I've been drinking coffee heavily for almost two decades now. I love coffee, but unfortunately the side effects are getting too annoying, so drastic measures have been instigated recently. I'll keep notes and logs of my process weekly in case someone happens to be in the same situation I'm in and is curious about other people's actions to deal with coffee
Brief history of my coffee consumption :
I've been drinking coffee starting around 18, maybe a little later
As far as I know I've been constantly drinking 5-6 mugs of instant coffee a day, from a huge mug (375 mL)
Only recently have I taken measures to lower coffee consumption. First I capped coffee at 4 times a day +6 months ago, then I switched to a smaller mug 4 months ago (300 mL), and more recently I've switched from instant to ground coffee, though this may have made it worse since I learned ground has more caffeine than instant
List of noticeable positive effects caused by caffeine :
Good mood
Small energy boost
Decent pain killer
List of noticeable side effects caused by caffeine personally :
Constant migraine like headache (Not painful but the feeling something is pushing from the inside of my head outside)
Easily startled by sudden noises and events (Caffeine makes it worse)
Acid reflux
Lack of motivation/energy around the evening
The main reason I want to stop/lower coffee is I've been feeling tired/unmotivated to do anything in the evening for years and it got worse for the past 6 months. This is likely due to capping my coffee to 4, and I was in constant withdrawal
Last Monday I've lowered my consumption from 4 to 3 every day. Withdrawal symptoms started the next day, and got worse by Wednesday. It got better starting Thursday
List of withdrawal symptoms :
Intense pain sensitivity (Should have been muscle pain from what I've read)
Cloudy mind, inability to focus properly
Awful mood
Extreme fatigue
Benefits observed after one week of lowering coffee consumption :
Feeling less tired at the end of the work week
Easier and earlier time to feel tired at the end of the day
Sleep quality is improved, mainly deep sleep lasting longer (35% longer)
The plan for next week is to go from 3 to 2 1/2 coffees until I only drink one coffee a day. If the fatigue in the evening remains, I will cut to zero
