AI Generated Art

So today I discovered an AI generator that had prompts with some of my digimon characters, one of which was almost perfectly generated to every detail. I find this to be extremely disgusting and disturbing that someone would be so disrespectful of my characters and artists and train an AI tool so much that it can almost with no mistakes perfectly generate one of my characters. This would have been done over the course of many months.

If you are reading this and you're one of them, fuck you and everything you stand for. I hope you have the shittiest life.

There is little I can do now about it, but I hope that if you suddenly start seeing my characters prop up with people I've never commissioned or worked with before that you will help remove the filth from the internet. I will not provide the engine that I found the prompts on because it doesn't deserve any more attention or which character it is but I doubt its the only engine that is so strongly trained across the internet. To be honest I almost want to delete everything I have of my digimon because of how disturbing this is for me. I am not a fan of AI art or the jobs it steals from artists. AI Art uploaders are not artists, they will never be artists. What they are, are thieves and fools. I will continue to block every AI fool on this site.

Sorry for the long rant but I thought I should just... post something about it. Please be careful if you see a piece from someone claiming to have my characters, if I'm not credited and it's not an artist I've worked with before, then it's likely not from me.

That fucking sucks, dude.

I would be absolutely livid as well if I found my characters used in such bullshit.

I would advise against deleting your stuff tho. That would just make their victory complete. Keep getting art of your digimon, spite them, tell them to go fuck themselves.

I know that's not much, but I hope you feel better about it soon. And let's hope together that AI crashes on its face sooner than later.

Thanks, I won't delete my stuff. Just wanted to put everyone who follows me on alert at the very least. The AI still has some imperfections which is good, but its scarily close to the real thing.

This is really awful. I fear this happening to me someday as well. I can't understand why those AI people would do such a thing. AI might be good in a few places, but stealing from actual people who worked hours on art just for other people to use them to train their AI feels frustrating. It really needs to get regulated quickly.

Yea, it is awful. I was really bothered when I found it. If they keep it private then I can live with it, but I just fear someone trying to take my digimon and call them their own.

Yes, that's a huge problem. It's even an issue that people make money by receiving commissions to make AI art. Some even selling it as having drawn those themselves. Not sure what we can really do about it. I'm trying to ignore it as best as I can and focus on my own art. I'm at least happy that there are still a lot of people who prefer real art.

I hope you'll be able to take down this person who had the audacity to make a model of one of your characters. This practice of taking a character from artists is becoming more and more common these days.

This is heartbreaking to know. Imagine my reaction when I found out this site allows AI art i just want to nuke everything but that ain't gonna change anything x.x I really hope this fandom would take it more seriously

You don't own Digimon. Sorry to break it to you.

"Someone stole my character that I stole from a corporation!"

Who said anything about owning Digimon? You also clearly do not know the definition of the word 'stole.' Fan characters have been a thing forever you douchebag, which Digimon as a corporation has encouraged since it's inception. No one is claiming to own Digimon here, but the idea of Yami and who he is is what belongs to me.

Maybe before you go trolling inkbunny posts maybe understand the context or maybe you like AI art, I don't much give a shit.

Troll? Trolls just wanna make others upset. No. Fan characters can't be copyrighted or really claimed.

You didn't ask Digimon position to draw your character based on theirs and AI creators are going to exist and make fanart. You can't stop it.

I've dabbled in AI and my best friend is disabled and she loves AI as she can bring her visions to life despite her shaking hands.

So before you demonize an entire tool, maybe realize that this isn't personal and it's not worth getting upset about. There's actual problems in the world, especially if you're in the US.

I won't argue with you about fan characters. I know enough about copyright law to know that if it's too close to the original design or uses someone else, in this case Digimon as a base, I cannot claim it as my property. If it's tweaked enough to be its own thing though you can absolutely claim it as your own being inspired from an original thing. I admit, some of my characters do not meet that threshold... nothing a little changing wouldn't fix if Digimon for example compelled me to. I won't need to though because Digimon allows for fans to create their own characters and sell their own merchandise based off of the Digimon franchise. It has been a thing in Japan since the early 2000s. So by all accounts, they allow us to have fan characters so their permission has been freely given for decades.

Thus the idea and story behind my characters and the world I created for them is very much mine. Still you're right, it cannot be stopped. Nothing I can do about it except ask my friends and followers to be careful with what they see.

AI Art is still theft, that you and your friend are actively engaged in. Stealing the art of hard working, impoverished artists. These artists who can barely make ends meat in todays day and age. I'm sorry to hear about your friend but that doesn't change the fact it's stealing. AI does have its uses, art should never be one of them especially if it hurts an already struggling market.

Maybe you shouldn't defend something that is an actual problem and support artists who actually need the work. I'll give you some credit though, at least you're not pretending the people who use AI engines are actually artists.
