Question

So, we know of the issues that this site has with SFM artwork. Does that extend to Daz Studio artwork, as well? I ask, because I recently downloaded and suggested to be made for download a bunch of Star Wars alien characters (some of them were made on my suggestion, so I figured they counted as "original work"), and I'm wondering if I'm allowed to post renders of them up on here. If anyone knows, please inform me. Thanks.

At this point in time, if you did not make the model, it is not acceptable to post.

Mmm. Like I said, a few of these model presets I got made on my suggestion. Would those be allowed on here, or no?

At the moment, the rules require that renders specifically showcase your own work.

Okay, so what about these models:

https://inkbunny.net/s/3520870
https://inkbunny.net/s/3519996
https://inkbunny.net/s/3354320
https://inkbunny.net/s/2977977
https://inkbunny.net/s/2987267

These I technically made myself, with sculpting and other assets, and aren't just headhacks.

Also, what about these:
https://inkbunny.net/s/2374530

The female Mewtwo and Tails in this render set I technically didn't make, but the others were commissions I personally got and bought for myself, and the aforementioned Mewtwo and Tails model I got permission from the owner to convert to SFM. Do these count?

As for the ones you sculpted yourself, they'd be allowed. At this time, commissioned models aren't allowed, nor would ones that you just converted to another platform.

WHAT?! What do you mean commissioned models aren't allowed? Even if I commissioned them myself and haven't shared them with anyone else? That's bullshit! You might as well say commissions of ANY kind, not just models, is not allowed, because "they weren't made by you".

That is one of the oversights that we're working on addressing.

What, blocking commissioned work? That's stupid, and you guys know it.

The wording of the rule in question is:
" No screenshots from games or other software unless they show your own artwork or creations. Your creations in the screenshot must be original and not just modifications of standard avatars, models, templates, etc that come with the software or that you purchased from other creators.
This is technically more restrictive than "by you/for you" of the general ownership policy, if you take a strict view of "your own".

Obviously this is not really intended for the situation where people commission models and then do significant work with them, in part because it does not consider such work as being original. Rather, it is the model that is "the original work". Similar to how a photo or to to show off a fursuit is valid but lots of photos of that fursuit in different positions/with other fursuits is not. The concept there is that any number of people could create lots of the same or very similar work - which can be true for 3D artwork as well.

We have had a long argument over this and yes, the plan is to change so that some level of "using a model someone else created to create a scene, especially if a main character model is made by/for you, as long as all meaningful contributors to the scene are credited as far as reasonably possible" is a valid work.

Okay, that makes more sense. Thanks.

So, let me get this correct: if the new change goes through, as long as the creators of the models I use (especially if they're made by/for me as a commission) are credited and are okay with it, and there's some effort to make a good scene from them, then 3D renders/animations from modular programs like SFM and Daz Studio would be allowed? Just want to make sure, because I get not wanting to have people just post up selfies from FFXIV or something that takes little effort to do, but considering SFM and Daz have a dedicated asset making community to them, and are made with the intent of making artwork renders/animations with them by hand, I just want to make sure that it's stuff like that that you're talking about easing the rules on.

To note, how would this affect people in the community of using KabalMystic's body assets to make new characters with? Like, for instance, the models that [iconname]Hiroshi-san[/iconname] makes? Would those be allowed under the edited rules, since KM has himself given his assets away for free for people to make their own content with.

For the first part, that is as I understand it the plan, at least insofar as it concerns your own characters, and probably others who have given specific permission to you for a limited number of works; the second gets into "where to draw the line" territory (I know KabalMystic has come up in our discussion for this very reason).

I can't give you a full answer as a) I'm concentrating on the technical issue in our site notice, and b) it's time for me to sleep, but I suggest filing a ticket so staff can get back to you with one.

Sorry, just wanted to ask for clarity's sake, by "this oversight", do you only mean commissioned 3D models and SFM work, or are you also including 2D/drawn art that people commission from other artists?

Correcting that the rules for 3d art is so narrow in what they allow.

I didnt know this site had issue with SFM work. I have stuff from SFM here posted already and nothing has come up.
XabinOtter

There's been issues with people posting up SFM stuff, because of a rule on here that is spottily enforced where, if you didn't wholly make the model yourself, you can't use it. It's spotty, because headhacking is prevalent for SFM stuff (mainly the KabalMystic models you see out there), and apparently there's some debate on whether those are considered "self-made" or not.

In this case, a few of the Daz Studio Star Wars models I got were suggested by me, with assets supplied by me, and I'm not sure if that counts or not.

even tho Ive given all credit to the creators of the models?
https://inkbunny.net/s/3594269
https://inkbunny.net/s/3610191
https://inkbunny.net/s/3617870

And that rule stifles fan artwork with it where alot of people have already enjoyed.
Telain

None of those are allowed. The relevant section of the Acceptable Content Policy is the poorly named Screenshots.

Headhacks are also not allowed.
WolfgerLynel

dumb.
But then every SFM pic I see on this site should be a violation. thats not fair
EVERY SFM pic on this site are all Fan art stuff and headhacking

As I mentioned above there is an intent to change this (and the crediting that I see you've been doing is a part of that), though it is still up in the air as to where the line will be drawn in terms of sufficient changes to make it a unique model.

Given this, I could set the works in question hidden if you wish, for you to republish later if they end up meeting the revised policy when it is published, rather than have them be deleted by you as they are now.
WolfgerLynel

So I'll just repost them with the same given credit info i had and it would be fine?
GreenReaper

We can see deleted work and restore it within 90 days. I was offering to do that and set it hidden, and note that I've done this so you don't get any heat for them being there. Whether they can be republished by you later will depend on the details of the policy once released, I was just hoping to save the +favs/comments for you if that is the case.
WolfgerLynel

i see. alright. see about restoring them then. let me know if anything comes up then.
the comments are a lost yes... but i wont be torn up about it
