This is May 1st, which is the day of my birthday. I am now 71 years old.
Thinking back on my early years, there was the time I had my doubts I'd make it to 30 as reckless and wild as I lived during my early 20s. However, here I am today at 71 years old.
Congrats on making it, I hope you have many many more! I know that feeling, having turned 62 a few months ago, and like you, I had my doubts of making it this far but I continue on. I'm sure like me, your eyes and ears have witnessed a lot of history: political changes, evolution of technology, major social change - things the younger gens take for granted. And then there are those - friends and family we keep alive in our memories, for they did not made it as far as we did.
I wonder if you noticed patterns in these past years? People are dying young, between 25 to 40. It is not because of Covid or some other Virus like HIV did in the 80s and 90s. But because of Pot. The Pot of today is not the Pot of the 80s and 90s. I'm not a pot head, in fact I can't stand the stuff, but because it is used for recreation and medicinal reason, I really could not less what people do with it. But today's Pot is lab grown, chemicals added to it. It gives a "higher high" than old pot. But it also causing damage to the body. Many here could argue that I'm talking Ying Yang.and Excrement of Male Bovines.But I noticed that all these things have two commonalities: 1) Cause of Death: Pop Corn Lung and 2) they were all heavy pot smokers. Even the occasional user is having trouble breathing, and are labelled either "Asthmatic" or "Life Long Covid After Effects."

I have heard the pot now day is many times stronger than the pot back in the day.
The Wild things I did when I was young were taking reckless risks;
When I was a month away from turning age 16, a friend and I took turns racing a Honda three wheel ATV in the woods. It was the kind they no longer make because of them being so dangerous. One of the turns I took racing the Honda ATV, one of the back wheels hit a hole and it flipped at 25 mph, which messed up my right hip joint.
In my early 20s, when a creek became a raging torrent due to heavy rain storms, friends and I would take body surfing boards and ride the torrent. The creek wasn't more than about 3 or 4 feet deep. However, the rushing torrent was still dangerous, especially considering the risk of getting tangled in a tree limb being washed downstream.
One time, I shot some steel balls from wrist rocket slingshot from a distance away at a hornet's nest until I finally hit it. It was around dusk, and hornets generally don't fly at night. Although I did run from there, on a bad hip joint of course, to get away.
One time, three of us antagonized a rattlesnake with long sticks to see how mad we can get it to be. That snake had quite a temper. Fortunately, none of got bitten and the snake retreated and slithered away.
Friends and I would go car racing on lone highways at night.
One evening, I opened the throttle of my car on a lone straight away the ran for about 10 miles. My car was a 1975 Chevy Malibu station wagon, that had a 350 cubic inch V-8 that I had replaced the carburetor and intake manifold with a four barrel set up. The car was a three year old car at the time. The speedometer was a horizontal style that read up to 100. I had that station wagon going so fast, the needle went way past the 100 mph mark, then way past the clear plastic to where you couldn't see the needle any more.
When I was age 28, I had a 1977 Chevy Malibu 2 door. It was 5 years old and in pristine condition. One evening when I was out driving wild, I lost control of the car and totaled it. Of some trees my car bounced off of, one was a pine tree about the size of a power line pole that my car actually uprooted and knock down. I was very lucky in that crash. Miraculously, I was able to walk away from it without a scratch.
I use to smoke and drink back then too.
I toned down from the craziness after I had totaled that car...Although I did have a pet cougar, an actual mountain lion, when I was in my 30s and 40s.
