End of the road for IB

So Inkbunny and their glorious infinite wisdom have deemed 3D art to be intrusive and that it's all just "screenshots" so if you make a render or an animation that took ya several hours or even days congrats all you did was take a screenshot and are now gonna be slapped with a warning and have your stuff deleted :3 thats not insulting at all to us 3D artists btw :D
But yeah reason for this is due to the possibility that someone else made a model or the texture of said model or anything to do with said model that YOU yourself didn't do therefore stealing said persons resources even though they allow AI art witch directly takes from other peoples artwork and content. So in hindsight they're saying not directly but in away that AI art is better than 3D render art....I'll let you all think on that for abit.

Maybe they plan to trash AI art next? That's the only thing I can imagine that'd make tolerating AI art and 3D art make sense.

They won't, saw on another journal about this and a mod was even defending the AI art so nah they'll defend AI art over 3D art

Wait.. I make 3D stuff.. What the hell?!

" I imported these models for Pokemon:SV, and rigged them for animation myself.. Which sucked. Getting these damn mice to work SUUUUUCKED but in the end, I made it.
Sounds to me like you did a lot of work and just as importantly gave credit for the bits that aren't your work. (Although it's not entirely clear whether you're crediting Scarlet and Violet directly, or someone who made a model based on them.)

The issue is when people go "oh, I'll take this model, and that model, and present it without credit for the people who did the models" at which point the assumption is it's your own work without anyone else's contribution.

That's standard sounds fairly reasonable. But it sounds like from the above journal that sub mods are going too far. I'm glad 3D art will still be allowed on here, but you may need to get the mods to lean more on the side of innocent or proven guilty.

The issue was that they were basically "guilty" under our original interpretation of the policy, but said policy didn't reflect the reality/subtlety of 3D art (people tend to reuse parts of models to make their own and then use them a lot in scenes), and it had not been enforced consistently - otherwise a lot of others would already have been impacted. As you say the initial communications were not ideal either.

FWIW if a model has been taken from a game it is still vulnerable copyright-wise and I can't guarantee the final policy we're working on will support that for legal reasons; it's best to look for alternatives if possible (even if that makes the result look a little different - that's kind of the point, really).

That makes sense. Copyright can be very ambiguous sometimes. And even if it technically qualifies under fair use, that won't stop companies from trying to sue, as long as I won't get to dismissed immediately. I don't envy the policymakers.

So you can send your 3D art picture into a img2img AI model and make it run a result, than post it as AI art.

It's a good idea except you need to include the original image for such works, which wouldn't then be a valid submission.

In practice it is impossible to tell it's a result of img2img.

Maybe! We do have experts now on staff who can be called in to try to verify. However it seems likely that a silhouette would have a similar effect and that is harder to prove,

I would never degrade myself or my artwork in that form of manner, I am highly against AI artwork

I 100% agree that what happened to you is stupid and should not have happened, and that the mods are dumb for doing that. But I wanted to bring up something from your AI point, In that I believe it to be a false comparison.

It's not like generative AI takes a bunch of pictures and photo batches them together. Instead, they take a bunch of images as a training set, corrupt them on varying levels from barely any different, to convert it into complete static, and the AI is tasked with decorrupting the image based on it's description, and so by the end it's able to turn random static into an image based on the prompt (over fifteen happens because when so many images are so close to being identical, Then the simplest way to "decorrupt" it would be to just learn to recreate the image exactly). Artworks are stolen when making the training set, and I believe this to be immoral, and should be made illegal, and should be opt in, not opt out, but it was still necessary to clarify this for the comparison. The point is that the AI learns how to associate specific words and phrases with specific patterns, and learns how to create those patterns (this is a vast oversimplification, the technology is very complicated).

Meanwhile: if someone uses a 3D model that someone else made for their work, then you just use that 3D model. You will probably have to reg it for animation, and posing and animating it takes a lot of skill effort and creative expression on its own, but it could be argued to be the 3D equivalent of photo bashing (which I believe itself to be a legitimate art form).

Non of this is to refute your conclusion, I actually agree it's hypocritical to allow AI art but not 3D art, as AI art takes inherently less effort, while being more limited in creative expression, in comparison to non generative 3D art. But I don't like bad arguments, even when they support a conclusion I agree with, and I felt your comparison was weak.

Thank you for your time.
