Hiatus and new PC

Just got a new PC and I need to set everything up, download drivers, games, log in to accounts, etc. It can be a never ending nightmare, or an easy one day thing. Hope everything goes smooth. So unfortunately I won't be drawing for a while until everything is working properly.

Rambling and PC talk stuff ahead:

But yeah, my old PC is almost 8 years old now, which is insane! I still feel like I built it two years ago. The hardware is ancient! GTX 1080Ti, slow 2400mhz 16gb ram and an old overclocked i5 8600k. I had a regular HDD for files and most games, and an old sata 500gb SSD for some games. I'm surprised it has not died yet.

It's been an amazing machine, but it is starting to show its age. The GPU mostly is dropping frames like crazy on every game, and getting hotter peak temps every week. I'm sure there is almost no thermal paste left on it. And most modern games are extremely demanding on old hardware which is not helping it. I'll miss the old PC, but it's time for it to rest and just serve as a backup.

My new PC is not top tier, but even with mid specs, it will feel like an insane upgrade over that ancient bucket I had. Specially since I'm still using my decade old 2560x1440 165hz gaming monitor. I went a bit high on the CPU (for the first time I ditched Intel), going with a Ryzen 7 9800x3d. Got a proper m2 SSD with 2tb, plus a regular 4tb hhd for storage only. Went a bit overboard with 64gb of ram. But the best thing was the hell of a deal I got for an RTX 5070 Ti. Below msrp!!! Not the most powerful GPU you can get, but it absolutely demolishes my old GTX 1080 Ti. And the fact that I paid less for it than the old GTX makes it even better.

Wish me luck setting this thing up! I really hope my tablet doesn't give me any trouble. It's the thing I'm most worried about.

Best of luck with the new PC! I know mine has similar specs to your old one. Its definitely starting to feel its age too. Hope your transfer over to the new machine goes smooth so you can get in some quality game and art time in soon!

I just recently finished mine a couple of months ago, I had the same PC since about 2005 and had really only had upgraded the GPU and HDD. The video card dying is what forced me to finally bite the bullet and say goodbye to my old, faithful Huey.
But upgrading was the best thing I ever did, I've never been on a computer this fast before, and it was messing up my drawing because the old computer actually did not display 1080p. It instead blew everything up to fit the screens which I didn't notice before, so that messed with my drawing and rendering. But now I can see everything as its meant to, and play a lot of games without a ton of issues or long load times.
It didn't take me too long to get everything going and mostly set, and I hope your set up goes by fast too!
I wish you luck!

Hope it all goes well, just remember, if you get frustrated, you can always dig a new hole in the yard!

It went a lot easier than I expected, thankfully! Adjusting to the new Windows was almost instant as well.

One of my favorite tools for setting up a fresh Windows install is ninite.com way, way nicer than downloading and installing all the basic apps you need to start with individually and clicking next a million times. Give it a shot, I build gaming PCs as a side job and use it for every single one!

Other really nice apps I always like to have are LibreHardwareMonitor for temps/fan speed control, OpenRGB for ARGB lighting control, WinAero Tweaker for all the hidden settings in Windows I like to be able to change, mpv for video playback, and some others you probably don't care about.

Oh also make sure your BIOS/UEFI is the latest version! Especially with Ryzen mobos, a lot of the earlier BIOS versions  have a ton of bugs and issues. There's also some important security updates to AMD AGESA that you really want to have.
