More folks accounts dissapearing and paypal bans!

To my fellow artists who watch my page, keep your head on a swivel. An artist I like (GR_Art), just lost they're paypal. Seems Paypal took the time and actually visited the artists Fanbox page and wasn't happy with what they saw. Alos looked up some other artists on SubscribStar today and they're pages are gone as well.

That said, make sure your paypal links to your adult content are nowhere on your page, watch what and where you post, etc.

As for me, Thinking of editing my SubStar and other paid account to donation only and doing all pieces and posts here and on baraag. Would take some time to set up, but just an idea.

I noticed the same thing.

Some artists who I watched because I like their drawings and characters aren't here anymore.

Have the same problem, my subscription to a artist I watch was canceled without warning and all subscriptions to the artist are Marked as "temporary disabled"

Paypal needs to mind its business and stay in their fucking lane

PayPal isn’t the sole problem here. Credit card companies have been known to push services like PayPal to block NSFW content or risk getting blocked by the credit card company. Essentially “block this type of content or none of our users will be allowed to send you money”.

That said I’m positive that PayPal isn’t innocent in all this. I’m sure they block this content because they want to and because they think it will make them look more professional. Risk of getting blocked is just a convenient excuse. It’s an excuse.

Just know that the reason there aren’t any safe payment solutions is largely in part to credit card companies.

I think I heard that credit card companies are getting backlash for trying to control people but i would need to look into it.

I heard that too. Specifically some country (I forget which) is pushing back.

Gotta love Paypal actively shooting itself in the foot for no reason. If the alternatives were less sketchy, I'd use them.

Its becoming a more and more hostile environment for artists these days. Don't be surprised if we all quit.

There must be something more to this.
It's highly unlikely that PP staff just randomly goes to a persons account and reviews their sources of income. There are probably millions of individual users on it, not to mention smaller and larger companies that use PP daily, so their staff does have much bigger reports, disputes and scams to deal with.
You're sewing panic, "PP banned this one guy, that means they're purging everyone" style. Maybe the artist got into a brawl with an sociopathic commissioner and got reported? You never know.

Anyhow, linking your PP directly to your "questionably legal" content page shows a lack of self-preservation foresight. If you don't really have a choice, example linking Patreon payouts with PP, then at least do the sane thing of locking content to paying users only (moot point from me, as Patreon rules do force you to paywall all +18 content) and cut the threads linking back to your public galleries, where anyone can see them.

Time to switch to cryptos then? Something like USDT doens't care about your sources of income :)

Private currencies maybe technically safer, but the need to constantly cashing out because of their sonic volatility is a kinda no lesser hassle. Guess it is now way better between the two evils.
They are always so openly against cryptos, yet actively pushing people into it.

Volatility? 1 USDT seems to be more or less equal to one USD.

Hmm. You got me looking at Nexo. From what I can see, tether (USDT) is very stable and has never been less than $0.99 in worth. Also, Nexo allows you to earn 16% interest on your tether and they give you a debit card linked to your tether portfolio so you don't have to exchange it to spend it. This makes USDT seem nice and a very real possibility as a good replacement for PayPal. If every artist on this site were to start using Nexo, PayPal would become obsolete and it doesn't seem like there would be much of a difference.

Nevermind, Nexo pulled out of the US.

I can't endorse any particular companies really. Folks should do their own research. There are more or less legit crypto card services out there. Which are good for small art payments but probably not as a source of investment or to keep your money in.

I mean when original "value" changes in crazy spikes, increasing about 20 times in just 10 years. It is not a "bank" or "investment", by its very design, despite many treating it like that. it is designed only to work as private peer to peer transactions.
I remember watching Etika loosing like 5k$ on Bitcoin during some Sonic Mania stream.

Dang, might need to make a list so we know what artists lost their accounts and possibly see what alternative ways we can help them financially then; if that’s possible at all?

Paypal, SS are banning pretty much all adult content.  FA, Bluesky are banning anything cub, loli, shota, and hitting a lot of ABDL, furry, and AI art as well.

This is all well known for months now, so it really amazes me everyone's so surprised.

They're up to this again? Yeah, five(?) years ago, maybe more, the warning came out to make sure there's no links between your PayPal and any adult content you're producing or even consuming, and that commissioners should _not_ give a detailed description of any adult commission they're paying you for.

I do wish websites would use something other than PayPal or Visa/Mastercard (these two might as well be one for how much they collude), pin based debit or maybe another payment system (what is out there any more as PayPal also owns Venmo?). Or maybe another player could start offering some manner of credit that could be used, like Synchrony Bank.

Honestly I think banktivism should be illegal.  They get tons of money from the fed, they shouldn't be allowed to arbitrarily decide who can do what with their own money.
