Years ago, someone told me about an awkward moment a British tourist had in a store on International Drive in the Orlando, Florida area. From what I was told, in the UK cigarettes are called fags, and they are available individually as well as they are in packs of 20. The British tourist who wanted to purchase one cigarette came into the store and said to the clerk, "I wish to purchase a fag". The store clerk was like, "What?!"
