began deporting people without due process, something even illegal migrants are due, the fifth amendment was left in tatters. Kidnapping and imprisoning individuals without said rights means it's impossible to even verify who is or is not 'legal', not to mention the rights of citizens violated by ICE and authorities at large in other sectors.

Fascists are not a minority of the right wing population. They are its core. This is why policies identical to those preformed by the Nazis when laying the groundwork for the holocost are being cheered by the American Right at this very moment.

I could probably go on for hours about this. But the short answer is that they do not in fact build a comfortable life for anyone but the ultra-wealthy. A third of the US is in some level of crippling poverty and that number continues to rise specifically due to the things the American Right supports. The problem is that they have been appealing to the lowest common denominators since Reagan. Racism and xenophobia, traditionalism, hypernationalism, all while taking money from corrupt corporations who's interests lie in maintaining this status quo.

And I don't simply mean republicans, I mean most Dem leadership and many neo-libs are in this bucket as well. They are fine with increasing the human suffering because it might make their lives 'easier'. Even if it would be in ways they do nto notice, or if it would only be temporary before the economic erosion gets them as well.

The tragedy is that the poor and willfully ignorant who help support the right wing while it slowly kills them are going to suffer the worst out of all this. Most red states only exist because of money given to them by the fed after California earns it. Most of the programs they are cutting disproportionately aid them. I fully recognize that the current admin's discussion on autism is a pretense for eventually shoving us in those prison camps they're making and eventually executing us as a 'burden'. RFK Jr. made that clear enough with his dehumanizing little speech. But so many right wingers don't realize the social safety nets they hate are the only things keeping them afloat.

As for the economy? It hasn't been doing well since the 90s. Rich people have been doing well. But that's a shit metric to use. that is another thing I could rant on but the short version is that without worker protections which would assure a living minimum wage the workers can't build the foundation of the economy. A line may go up on a graph but it's meaningless if the people can't eat.

We've seen all this happen before. This is how the gilded age crashed. We should have had another such crash in 08, but sadly our economy was kept on life support. So now it's a matter of the people who realize our species is fucked and the people who still won't accept it going into a heated ideological war. one that may end up turning into a shooting war, sad as it is to say.

And it's all due to the fundamentally failed ideologies pushed by Nixon and Reagan. Ideologies they used to win by appealing to old racists who still insisted the confederacy was a good idea.

I am not safe, and frankly neither are you if you're in the US. We live in a fascist regime in the midst of carrying out a coup. Even if you support them now, they 'will' do what fascists always do and turn on you when they run out of more left-leaning people to kill.

Because their ideology dies quickly without bodies to fuel the fire.
