So lead admin GreenReaper has just spouted some transphobic nonsense, claiming that transgender people wanting their preferred pronouns to be used before a formal transition takes place is "misleading" or whatever. Ignoring the fact that this is a furry website where most people are represented by avatars of fantasy anthro creatures, this is just awful on so many levels. It reduces intersex people to an afterthought, it draws a weird arbitrary line on what makes a trans person valid, and it just outright conflates treats and gender as being one and the same. These are comments from someone who is clearly ignorant and not willing to listen, and doesn't even understand what gender identity means. It's foolish to make those kinds of comments while having little understanding of what he's talking about. No one is trying to literally claim they are the other sex like that. I also get the feeling he thinks that transition would inherently involve some kind of genital-based surgery, because HRT won't suddenly make someone's penis turn into a vagina. Surely under his criteria that kind of transition would still supposedly be misleading. Anyway the comments are dumb and I condemn them on every level.
Now I don't necessarily think this will affect the way Inkbunny is run. Transphobia is not allowed here and never has been. I am of course a lot more cautious now though, and will likely run from this place if there's any indication of transphobia being permitted here. Truthfully though this place largely operates without him, and will most likely continue to do so. He made similar comments over a decade ago, and while yes it's horrible he's had these views for all this time, there's also the fact that he's had these views for so long while Inkbunny has remained trans-friendly for that entire time. Basically I'm sticking around for now unless there's a clear intent to enable transphobia here.
One thing I will say though is that GreenReaper should no longer be lead admin/owner, and instead that designation should go to one of the other admins or even a mod. I learned about these comments from a Bluesky post that assumed that this means Inkbunny endorses transphobia, even though that's absolutely not the case. He makes this place look bad with those kinds of comments, and it's already difficult enough to advocate for this place without his "help" here. His actions are detrimental to this site, and therefore he must go.
